Chapter 1136 - 1144: You Are Good-Looking

"I look good?" Jane mumbled, but still turned her mobile phone’s camera toward herself and stuck out her tongue, making a silly face directly at the phone.

"You look very good," James replied seriously.

Even the silliest face is beautiful.

It’s also the most beautiful silly face in this world.

Definitely more attractive than James Carter’s face.

James’s compliment "You look very good" came through the phone. James Carter heard every word, stunned for a moment, then chuckled softly and asked, "Is this what they call being fed a mouthful of dog food?"

Jane burst into laughter, looking at James Carter, who really didn’t seem like the kind of person to say something like that.

Jane and James chatted for a while longer, but since James Carter was still here, Jane swiftly ended the video call. Not long after, the doctor came in for a routine check.

Seeing Jane in good spirits, he asked some routine questions and then told her to rest well and eat her meals on time.

Jane and James Carter’s dinner was delivered by a delivery guy; to take care of Jane, a patient, James Carter had specially ordered meals from a grand dining hall nearby.

Although she had slept through the day without eating a single bite, Jane’s appetite was still not great.

Holding the bowl, she blew on it for a while before managing to drink just half a bowl of soup and then stared at James Carter.

James Carter, who was looking down at his meal, noticed Jane’s gaze and looked up, puzzled, and asked, "Don’t like the food? Or if there’s something you want to eat, tell me, and if the doctor allows, I’ll have it made for you."

Jane shook her head and put down her soup scoop, "I don’t really have an appetite; I’m fine with just some soup."

"If you really don’t feel like eating, then try soup with rice. Having a few spoonfuls of rice is better than just drinking soup when you’re hungry," James Carter stood up, extended his hand, and scooped a couple of small spoonfuls of rice into her soup bowl, saying, "This is like eating congee. You haven’t eaten anything all day, just drinking soup won’t do, especially since you need to take medicine later."

Jane wanted to say no, but seeing James Carter had already started to prepare it, she held back her refusal.

She sat on her sickbed while James Carter stood next to her, bending over to separate the rice in the soup bowl, careful and slow, perhaps to avoid splashing.

Jane watched James Carter’s actions intently, before suddenly asking, "Mr. Carter, why are you so good to me?"

At every opportunity, she was the first thing that came to his mind.

From the first time they met till now, James Carter had offered her many opportunities to move upward, including the Spring Festival Gala they agreed upon a few days ago.

When he learned she was in trouble, he took the express train overnight, refusing others’ help, and personally took care of her, gently coaxing her to eat and helping her with her soup-soaked rice.

James Carter hadn’t expected Jane to ask such a question out of the blue; however, it really did stump him.

He put Jane’s soup scoop back into the soup bowl, then sat back down on the chair next to the bed, thought seriously for a moment, and said, "If you really ask me why I’m so good to you, I don’t know why, it’s just that I can’t help wanting to treat you a bit better, hoping to see you a little happier."

After saying this, James Carter smiled softly and continued, "There’s one thing, you might not believe—I didn’t know about your accident yesterday, and after waking from a bad dream at midnight, I was restless."
