Chapter 18: Chapter Eighteen: My Wife Won't Allow It
The last time he heard someone call her a trash-picker, he didn't say a word in her defense; instead, he publicly put a green hat on her.
In his eyes, she's probably just a poor trash-picker; otherwise, he wouldn't have married her just to pay for her grandmother's surgery.
She now imagines Gu Die being intimate with another woman.
The soup she was drinking instantly lost its fragrance.
How can she not stand seeing him with someone else?
Anyway, she's already acted as the Young Mistress once today, so she's throwing caution to the wind.
She opened the door to that bedroom and saw a woman lying in Gu Die's arms, so angry she didn't know what to say.
"Young Master Gu, who is this?" the woman sat up, glanced at Liuli, then lay back in his arms.
He wasn't even wearing a shirt as he held that woman! That woman wore only a strapless dress!!
Gu Die didn't answer.
"She couldn't possibly be that trash-picker Chu Liuli, could she?"
"It's me. Do you have any objections?" she said coldly.
"No objections, but Gu Die said you're boring, so he came to find me."
The woman said smugly.
"Did he tell you that?"
"If you were interested, would Young Master Gu still come looking for me? Right, Young Master Gu?"
Instead, she acted coquettish in his arms.
"Even if I'm not interested, he's still my husband—while I'm still willing to talk, get lost."
Upon hearing Liuli's words, the woman flew into a rage and sat up, her clothes still not properly on.
Gu Die, upon hearing that, was somewhat pleased, but pretended to be aloof.
"Young Master Gu, quickly rein her in!" the woman again acted coquettish toward him.
"Husband, are you choosing me or this woman?"
"It's just acting coquettish—she can do that too!!"
Gu Die was dumbfounded—she called him husband?!
"Hey! You!"
The woman was practically hopping mad, but in front of Young Master Gu she couldn't lose her temper, so she could only act coquettish toward Gu Die.
But Gu Die paid no attention at all.
"Is it really that hard to choose?" Liuli thought.
"Do whatever you want; I'm going to sleep." Seeing Gu Die remain silent for so long, she also didn't want to wait.
Finally reaching the room, she thought about how she had just acted coquettish with him and even deliberately called him husband, and she felt like vomiting.
She, Chu Liuli, still wants to act coquettish?!
Suddenly, she felt a warm sensation behind her back.
Her waist was encircled by slender arms.
"Young Master Gu!" the woman shouted upon seeing them embracing in the room.
Gu Die didn't want anyone to disturb them, so he backhandedly shut the door.
He buried his head in her shoulder, inhaling her scent.
"You..." she didn't know what to say.
"What's wrong?"
"You're not with that woman..."
"My wife won't allow it."
She hadn't finished speaking when he replied, the corners of his mouth turning up.
"I was just saying that offhand."
"Then I'll go fetch her back?"
"You're not allowed to go!"
Just thinking about him being with another woman again made her emotions flare.
"If you call me husband one more time, I won't go."
He kissed her face, then kissed her hair.
"How about we do it tomorrow?" she whispered.
"Chu Liuli."
As soon as he said her name, she knew nothing good was coming.
"Then I'm leaving." He let go of her.
"Husband, don't go." She flung herself into his arms again.
"I'm not leaving." He laughed.
"You can't hug any other woman from now on."
She lifted her head; his deep eyes were filled only with her.
"Okay."
Hearing his promise, she laughed.
He also laughed; Liuli had never seen him smile like this before—it was like sunshine.
He kissed her lips, the motion gentle and slow.
She liked this kind of kiss.
At night, she slept in his arms, and for the first time she felt how warm his embrace was.
His body temperature was just right, neither cold nor hot.
These past few days she had been preparing for the final exams, and Gu Die was also busy.
He didn't need to take the exam and could directly move up a grade.
Sometimes she also thought, having money is great!
Every morning and evening a dedicated driver picked her up and dropped her off.
She originally wanted to sleep in the dormitory, but Gu Die wouldn't allow it.
Studying was tiring, and she still had to go chat with her grandmother each day, so whenever he finished his business and returned, she was already asleep.
The two of them basically had no extra time to communicate.
Soon the exam ended, and the nerves she had been tensing for days finally relaxed.
Now they were just waiting for the exam results, unsure whether her having missed school several times after marrying into the Gu Family would affect her scholarship.
"Liuli, how did the exam go?"
Yu Ke saw Liuli come out of the exam hall, seeming lost in thought, so he patted her shoulder, and she snapped back to attention.
"Not bad, how about you?"
"Me? Just so-so, you know me—if I had half your grades, my parents would be over the moon."
Yu Ke said exaggeratedly.
"To let your uncle and aunt feel the joy of flying high, you really need to work hard!"
Liuli linked arms with her and teased.
"Then why don't you give me half of your brain?"
"Come and take it!"
Cheng Li saw the two of them from afar, chatting so happily, and felt a twinge of jealousy.
Before, besides him Cheng Li, Chu Liuli had no one else by her side!
