Chapter 328: Barry Fainted Again (Happy Children's Day, Friends)
"Uh, Mr. Steiger?"
When Steiger and his security chief declined invitations to interact from those around them and hurried together toward the venue exit, a female voice suddenly came from nearby.
He turned his head and saw a young girl with blonde hair and blue eyes speaking to him; her manner and speech were quite polite, and she sounded like a student: "Mr. Steiger, I would like to ask, could you guide my thesis?"
Steiger glanced up and down, not even pausing his steps—the other party's attire looked utterly ordinary, neither stunning nor revealing, seeming genuinely interested in thesis guidance—so he had no interest.
For one, he lacked the level of guidance; for another, he had no interest in wasting time.
Iris's young and beautiful appearance did stir a slight interest in him, but on second thought, for someone of his wealth, a large crowd already flattered and courted him openly and secretly, including women of outstanding looks and various identities and ages; his private life had always been colorful, and the endings were always paying them off and kicking them out, clean and swift.
This female student before him did not look like someone easy to dismiss.
"Sorry, Young Lady."
He waved his hand casually, dismissing the other's inquiry, and walked out of the safety passage with the security chief.
"Fine." Iris sighed, and only then did she and Barry beside her realize that this big entrepreneur did not seem like an approachable type: "Since you have no time, I will freely elaborate on your speech in my thesis myself."
Although Iris's idea was clever, in a few more days she would discover that plans never keep up with changes; her thesis would most likely have to replace Steiger's name directly.
And coincidentally, just half a minute after Steiger left Steiger Tower by car, Denton rushed toward the venue with a gun.
Five clones plus one original body, six people entered six escape passages, and when he quietly observed the venue situation at an unnoticed entrance, he was surprised to find he could not find a trace of Steiger.
"Strange, where did the person go?"
He confirmed again and again but still could not find Steiger; raising his wrist to check his watch, it was now just before three oh nine.
Denton was an employee of Steiger Industries; he knew Steiger's habits well. That old thing always liked mingling with the upper class; he would not leave so early, so he must be either in the crowd or in the restroom.
With this thought, Denton immediately drew his pistol, preparing to enter and rob—once Steiger appeared, he would directly pretend to be an emotionally charged robber and shoot the other party right between the eyes.
However, a sound suddenly came from his phone—a call had automatically connected for no reason.
"Damn! Damn! Damn!"
Denton cursed angrily in his heart; the robbery at the gun shop in the morning had gone wrong once, but at least there were no consequences; if something went wrong at this critical moment, Steiger would escape.
However, the voice coming from the phone was Elizabeth's, which made Denton hesitate in his action to hang up.
"Don't go, Denton." The familiar female voice rang out on the phone: "Steiger has already left."
This sentence exploded in Denton's mind like a bolt from the blue; in that instant, many things came to his mind.
"Did Elizabeth lie to me?"
"Does she know what I did?"
"Why does she know Steiger left?"
The most familiar person beside one's pillow suddenly turned into a fog, even knowing everything about oneself; this contrast made Denton's spine chill and goosebumps rise all over his body—fortunately, Elizabeth's voice continued speaking, interrupting his wild thoughts.
"Don't be puzzled; I am not Elizabeth. I just hacked your phone and am speaking to you with a voice changer."
Hearing this, Denton carefully looked at the caller ID; the name on it was indeed not Elizabeth, but the four characters "Unknown Number."
"Then who are you, what do you want?" "I want to remind you that there is no need to act today; retreat early to avoid unnecessarily taking on another charge."
"You know I am going after Steiger?"
"Of course I know; if you did not plan to go after Steiger, I would not have approached you."
Hearing this sentence, Denton frowned; he somewhat guessed the other party's meaning.
"You want to use me to deal with him?"
"Wrong; we originally wanted to deal with him; you just happened to be able to help us, so we found you."
"'We'?"
"Simple initial data has been uploaded to your phone; you will know once you look yourself—now, retreat immediately."
Beep—beep
The call was hung up.
Denton was half-believing, half-doubting; he looked carefully at the venue interior one last time; it was now three twelve, and Steiger's figure indeed still had not appeared inside the venue.
He dialed another number on his phone, but a continuous busy tone came from the other end; all this was telling him it was time to retreat.
"Damn." He gritted his teeth and engaged the safety on his pistol.
Unfortunately, he had already delayed too long at the entrance.
"Hey! You over there! Who are you! What do you want!"
A security guard inside the venue happened to arrive at the entrance; he discovered Denton holding a gun and wearing a head covering, and naturally warned the other party loudly while reaching out to draw his own gun.
Denton cursed inwardly about bad luck, slammed the door shut with a reverse motion, and at the same time, the five clones and the original body synchronized their movements immediately, all sprinting toward the back door.
"What's going on?"
Barry inside the venue turned his head to look back; he saw the security guard pull the door open and chase out, immediately sensed something was happening, and thus instantly transformed into a bolt of lightning and ran out after him.
His speed was much faster than the security guard's; in the blink of an eye, Barry had reached the back alley and saw the six men in black clothes and head coverings getting into a car—then his legs went soft, and he collapsed against the nearby wall.
"What is happening to me?"
Barry had no time to think carefully before he felt his eyes go black and his brain quickly lost consciousness.
At this moment, an opening appeared in the nearby wall; Ma Ma Zhaodi's head and a cat's head poked out from inside sneakily.
"Boss, he seems to have fainted, meow? Should I still jump out and knock on his knees, meow?"
"No need; the onset was truly timely." Ma Ma Zhaodi thought: "Pity; I originally wanted to see if the cat's speed is seven times that of humans."
He took the chocolate liqueur from Barry's arms, casually stuffed it into his mouth, then turned back, peeled off the wallpaper, and disappeared into the back alley with the cat and San San Bengzi.
Inside the van at this moment, Denton looked in the rearview mirror, discovered the security guard was not chasing, then allowed one clone to drive while he opened the new file that suddenly appeared on his phone.
