Chapter 1145 - 1153: Very Worried About You

~4 min read 665 words

"Yes," Jane Sampson nodded, "call her Lucy, Lucy as in lush green grass."

James Black hummed in acknowledgement, then finally looked at Jane Sampson with earnest and asked, "Where are you hurt?"

Jane shook her head, "I’m not injured, I’m perfectly fine."

After she had answered, Jane asked again, "How come you are here?"

"Your mobile phone was unreachable, and so was your new assistant’s. When I saw the news about a major traffic accident on the expressway, I calculated the time and figured that you must have been passing through that section right then. Unable to reach you, I took a taxi here to the hospital to check on the situation," James Black said as he turned Jane around to take a closer look, "Are you really not injured?"

"Really, I’m not. At the time of the accident, I was lying lazily on the rear seat, hugging a soft pillow. Also, Chip was driving very slowly. We were right traveling in the slow lane, and when we saw the accident ahead, Chip braked in time. I didn’t even roll off the back seat."

Talking about the car accident, Jane Sampson felt a lingering fear, "It’s reliable that Chip was driving. If he had been going any faster back then, we wouldn’t have been able to brake in time, and we definitely would have crashed into the car ahead like the others. The impact at that speed on the highway would have been terrifying."

"Then why are you at the hospital? And why were both your and your new assistant’s mobile phones unreachable?" James Black bellowed, "Don’t you know I’d be worried?"

Taken aback by James Black’s sudden outburst, Jane Sampson just froze there.

Seeing Jane’s expression, James Black pressed down the emotions in his heart and repeated in a grave tone, "I couldn’t get through to you... I was very worried about you."

"Because Chip was injured," Jane Sampson hurried to explain, "We did brake in time, but the car behind us didn’t manage to stop and crashed into us, pushing our car into the guardrail. The men from the truck behind us were unreasonable. They pulled Chip out of the car and started beating him, blaming him for braking suddenly which caused them to be unable to stop and crash into us. They even demanded Chip to pay them money."

Jane Sampson took a breath before continuing, "Lucy saw those guys and quickly took out her mobile phone to call the police, but they snatched her phone and threw it off the bridge. At that time, I was about to call you, but they saw me and thought I was also going to call the police. So they grabbed my phone too and threw it against the guardrail, smashing it."

"The accident ahead was serious, so the traffic police arrived quickly. At that time, Chip was arguing with them. Because there were many onlookers around, they didn’t dare to hit Chip more than a couple of punches. When the police checked, they found that all the people in the car that hit us had been drinking. They were all driving under the influence and were locals, some gangsters from King Town. They saw our car had an outside region license plate and that our car wasn’t fancy, so they wanted to bully us. Then the traffic police helped us call the authorities," Jane Sampson finished explaining.

The reason she was at the hospital was that Chip needed to be examined for injuries, so she and Lucy had come along to accompany him. The police were also there to take their statements.

Jane Sampson and Lucy both ran around the hospital helping Chip, and in the commotion, they forgot to borrow a phone to make a call.

After finishing her explanation, Jane Sampson looked at James Black nervously. She thumped her head, then reached out and tugged at James Black’s sleeve, her voice low, "James Black, I’m sorry, I made you worry so much."
