Chapter 1247 - 1255: Pretend I Didn’t Ask

~4 min read 621 words

"Jane, whether it’s me, or James, including your aunt, we all hold a grudge against the Miller Family. In the past, the Black Family severely crippled the Millers, and now, over 20 years have gone by. As long as the Millers don’t come around us, we won’t target them again. But we absolutely forbid anyone from the Black Family from having any contact with the Millers." Old Master Black patted Jane Sampson on the back of her hand, "When James was young, he really suffered because of the Millers, so you should show him extra care and concern."

"Grandfather, don’t say that," Jane Sampson leaned on Old Master Black’s shoulder, acting coquettishly, "Even if I don’t dote on James, I still dote on my grandfather. I’m not lacking the Miller Family’s endorsement fees; even if I were, I’d rather starve than associate with them."

Jane’s words undoubtedly brought comfort to Old Master Black, "James doesn’t like to talk about his childhood, so I’ll just share these moments with you alone."

Jane made a sound of agreement, "I understand what you mean, Grandfather."

James is actually quite proud inside, so Jane knew the implied message from Old Master Black—don’t mention anything about the Millers in front of James. She might as well pretend she knew nothing.

The two family members chatted in the courtyard for a while, and soon after, Jane saw James driving back.

James’s car had barely come to a stop when Jane had already started jogging towards him. As James got out of the car, Jane blocked his path with a look of ’how could you go out and have fun without me?’

"You were sleeping so soundly," James explained briefly, then handed over the milk tea he was holding. "Here, this is what I promised you earlier."

Jane, who had initially thought about having a little pretend fight with James, burst into a grin upon seeing the milk tea, showing teeth but not eyes, "Don’t tell me you went out just to buy me milk tea?"

"You wish," James chuckled and greeted Old Master Black in the courtyard before leading Jane into the house.

Though James’s reply might have sounded a bit harsh, seeing that he brought milk tea, Jane decided not to make a big deal out of it.

Once inside, James heard a click from behind, followed by Jane’s enthusiastic slurping of milk tea. When he looked back, she was visibly enjoying it.

It seemed she had been craving it for quite some time.

From summer, craving iced milk tea—

To winter, craving hot milk tea.

James laughed softly, unable to help himself, and reached out to tousle Jane’s hair, asking without thinking, "What else do you want to eat?"

After asking, James regretted it because Jane usually took advantage of such situations.

Sure enough, Jane responded without hesitation, "Spicy crayfish, but you certainly won’t let me have it, so your question was pointless."

James raised an eyebrow, "Well, then pretend I didn’t ask."

Jane: "..."

So frustrating.

"What were you doing when you left home this morning?" Jane pulled on James’s arm and asked casually.

It couldn’t possibly have been a special trip to get her milk tea, because if James said it was, she wouldn’t believe him.

James took the new phone out of his pocket and showed it to Jane, then reached directly into her coat pocket to take out her mobile phone, saying, "I got a new number, I’ll save it in your phone."

Jane nodded and made a sound of acknowledgment without further questions. As James sat on the sofa with both phones, she instinctively followed and sat next to him, sticking to him like a shadow and watching him work.
