Chapter 1096 - 1104: Guess Who I Saw
Peter Gingery had never had a girlfriend in his life; the only girls whose hands he had ever held were probably those of his childhood friends like Jane Sampson, Yvette Quick, and Nina Rice.
And that was during a game.
So, James Black couldn’t use what Yvette Quick had told Peter Gingery to explain that falling for someone meant truly wishing to be by her side at all times, to look at her, to hold her, to be with her.
"Don’t force-feed me dog food; I’m not into it," Peter Gingery shook his head repeatedly, then said, "I saw Julie Sampson, she was tugging and pulling with a pair of middle-aged people in a corner of the public park, and later I saw her take those middle-aged people to the bank, where it seems she gave them tens of thousands in cash."
Peter Gingery continued, "At that time, I was curious, so I had someone look into it for me, and only then did I learn that those middle-aged people were Julie Sampson’s foster parents from her childhood, that Andrew Chip couple. They had come from the countryside to Capital Province. Upon investigating, I found out that the couple had previously sought out little Jane Sampson but had been sent away by her. However, they’re pretty daft themselves, taking so long after all this time to finally find Julie Sampson."
Originally with his eyes closed, James Black slowly opened them, revealing a coldness in his eyes upon hearing this.
"Why would Julie Sampson give money to Andrew Chip and his wife?" James Black asked.
"I don’t understand—maybe Andrew Chip threatened her with his obligation from raising her," was what Peter Gingery thought, "After all, Andrew Chip and his wife had raised Julie Sampson."
"Raised her?" James Black let out a cold laugh, "Julie Sampson is not a particularly kind person. The Chip Family mistreated her; being able to leave the Chip Family and return to the Sampton Family, Julie Sampson didn’t know how happy she was. So, in Julie Sampson’s heart, there is only hatred for the Chip Family, no love, and certainly no gratitude."
Seeing Peter Gingery still seemed unsure, James Black unfastened the top button of his shirt to take a breath and continued, "Just as she resented your sister-in-law for occupying the position in the Sampton Family that should have been hers, she too resented Andrew Chip and his wife, thinking if it hadn’t been for the two of them taking her away, she might have grown up in the Sampton Family and wouldn’t have had such a hard childhood."
Thus, James Black was sure that someone as selfish as Julie Sampson couldn’t possibly have a grateful heart.
Andrew Chip and his wife had not taught her gratitude, and the Sampton Family hadn’t either.
Therefore, it seemed illogical to James Black that Julie Sampson would give money to Andrew Chip and his wife.
"Could it be because of her reputation? Could it be that Julie Sampson is afraid Andrew Chip might ruin her reputation?" Peter Gingery suggested.
"She’s been resigned from the radio station for several months now. She now holds an idle position within the Sampton Family’s company. Right now, her reputation is not something that can threaten her," after all, Julie Sampson was no longer climbing the social ladder through fame, so James Black thought for a moment, then turned to Peter Gingery.
"Have someone keep an eye on Julie Sampson and find two others to watch Andrew Chip’s family," James Black ordered.
"Okay," Peter Gingery nodded in agreement. Although he felt this matter was irrelevant to him and James Black and saw no need to get involved, since James Black had requested it, Peter Gingery didn’t argue and simply agreed.
With Jane Sampson not at home, James Black had Peter Gingery escort him back to the guard team.
Together, they returned under the moonlight, and by the time they arrived at the guard team, it was very late.
