Chapter 1219 - 1227 Together to Investigate
Under normal circumstances, Charlotte Miller would have called Jane Sampson before coming here, confirming Jane’s recent filming activities in King Town and that she was staying at this hotel.
And since Charlotte had come, she should be trying to contact Jane, especially living so close. Shouldn’t she find some time for the two of them to meet?
But Charlotte had inquired about Jane before she arrived and remained silent for so many days after her arrival—that was not normal.
Jane looked at James Black and asked, "How likely do you think it is that Charlotte did this?"
"These things aren’t guessed, they’re verified," James replied. "Keep watching the video, then save the part where Charlotte’s front view is shown separately. Take it to Charles Young for identification to see if it’s him, ask the Crystal Element Hotel staff whether Charlotte is still here, and if she has left, ask which day she checked out, and also which room she stayed in. Ask the Aunt who cleaned her room that day whether she found any abandoned sim cards or anything like that in the room."
After he finished speaking, James turned his head and stroked Jane’s head, intending just a quick touch, but upon feeling the unexpected pleasant sensation, he hesitated to retract his hand and instead started rubbing her head before reluctantly pulling back.
As expected, he got an eyeroll from Jane.
Jane, visibly annoyed, pushed James away and, seeing Brooke Black’s people preparing to leave, turned to see them off.
James leaned against the table edge with his hands in his pockets, leisurely watching Jane bid farewell. Only when the door was closed did he nonchalantly walk over, wrapped his arms around her waist, and planted a kiss.
Jane was kissed by James so unexpectedly and confusingly that she was utterly baffled.
Are all men like James, one second discussing serious matters, the next, giving into their animal instincts?
Fortunately, James showed a trace of humanity, stopping after Jane was kissed to a point of weakness, holding her delicately and softly as he chuckled lowly, opting not to pursue further.
"Do you remember the strange text message from a stranger that you saw on my phone a few months ago?" James asked, his hand holding Jane’s all the while.
Jane hummed in acknowledgment, nodding, "I remember."
How could she forget? When she had accidentally seen that text message on James’s phone back then, she was absolutely shocked.
"I investigated later and confirmed it was Charlotte," James continued. "But since then I’ve been quite busy and didn’t have time to deal with her in detail, so I just blocked her number and didn’t engage with her any further."
"Her?" Jane’s shock escalated even more.
Jane never imagined that the person sending texts to James back then could be Charlotte.
But the question was,
"How does Charlotte have your mobile number?" Jane asked. "Did you give it to her when you were in the guard team?"
"No," James replied unpleasantly, then stared at Jane with a dark expression and asked, "Do you think I’d give my mobile number to such a person? I don’t just give out my number to anyone who asks."
Although James was unhappy, Jane’s mood lifted, her mouth spreading into a grin.
"Perfect opportunity to investigate together this time; if it really is her, we’ll settle both accounts at once, and also find out how she got my mobile number," James said, his fingertips pausing as they brushed Jane’s small hand.
Just as Jane was guessing whether this man was pondering something serious, she heard James suddenly ask her, "What do you want to eat for our next meal?"
