Chapter 189: Is It Strange for a Middle-Aged Man to Like Peppa Pig?
Why would the Perverted Bicycle Hero join the Riddler? That was what happened after Ma Ma Zhaodi left the police station.
To be precise, it was the afternoon of the very day he left the police station.
"Come on, I'm not a pervert like the Joker. I just hope fewer people die on the battlefield, and I also hope to survive myself. The night before last, the Joker was actually the one who ambushed you; I just got everyone sent to the hospital."
Standing before the Riddler, the Perverted Bicycle Hero, wearing a mask and a black robe, spread his hands: "Strictly speaking, I turned a small game that was about to be lost into a draw. You should thank me."
The Riddler, leaning on a golden cane shaped like a question mark, dressed in a green suit and a top hat, listened calmly to the Perverted Bicycle Hero's defense. On his two sides, super-villains like Killer Croc, Clayface, Two-Face, and Poison Ivy surrounded him like stars orbiting the moon. None of these super-villains were pushovers; at this moment, they were all eyeing the Perverted Bicycle Hero in the center of the hall, their gazes either provocative, questioning, or full of aggression.
"You are very smart, my friend," the Riddler replied leisurely. "Very smart, much smarter than most who join only after the war begins. But the problem is, we know nothing about you, do we?"
"You know, I like riddles, but I don't like boring, rotten riddles. Like you—suddenly appearing like a ghost, with no clues, no hints, no beginning or end. Do you know what that reminds me of?"
"What?"
"It reminds me of an idiot who also had no clues, no hints, no beginning or end, and whom I have met four times. To be precise, it should be three times. Just those three times really taught me two lessons."
As he spoke, the corners of the Riddler's mouth curled up slightly: "I finally understand why people say that a genius's carefully laid plans sometimes can't compare to an idiot's sudden inspiration. But then again, an idiot might win one round by luck, but will lose ninety-nine rounds by intelligence. Look, hasn't he just delivered himself to my doorstep?"
As soon as the words fell, Two-Face, wearing a half-red, half-green suit, stepped out from the side, his pistol pointed directly at the Perverted Bicycle Hero's head.
Ma Ma Zhaodi looked at the Harvey of this world. Half of his body's skin had completely vanished, revealing a gruesome blood-red color. The muscles and part of the bones on his face were directly exposed to the air, looking extremely terrifying. Even half of his hair had turned white, completely devoid of vitality.
Yes, this was what Harvey would have originally become.
Ma Ma Zhaodi looked at his face and sighed softly in his heart.
Ding—
Two-Face flipped a coin in his hand; one side was scorched, the other intact.
The coin fell into his palm, but he didn't look at it. Instead, he clenched his fist, looked at Ma Ma Zhaodi, and asked in a hoarse voice: "Guess, which side is facing up?"
Poison Ivy's vines slowly grew, Killer Croc opened his blood-filled maw, Clayface's hand transformed into a large hammer, Firefly's hand rested on his flamethrower, and Scarecrow opened his sleeves. The scene was extremely tense; with a single order from the Riddler, Ma Ma Zhaodi would face an assault from a group of super-villains.
"What gibberish are you spouting?" Ma Ma Zhaodi shook his head. "I don't understand. Do you actually want to hire me or not? Otherwise, I'll just go ask the Joker. At least he even hires third-rate villains like the Clue Master, so the threshold is lower."
The corner of the Riddler's eye twitched. He was somewhat triggered by Ma Ma Zhaodi's answer. Hearing that sentence, he recalled that not-so-wonderful day again.
"Alright." He slowly paced forward, his tone turning cold: "I might as well make things clearer. This morning, Ma Ma Zhaodi, a police officer from the Gotham City Police Department, resigned from there. Someone saw him leave the hospital and directly board a train to Metropolis. But this guy has faced both me and the Joker and survived. Can someone like that be so easily scared away by just one police station explosion?"
"What nonsense are you talking? That was an explosion, not a game of make-believe. The Gotham City Police Department was leveled."
The Riddler ignored him and continued talking on his own: "Coincidentally, the street vigilante known as the Perverted Bicycle Hero also appeared only after Ma Ma Zhaodi came to Gotham. If you say there is no connection between the two, that would be too much of an insult to my intelligence."
"So what does this have to do with me?"
"Stop messing around, Mr. Ma Ma Zhaodi."
The Riddler replied coldly: "Take off the mask. At this point, what's the point of playing dumb?"
At this moment, Two-Face, standing nearby, simply reached out and pulled the mask off the Perverted Bicycle Hero's face.
Hiss—
The sound of a sharp intake of breath rang out. Everyone clearly saw that under the Perverted Bicycle Hero's mask was—
Another mask.
A pink one, shaped like a hairdryer. If not for the ears and mouth, almost no one could tell it was a little pig.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
The Riddler could no longer hold back. This bizarre and stupid comedic atmosphere reminded him again of that terrible day, when an idiot had dragged him down to the same level, making him look like a slapstick clown on stage.
He angrily tore off that Peppa Pig mask, revealing the middle-aged uncle's face underneath.
For a moment, everyone present, including the Riddler, froze.
"What are you looking at?" the bearded uncle asked. "Can't a man in his thirties like Peppa Pig? What's wrong with you? Men remain boys until they die, do you understand?"
Silence.
The entire scene was suffocatingly silent, to the point where the sound of a needle dropping could be heard. Ever since the number of super-villains here increased, this was the first time there had been complete silence from everyone. Usually, everyone was busy provoking and teasing each other—you stab me to test my super-healing ability; I shoot you to test your top-tier reflexes. The scene could be described as a chaotic dance of demons and a night parade of a hundred ghosts.
Two-Face turned his head to look at the Riddler beside him. Although he said nothing, it was as if he had said everything.
The Riddler's expression gradually twisted.
"Check his face! I want to see how many faces he has! I want to see if he's in disguise!"
So, a moment later, the Perverted Bicycle Hero rubbed his face, which had been pinched red and even torn until it bled, and stood up his beer belly to pick up his cloak.
"Damn it, if you're going to check, just check. Why did you pull my cloak? I just wanted to hide my beer belly. What did I do wrong?"
The Riddler's face shifted between gloom and anger. He suddenly asked: "What is your name?"
"The Perverted Bicycle Hero."
"Real name."
"Oakholic Thor."
"Drunkard Thunder God?" Poison Ivy raised an eyebrow. "A beer-bellied, alcoholic Thunder God? Why would you choose such a name?"
"My ancestors were the true Black Flags of Gotham, with pure bloodline. Don't question me."
The Perverted Bicycle Hero put his equipment back on and then looked at the Riddler.
"So, did I get hired or not? Give me a straight answer."
