Chapter 1027 - 1035: Leave It to Me
But now, Hibiscus Wood couldn’t figure out why, with Jane Sampson being so exploitable to Mona Calm, Mona could still harbor such malicious intentions towards Jane.
If something happened to Jane, or if she died, it should be equivalent to Mona losing an enormous and useful contact, indirectly losing a strong backing.
However, although there were many questions she couldn’t comprehend, Hibiscus Wood had no intention of asking Jane what she had found out about Mona.
But in any case, a person can pretend and put on an act, but they can’t always be so convincing. A careful investigation into Mona’s past would inevitably reveal traces that expose her character.
Hibiscus Wood knew clearly that Jane was a broad-minded person, but certainly not a fool.
After all, a fool couldn’t make it into the circle so quickly and have everyone like her.
And a fool wouldn’t be able to turn situations around just by posting a tweet each time she faced an issue.
"Some people look like earthworms, but in reality, they are venomous snakes," Hibiscus said, then closed her eyes and leaned back in her chair again.
She had said what she needed and could say.
The frustration in her heart also eased.
It was a relief that Jane had already learned the truth. She didn’t have to keep this secret to herself every day, tightly bottled up inside.
Jane didn’t even know how she managed to get back to her seat along the way.
The answer was truly shocking.
After returning to her seat, Jane took out her mobile phone with trembling hands and called James Black.
When James picked up the phone, Jane’s voice was full of sorrow as she said, "James, that day in the mountain village, the person who pushed me, it really was Mona."
Jane’s one sentence made Coco Edwards drop the chrysanthemum tea she was holding.
James’s heart clenched at the sound of Jane’s grievously hurt tone, "Are you very upset?"
"A little," Jane said pitifully. "She and Mair Williams were the only two friends I made since entering the circle. And I, I treated her so much better than I did Mair. Whenever I had resources at hand, she was the first one I thought of. I helped her, was good to her, but I never expected her to treat me this way."
"Leave the rest to me?" James asked.
Jane’s gaze shifted to Mona, who was looking at her from a distance, and after a few seconds, she gently shook her head.
"Okay." Jane didn’t ask James what he planned to do with Mona, but Jane didn’t want to say another word in Mona’s defense anymore.
Then, Jane added another sentence, "I don’t want to see her inside this crew anymore, not even for one second."
"From now on, you won’t see her in this circle anymore," James assured her. "If you’re feeling upset, have Coco Edwards talk to you for a while, or you could take a couple of days off, come to the guard team, and I’ll keep you company."
"No way," Jane immediately retorted. "If I go there, you’ll gobble me up!"
James on the phone was taken aback for a moment before he chuckled, "I won’t eat you."
"I don’t believe that. I just had a dream where you swallowed me in one gulp," Jane touched her nose and then recounted the dream she had that night to James.
James didn’t offer any explanation after hearing it.
After all, he indeed was always thinking about how he could have a few more nibbles of his delicious wife.
"Don’t worry, I’m not that fragile. I just need to feel sad for a bit, and I still have to film this afternoon. I can’t let this kind of thing affect my work. In the future, I’m going to be a big star." Jane, worried James might be too concerned about her, soon hurried to reassure him that she was not too upset over this matter.
