Chapter 1210 - 1218: What are you looking at?

~4 min read 642 words

James Black let out a low chuckle, helplessly lifting his hand to touch the small head in his arms, "After my mission ended, I contacted the guard team and learned about your situation from Peter Gingery. Since I wasn’t far from King Town, I took a detour to find you first."

Pausing for a moment, James continued to ask, "Peter Gingery was unclear about it, so what exactly happened?"

There were a lot of things Jane Sampson couldn’t discuss with Aunt Black and the others, but she could lay it all out to James without any mental burden.

She handed over her mobile phone to James. She had not deleted the text messages she received, which were still there. Then, she explained in detail to James about her and Bright Sampson visiting the Crystal Element Hotel and even showed him the video evidence she had obtained from the hotel.

James glanced through the video and casually asked, "You don’t know many people in King Town, could it possibly be Jillian Carter?"

It wasn’t surprising that James thought of her first; after all, Jillian had spent several years in King Town and had the capability.

"At first, I did wonder if it was Jillian Carter, because it was me who exposed her lies. She has the capability and the motive," Jane said, then changed her tone and shook her head, "But it wasn’t her. Later, I probed Mr. Carter about Jillian’s situation and found out that Minister Carter hadn’t even had lunch that day; he took Jillian straight home. All of Jillian’s cards were suspended, and she was closely guarded and locked in the house to reflect. Mr. Carter told me that Jillian’s dad didn’t even let her use her mobile phone."

So Jillian Carter was ruled out.

James hummed a response, "Go take a bath, leave me your phone. I need to make a call."

"The phone’s battery is almost dead, it’s showing low battery, 5% remaining. You can find the charger in my purse and charge it first, I’ll go take a bath," Jane said, as her phone suddenly turned off by itself.

Seeing this, Jane gave a somewhat embarrassed chuckle and tossed her purse, held in her arms, to James, and then cheerfully went to grab a change of clothes and headed into the bathroom.

James lowered his gaze to look at Jane’s purse, a soft chuckle escaping him before he rummaged through her somewhat disordered purse to find the charger. He then turned to go to the desk next to and start charging the phone.

What James didn’t expect was that the moment Jane Sampson’s phone was turned back on and after entering the lock screen password, several text messages from an unknown number suddenly popped up.

Are you James Black’s wife?

James Black is in our hands. If you don’t want James to die, come alone to find him!

This is James Black’s mobile number, and I believe you wouldn’t fail to recognize your own husband’s phone number. So, if you don’t want to collect your husband’s dead body, you’ll follow my instructions obediently.

And the last text message was the address of an abandoned factory in the city James had just left.

After reading, James furrowed his brows deeply.

So his phone hadn’t been lost, but it had been taken by someone by his side after the mission ended?

"What are you looking at?"

The person who should have been in the bathroom suddenly appeared behind James and asked a question, startling him. He had been so engrossed in thought that he had not realized Jane had come out again.

Glancing at the stuff in Jane’s hand, James guessed she must have gone in and then realized she forgot her towel, hence why she had come out again.

"Did you receive this text message before?" James asked.
