Chapter 604 - 612 Saturday
"Taking my snacks and cursing me at the same time? Do you think that’s decent?" Jane Sampson muttered to herself, suspecting that James Black had discovered her attempt to sneak away with heavy belongings.
It had taken her some time to run back, and she had been at the dormitory for a while. Even if James Black dawdled, by this time, he would have emerged from the bathroom. She wondered if seeing her with the snacks would make him so angry that his eyes and nose would go crooked.
While popping a marshmallow into her mouth, Jane focused all her attention on the doorway.
Truth be told, she was quite afraid that James Black would do what he said and would come to her dormitory, then carry her off just like a purse.
Jane worried for a long time until everyone had finished their snacks and washed up, and it was time to turn off the lights and rest, but James Black never appeared. Only then did Jane let down her guard, thinking he was merely trying to scare her with his words.
That night, Jane slept especially well and even dreamt she was standing on James Black’s face, squashing it flatter and flatter.
Until she flattened him into a sheet of paper, then she stood with her hands on her hips, laughing triumphantly.
The next morning, the first thing Mair Williams did when she opened her eyes was to turn and ask Jane seriously, "Jane Sampson, did you have a happy dream last night? Hibiscus Wood and I heard you laughing all half the night."
"Waking up from sleep with laughter probably means you had a dream like the one you had last night." Hibiscus Wood shook her head with her hand on her forehead.
Sitting in the quilt, Jane gave a silly grin but didn’t join the conversation. When the bathroom was finally free, she quickly jumped out of bed and bounced inside.
By the time Jane came out after washing up, the three outside were discussing the guard team’s life over the past week.
Today was Saturday, their last day with the guard team. Tomorrow morning, everyone would leave the guard team and say goodbye to a week of life with them. Sitting on the bed, drinking water, Hibiscus Wood talked about how she considered quitting the program crew and leaving early when she was most tired and strained this week.
But she bit the bullet and stuck it out.
"It seems once you hold on, these days just fly by like a flash. Today, looking back on the past few days, especially the first three days after we arrived, it feels like it’s been a very long time." After saying this, Hibiscus Wood turned to Mair and asked, "What about you?"
"It just feels really tiring," Mair sighed, "Like you said, I’m surprised I made it to today."
After exchanging a few words, seeing Jane coming out, they stopped discussing and left the dormitory for the dining hall.
Upon arriving at the dining hall, Jane went straight to line up for peanut soup, having realized over the past few days that it was her favorite breakfast. As tomorrow would be her last day, she didn’t need to think twice upon entering the dining hall.
"Hey, Jane, it looks like there are more breakfast options in the dining hall today," said Hibiscus Wood, who was standing in front of Jane, then turned to tell her, "Come up here and see."
"Yes, there are indeed quite a few more breakfast dishes this morning," said the uncle who was ladling out the food, chuckling, "These dumplings were wrapped overnight by your instructor. Today is your last day here, and your instructor said you should have an extra meal."
The dumplings were steamed, with both vegetarian and meat options. Jane took a look, got herself a serving, and after getting her breakfast, she stood to the side waiting for Mair and the others.
