Chapter 1064 - 1072: Put Down the Dog’s Paw

~4 min read 701 words

Jane Sampson had sworn up and down to Old Master Black and the others on her way over that she would really apply herself in the afternoon’s practice, not expecting to make leaps and bounds but at least to see some small progress.

But in reality, she had to take back every word she had said.

She had intended to practice diligently, but after too many off-target shots, it wasn’t just a matter of whether James Black still had enough patience—she herself was the first to lose it.

As Jane Sampson headed back, she thought to herself that she would rather tackle three to five examination papers than continue with marksmanship training.

Sharpshooters be damned; what could she do about it? If talent wasn’t there, she was just as desperate.

Or rather, she would rather spend her afternoon like Old Master Black, practicing boxing than wasting it all here.

Not waiting for James Black, who was behind, Old Master Black and Peter Gingery approached Jane Sampson as soon as she ran over, and then left the shooting range with her.

Seeing Jane Sampson’s grim face, Old Master Black didn’t say anything to bring her down, but instead offered some words of comfort, "Don’t worry, take it slow. After all, compared to before, your rate of missing has decreased, so I’d say it’s still somewhat of an improvement."

"Old Sir is using all the patience of his lifetime to comfort you—hope you’re not foolish enough to not pick up on that," explained Peter Gingery coolly from next to her.

As expected, after receiving an eye roll from Jane Sampson, Peter Gingery gave a sheepish smile and shut up.

James Black was still tidying up at the shooting range, and the three of them returned to James Black’s dormitory.

The modest dormitory seemed a bit crowded with two extra people, but Jane Sampson happily rolled up her sleeves and began busying herself with preparing dinner.

When James Black returned, Old Master Black was sitting in the living room watching TV by himself. As for Peter Gingery and Jane Sampson, their giggles and laughter could be heard coming from the kitchen.

He walked over to the kitchen and saw that the two of them were just as childishly throwing flour from the chopping board at each other and frolicking about; what were once clean faces were now covered in a white layer.

Standing in the doorway, James Black watched Peter Gingery grabbing flour and preparing to retaliate against Jane Sampson. He stood there, raised his hand, and knocked on the kitchen door.

"Peter Gingery," said James Black, waiting for Peter Gingery to turn and look at him before continuing, "put those dog paws of yours down."

"..." Peter Gingery’s face was a picture of bewilderment. "???"

So, his wife was allowed to bully him, but he wasn’t allowed to fight back?

What kind of brother was this?

His own flesh and blood?

Are you sure he wasn’t picked up from somewhere outside?

Peter Gingery relaxed the flour in his palm and glared fiercely at Jane Sampson, who was next to him grinning mischievously. However, due to the threatening gaze of the man at the door, he reluctantly lowered his hand.

Jane Sampson’s smile grew even prouder, the spitting image of a villain.

After laughing to her heart’s content, she turned to the man at the door and called out, "Hang out with Grandpa in the living room and watch the TV; dinner will still be a while."

James Black hummed in response before turning around and leaving.

As soon as James left, Peter Gingery’s hands went straight to Jane Sampson’s face and smeared it all over, "No wonder you’re so cocky today. Don’t think just because you brought backup I’d be scared of you!"

Jane Sampson couldn’t dodge in time, and her face got covered in flour. Seeing Peter Gingery’s fearless demeanor, she opened her mouth and shouted, "James Black, James Black, Peter Gingery... mmm~"

Before she could finish her sentence, Peter Gingery covered her mouth.

"My dear madam, my dearest madam, I was wrong, I was wrong, okay? How old are we now, and you’re still tattling!" Peter Gingery begged for mercy continuously.
