Chapter 1184 - 1192 Do You Understand
"Just now, when I heard you speaking with Uncle Carter, it seemed that Mr. Carter not long after his accident went abroad. So, I’m guessing you probably haven’t seen what Mr. Carter looks like these days, or seen him walking slowly with the aid of a cane."
"Mr. Carter should have been such a celebrated and respected person. Even if you are his sister, since you ruined his legs, even as a brother, what’s wrong if he blames you? Have you ever felt what it’s like to walk and have people staring blatantly at you because of your own flaw?"
Jane Sampson softly scoffed, "And have you ever felt how it is to walk down the street with ignorant children mimicking your uneven gait with a cane, following behind? No, you haven’t felt anything. So you think it was an unintentional mistake, and no one should blame you, right?"
"But in fact, Mr. Carter has every right to blame you because you turned his life upside down. You shattered his life completely, so he has every right to resent you. Yet, paradoxically, he loves his sister, so he has never uttered a word of blame. Aren’t you satisfied?"
Some people have so many loving family members caring for them, thinking of them, and doing things for their good, but they don’t cherish it.
While others wish for it but don’t have it.
Jane truly envied Jillian Carter for effortlessly having what she had wanted for two lifetimes.
Jane still couldn’t forget how even after those ignorant children imitated his way of walking, James Carter still turned around and smiled, consoling her by saying it didn’t matter, that he was used to it, and that the young kids were simply finding it amusing.
But truthfully, was it amusing?
Not at all.
Those impolite children, not knowing how to respect others, might genuinely find such mimicry amusing.
But they don’t know, how much courage does it take for a person to get used to such disrespect?
And how many times of helplessness does it take to finally become accustomed to it?
Jillian Carter didn’t expect Jane Sampson to suddenly lecture her like this. Her face immediately darkened, and her voice turned cold, "Miss Sampson, do you naturally like to meddle in other people’s business? What right do you have to butt into matters of the Carter family? What does it have to do with you?"
"Jillian!" Father Carter, angered by Jillian’s attitude, raised his hand and slammed it onto the tea table. Bang! The loud noise startled Jane herself.
"I will not hold you accountable for lying for the time being!" Father Carter growled, "Right now, tell me, why was a girl like you heading to a hotel early in the morning?"
Jillian’s expression froze, and she subconsciously looked towards Jane.
But it was this instinctive glance that made Jane frown and ask, unabashed, "Miss Carter, you wouldn’t have specifically come looking for James Black, would you?"
"And who is James Black?" Father Carter asked, "A male?" The name sounded male and somewhat familiar.
"My husband," Jane responded to Father Carter, and then she turned to Jillian, "Miss Carter, although my husband once saved you, he has said that he has saved countless people. He is a defender, and saving people is part of his duty, so there’s really no need for Miss Carter to go to all this trouble to find my husband."
"As for the thanks, you’ve given them yesterday. And since he is a guard, no matter how powerful Miss Carter may believe you are, I ask that you not privately investigate the whereabouts of a defender. Do you understand what I’m saying?" Jane asked gently.
