Chapter 1134 - 1142: Blocked Off
Blinking her eyes open, Jane Sampson was shocked to still see James Carter by her side.
"Mr. Carter, you haven’t been watching over me all day, have you?" Jane sat up abruptly, causing her head to spin for a few seconds before she slowly recovered.
"Why are you still so restless? Didn’t the doctor tell you that you need to take it easy during your recovery these few days?" James Carter frowned slightly and couldn’t help but reprimand Jane, but seeing her stick out her tongue and smile sheepishly, he explained, "After you fell asleep last night, I went to rest at a nearby hotel. Don’t believe me? Look, haven’t I changed my clothes?"
After Jane had fallen asleep, a caregiver had stayed with her, and indeed, James had gone back to the hotel to rest, returning to the hospital more than an hour ago.
"Can I go to the ward next door to see Coco?" Jane felt restless and wanted to visit the room next door.
"You can’t yet, at least not until tomorrow. You’ll have to be on your feet before you can do that. Coco has been on medication all day and has been resting the whole time; even if you went there, you wouldn’t be able to talk to her," James explained. "Be patient; I’ll go with you tomorrow."
Jane was unusually obedient, nodding her head after seeing the serious look on James’s face as he persuaded her. She then picked up her fully charged mobile phone and turned it on.
The first thing Jane did after booting up her phone was to browse the local news for Cloud Province. However, whether on Twitter or on the major forums, there was not a bit of information about the incident that had happened yesterday.
As Jane puzzled over this, a call from James Black came through.
She answered the phone immediately, her tone full of surprise as she spoke to James on the other end, "What a coincidence! I just turned on my phone less than five minutes ago, and now you’re calling me!"
"Did you go to bed last night and sleep until now?" James’s voice was very gentle.
Listening to Jane’s curious tone on the phone, James didn’t tell her that since 2:30 that afternoon, he had been making a call to Jane every half an hour.
It was just now that he finally got through.
"Yeah, I slept really deeply," Jane nodded, admitting without a trace of guilt before quickly changing the subject, "Why is there nothing online about what happened over here?"
"It was promptly suppressed," James explained to Jane. "Your shooting location is quite remote. Other than those directly involved, almost no one else knows what happened. Because measures were taken in a timely manner, the news was kept under wraps and didn’t spread."
The serious social malfeasance of this magnitude had to be suppressed; once it got out, the negative impact would be too significant, as well as spreading too much negative energy.
And of course, it would affect the film crew negatively as well.
Most impacted, certainly, would be the local government and the local tourism industry.
If outsiders mistakenly believed that the local area was so chaotic in terms of public security because of the news, many people would be wary of entering this city.
Another crucial point: many from the crew, including actors like Jane, were injured – not an insignificant number. If the news got out, there would be many media paparazzi converging on the area, by which time those injured wouldn’t be able to have the peaceful and stable recovery environment they have now.
"Everyone who caused the disturbance last night has been arrested, including those who flipped yours and Coco Edwards’s car. Not a single one has been missed. According to the investigation, less than one-third of the people who caused the trouble at the hotel last night belonged to relatives who were arrested for theft. The remaining two-thirds were swayed by the village idler’s incitement, hoping to use this as an opportunity to extort the hotel and your crew."