Now there's an extra nuisance.
"What are you talking about?"
Cheng Li approached, looking somewhat unhappy.
"Cheng Li, how did you do today?"
"I think I did well; this exam was too easy." Cheng Li said, "And don't even look at which teacher taught me!"
Cheng Li's studies weren't good; whenever he had time, Liuli would teach him, but he basically made no progress.
"Such a good teacher? I've taught you for years, and you still haven't made any progress!"
Liuli recalled how, when she used to teach him, he was always inattentive, just thinking about it made her angry.
"That teacher, you should think more about your own problems!" Cheng Li said angrily, "Since you met her, you've been stuck to her! When do you have time to teach me?"
"Cheng Li, this isn't just a matter of these past few days; it's clearly that you don't listen carefully, making my efforts wasted!"
Liuli grabbed Cheng Li's ear and wouldn't let go, making him yell in pain.
"Serves you right!"
Yu Ke laughed, making a mischievous face at Cheng Li.
"You!"
Cheng Li was so angry he couldn't speak.
Before even leaving the school gate, she saw the Gu Family's car, with Chen Bo driving and Gu Die inside.
Seeing Gu Die's cold face, she hurriedly let go of Cheng Li.
"I'm leaving first." Liuli waved at Cheng Li and Yu Ke, then tossed them aside and ran.
She just left them like that? Cheng Li grew angrier the more he thought about it—formerly Chu Liuli wouldn't have done that.
"What a guy who forgets his friends at the sight of beauty!"
Yu Ke said discontentedly.
"Exactly!" Cheng Li chimed in, and the two happily slapped palms.
"How do you have time to come today?"
As soon as she got in the car, Liuli asked, feeling happy that he had come to pick her up, but Gu Die ignored her.
"I was just messing around with Cheng Li!" she said, seeing his sullen face.
"Cheng Li and I are just ordinary friends; to me he's both a friend and a benefactor."
She continued explaining, afraid he might get jealous.
This was her explaining to him, something she had never done before regarding her relationship with Cheng Li.
He pulled her into his arms in one motion.
"Not angry anymore?"
She asked, listening to his heartbeat, as if the whole world she could only feel him.
"I'm the one who can't bear to be angry with you."
He whispered softly in her ear, and she laughed happily.
Chen Bo hearing these words and tone coming from his young master's mouth could hardly believe it.
He had never seen the young master treat anyone like this.
Gu Die knew that the Gu Family, including those around him, had many of Gu Qing's spies, specifically watching to see which woman he treated differently.
But Chen Bo and Lín āyí were the ones he trusted most; they treated him like their own child, having watched him grow up.
So Gu Die didn't pretend anything in front of Chen Bo and Lín āyí.
He was already tired from pretending every day in front of others.
Chen Bo and Lín āyí were also the people who understood him most in this family, and the only ones he trusted most in this family were just these two.
Now he had her in his arms.
As the car passed the alley where she used to live, she couldn't help but press her face to the window and look, seeing the barbecue stall at the alley entrance.
That place was also a place that made her happy.
Sometimes she wanted to eat but had no money, and she also felt embarrassed to let Cheng Li treat her each time, so when she passed by she would just glance twice.
But the boss saw that she wanted to eat and directly pulled her into the shop to eat for free.
The boss was a kind-hearted person; knowing her situation and seeing her pitiful state, he helped her, and she repaid his kindness by coming to help clean after school when she had time.
Seeing her pressing her face to the window, longing to see, he had Chen Bo turn the car around.
How did he turn around? She was still wondering why when the car stopped at the alley entrance.
"Do you want to go back and have a look?"
"Grandma is in the Yīyuàn, there's nothing to see." she replied.
"I just want to..."
She wanted to eat the barbecue here, but she hesitated to speak, for he was Young Master Gù, and she feared he would disdain such a small place.
"What do you want to do?" he asked patiently.
"I want to eat the barbecue here."
After she said that, she waited for his reaction.
"Get out of the car."
She hadn't expected him to agree?!
She ran happily to the barbecue stall.
"Uncle!"
"Liuli, you're here. What do you want to eat?"
A chubby man in his sixties saw Liuli come and happily greeted her; although he was in his sixties, you couldn't tell at all.
"Just like before."
"Okay."
She found a table, sat down, and called Gu Die and Chen Bo over.
Chen Bo was tactful, not treating them as light bulbs, so he waited in the car.
"Have a seat."
She moved a stool for him.
She thought he would disdain it, but he didn't, and sat down directly.
She laughed happily, and he reached out to pat his head.
He was actually not used to such a place, but seeing her happy expression, he wanted to slowly integrate into her life circle.
"Liuli, why are you always coming with Cheng Li today?"
Uncle brought over the fragrant barbecue.
"He doesn't have time today." She casually made an excuse to get past it, cautiously looking at him.
It's still best not to mention Cheng Li in front of him.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Uncle couldn't help but ask.
"We're married." Before she could answer, he spoke up.
