Chapter 1060 - 1068 Must Go

~3 min read 600 words

Since James Black returned a bit late and the two of them lounged in the bedroom for a while, Jane Sampson made a simple meal for lunch.

James didn’t find watching her cook boring at all; he stood in the kitchen the whole time, only taking the initiative to serve the meal once it was ready.

"Should we invite Peter Gingery for dinner tonight?" Jane asked casually, taking the tableware from James’s hands after she sat down.

"No need," James refused without a second thought.

Why should he invite a third wheel to dinner with his wife?

It’s not like the dormitory lights weren’t bright enough.

Jane hummed in acknowledgement, took a bite of her noodles, then asked, "What’s the plan for this afternoon?"

"After eating, we’ll take a lunch break. At 2:30, I’ll take you to the shooting range," James looked up at Jane as he spoke and bluntly criticized, "Your marksmanship is terrible."

Jane choked, nearly succumbing to her noodles.

"Can I refuse?" Jane turned and looked at James with big, pleading eyes. "I’ve already given up on my marksmanship, and you’re still trying to save it?"

Honestly, Jane had a thousand reasons for not wanting to go to the shooting range. With her shooting skills, wouldn’t she just become the butt of a joke?

"You must go," James stated, not open to discussion.

Seeing Jane pout unwillingly, James thought for a moment, realizing his tone might have been too harsh, and then continued, "In this lifetime, no one can guarantee smooth sailing. Unexpected incidents like the one in the mountains, nobody can assure they won’t happen again. You’re often off filming, and one day when you become a Movie Queen, your fame will grow, and I won’t be able to guarantee that I can show up as promptly as I did last time, every time. So, Jane Sampson, you need to learn to fire a gun, you need to learn to self-rescue, and you have to recall all the skills you learned and forgot when you were younger."

To this day, James didn’t dare to imagine if he had been a minute late that day—or no, even just a few seconds. He worried whether Jane would still be able to sit beside him making a fuss and being displeased.

Ever since returning from that incident, James had thought that even if Jane was as intractable as rotting wood, he would personally carve and shape her.

"How come what you said is exactly like what grandfather said?" Jane blinked her eyes, then nodded obediently, "I understand, I’ll study hard this afternoon."

To this day, Jane still felt terrified when she reminisced about that incident.

Thus, James’s words had persuaded her.

But Jane also secretly laughed to herself, thinking that James truly lived up to being raised by Old Master Black—his tone and temperament really were exactly like Old Master Black in his younger days.

After the meal, James took the initiative to clean up the bowl and chopsticks, while Jane sat in the living room, continuing to browse through the bag of snacks on the tea table. Upon closer inspection, she discovered that besides candy and biscuits, there were also dried fruits like sunflower seeds and pistachios.

Hearing James’s footsteps coming from the kitchen, Jane grabbed a bag of snacks and waved it at him, testing the waters, "Is this for me?"

"Depends on your behavior," James walked over, took the bag from Jane’s hand, tossed it, and threw it back into the bag, "No snacks after meals."

Jane puffed up her cheeks, then slowly started to smile.
