Chapter 1069 - 1077: Schemes of the Heart
"Outdoors, listen to Coco’s instructions, and don’t just eat anything at random. As soon as you arrive, remember to start with mineral water for a few days to avoid feeling unwell due to the new environment," James Black thought about Jane Sampson going to such a distant place, and countless things he wanted to tell her sprang to mind.
But now, as he was holding her hand, he feared that if he said too much, the people nearby might pout thinking he was annoying. So James only gave a few pieces of advice, leaving the rest for Coco to keep an eye on Jane.
Even if James were to nitpick, he couldn’t find any flaws in Jane Sampson’s assistant. Seeing Jane and Coco getting along well, it seemed more reliable to count on Coco to watch over Jane, rather than hoping Jane would be obedient for such a long period of time.
After all, James knew a thing or two about Jane, since she was his own wife.
How obedient Jane was depended on how long he was not by her side.
Jane grunted in affirmation, nodding her small head, just as she was about to sweet-talk him, a voice full of vigor suddenly came from behind.
"Sister-in-law!"
"Good evening, sister-in-law!"
Two team members came up side by side, shouting from less than ten meters behind Jane and James. By the time Jane turned to look, they had already sprinted closer, stopping right before Jane and continued calling out, "Sister-in-law, you’re visiting the guard team today!"
Another team member handed over the mangoes he brought, "Sister-in-law, these are the mangoes sent from my hometown, try them."
Members of the guard team hiding in the shadows immediately clutched their chests in frustration.
Such scheming!
This guy didn’t tell everyone he was bringing treats for sister-in-law when he left out, nor did he remind everyone to do the same.
Jane had no idea that as she accepted the mangoes, a group of people had sneakily ran back to the dormitory once again.
"I’ve heard from Peter Gingery before that sister-in-law likes mangoes a lot. These big ones were sent from the southland, they’re really sweet," bragged the team member. "They’re from our own orchard. If sister-in-law doesn’t find it enough, let Peter know, and I’ll have home send more over. They’re not valuable things, so please don’t dismiss them."
"How could I? By the look of it, these mangoes seem very sweet." Jane quickly expressed her thanks with a smile. "It’s rare nowadays to get fruits that are organically ripe. These must be organic fruits, right?"
"They definitely are! We don’t use any pesticides in our orchard, even pest control is done physically," the team member proudly spoke of his hometown orchard. "Our hometown’s mangoes are the most famous in the entire southland."
"Thank you!" Jane shook the bag in her hand and sincerely thanked him, "If I come to the guard team next time and have enough time, I’ll cook spicy beef for you guys. Peter said you all like it."
"Sister-in-law’s cooking skills are really great, just thinking about that flavor makes me nostalgic," the team member praised.
James lingered on the side, waiting as Jane chatted with two soldiers under his command. As the trio chatted on, showing no sign of stopping, he raised his eyebrows and said, "Are you finished talking? If you’re done, you can go back now."
"We’re done, we’re done. Sister-in-law, we’ll leave first, see you next time." The young team members each showed a hint of reluctance as they left one after another.
Reluctant to leave?
James scoffed quietly in his heart.
His wife, and those two dumbfounded guys feeling reluctant about what?
