Chapter 3443: Getting Cold Feet

This afternoon, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Liu Xuemei finished visiting the Jinhua Group in the city, and there was a small economic seminar in the Jinhua Group conference room. At six o'clock in the evening, she had to rush back to the Municipal Party Committee Reception House No. 1. The provincial economic indicator assessment team had already arrived in Xijing City, and there was a reception needed in the evening. The assessment team was led by Li Changping, Deputy Minister of the Provincial Party Committee Organization Department, and members included those from the Provincial Planning Commission, the Provincial Economic Commission, the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, and the Provincial Assessment Office—all powerful departments. Liu Xuemei had to meet with the leaders of these powerful departments who were assessing Xijing City. The evening was set at the Municipal Reception House No. 1.

This afternoon, Liu Xuemei received a call from Zhu Xiangli, Chairwoman of the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions.

Xijing Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Liu Xuemei said on the phone, "Since Chairwoman Zhu of the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions has spoken, how could I dare not comply? At nine o'clock tonight, have them come to my home to find me."

After finishing the call with Zhu Xiangli, the Secretary-General of the Municipal Party Committee walked in and reported to Liu Xuemei, "Secretary Liu, the banquet to welcome the provincial economic assessment team is set at the Municipal Reception House No. 1, starting at six o'clock in the evening. Do you have any other instructions?"

Liu Xuemei was around fifty years old, with a dignified appearance. Despite her age, because she took good care of herself, she looked only about forty. She had a light perm, and although her face was relatively large, her features were regular, making her look delicate and pretty, like the typical face of a theatrical actress. In fact, Liu Xuemei came from a background of acting; in her early years, she was a pillar of the provincial drama troupe. After being noticed by the son of the then-Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, she married into a high-ranking cadre family, and her official career went smoothly from the head of the provincial drama troupe to the Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Culture, then to Deputy Mayor of Xijing City, and then Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee.

However, Liu Xuemei also had regrets in life: the year before last, her husband unfortunately suffered a cerebral thrombosis. Although he luckily saved his life, he was left hemiplegic, and even eating and dressing required someone to take care of him. With family misfortune, Liu Xuemei poured all her enthusiasm into her work, becoming a typical workaholic.

Liu Xuemei said to the Secretary-General, "Let's do this: follow the usual practice. Go and purchase our Xijing City brand local specialties—Xijing Donkey-hide Gelatin. Give each member of the assessment team two boxes of Xijing Donkey-hide Gelatin, a brand-name water cup, and a bag of high-grade tea. After the banquet, have them delivered to their rooms. For the team leader and the three deputy team leaders, add a Casio watch for each." ===== CHAPTER 3444 =====
