Chapter 1183 - 1191: He Is Qualified
It’s hard for Jane Sampson to believe, if she hadn’t heard it with her own ears, that James Carter’s leg had become like this because of his own younger sister.
Such a good Mr. Carter.
And such a gentle Mr. Carter.
Even though she knew she had no right, Jane Sampson couldn’t help but feel the urge to blame Jillian Carter at this moment.
If Mr. Carter’s leg was the result of an uncontrollable accident that led to the current situation, perhaps it would just be a matter of regret, but the truth was not so.
Jane thought, Mr. Carter must have loved his sister dearly, so even though it was because of her that he became like this today, when he mentioned his sister, there was not the slightest hint of blame.
"Daddy, you don’t need to explain, I know that you and mommy, and brother are blaming me," Jillian Carter kept repeating this sentence, biting her lip as if only by saying it over and over again could she assure herself that she hadn’t done anything wrong over the years.
"Back then, after your brother had an accident, if I had known you didn’t want to study abroad, yes, for your mother’s sake, I would also have let you leave home for a while. But it would have just been for a while, and once your mother’s condition improved, I would have let you come back. You haven’t been home all these years; your mother has been constantly worried about you, afraid that you would exhaust or overexert yourself in your studies, and you haven’t even taken the initiative to call your mother once."
Father Carter was not just disappointed; he had no room even to sigh.
All these years, he had been worried about his daughter abroad, suffering alone, but she had actually been in King Town the whole time, clearly within the country. Yet, she sent one lie after another back home.
Father Carter shook his head, stood up, walked to the balcony, and called out to Jane Sampson, "Jane, it’s windy on the balcony, don’t stand there and catch a cold. Come in and sit, there’s nothing we can’t talk about in front of you."
Father Carter had noticed that Jane, who had gone to the balcony, kept rubbing her hands and breathing on them to keep warm. The weather in King Town was already cool, and at this time the sun wasn’t strong. Living high up, the wind that blew was mostly still tinged with chilliness.
So Father Carter called Jane back in himself.
Jane thought for a moment, hummed in agreement, and walked back.
She had just gone downstairs for a meal, thinking she wouldn’t leave the hotel, so she hadn’t worn a thick coat. When she came out to the balcony, she forgot to grab a coat to drape over herself, and by the time she stood out there and felt the cold, it seemed inappropriate to go back and get one.
But since Father Carter had spoken, Jane didn’t continue to let her body suffer and walked straight back in.
Jillian Carter glared at Jane Sampson and sat there without uttering a word.
Once Jane had entered, she poured herself a cup of warm boiled water and took a few sips, glanced at the father and daughter in front of her, and slowly began to speak, "Although this matter concerns Uncle Carter and Miss Carter’s family, since I’ve encountered it and I’m good friends with Mr. Carter, I still want to say a couple of things."
Jane looked at Father Carter and, seeing no objection on his face, continued and called out to Jillian, "Miss Carter, you keep saying your family blames and resents you, so you kept the secret from them that you didn’t go abroad and stayed in King Town instead. Over the years, you’ve told one lie after another to your family. Do you think you did nothing wrong? That your mistakes were just unintentional slips and accidents?"
