Chapter 607 - 615: Provincial Makeup Artist
"You guys will be the closing act," Hibiscus Wood said with tears almost spilling out of her eyes, "and you can’t go on before my number. Otherwise, after your performance, who will still watch me dance like a madwoman all by myself?"
"Then Jane Sampson, we’ll leave the props for our performance to you, and I’ll write the lines," Benjamin Worthington raised his hand and gave Jane a high-five, and then they slapped each other’s palms.
Once their tasks were clearly divided, Jane didn’t waste any more time.
She and Benjamin were more pressed for time than the others since one had to write the script and the other had to take care of the costumes. They also had to prepare gifts for the instructor and rehearse.
After they disbanded, Jane headed straight for the mountain they had visited on the day of the game. Before the climb, she also got a very large basket and scissors from the program crew.
"Are you going to cut leaves first to make the costume for the Green Snake?" the cinematographer asked, following behind Jane.
Jane nodded and then shook her head, explaining, "I’ve decided what gift to make for the instructor. I’ll use the various leaves from the mountain. Oh, and ask the director to prepare a few larger pieces of white cardboard for me later, I need them."
Having heard Jane’s words, the cinematographer grew curious. However, seeing that Jane was adamant about not saying more, the cinematographer also kept his curiosity to himself and didn’t ask any further.
Jane climbed up the mountain, and before she knew it, she found herself under the peach tree from that day.
Looking at the familiar and warmly welcoming peach tree, Jane reached out and hugged its trunk. Just when the cinematographer thought in shock that Jane was going to climb the tree again, he heard her pat the trunk and say, "Hey, old pal, I’ve come to see you."
"..." The cinematographer and the rest of the crew were all at a loss for words.
Jane really just greeted the peach tree and then left. But before she walked away, she looked up at the two ripe peaches hanging high on the tree, and then she continued on her way.
Since time was short, Jane didn’t stay long in the mountains; after gathering enough leaves, she hurried down to the temporary workspace the program crew had arranged for her on the first floor of her dormitory. Everything she needed was already there.
Jane worked quickly. By the time the directors called for lunch, she had just finished all her gifts and costume props. In the more than two hours after coming down from the mountain, she had been so busy she hadn’t even had time to take a drink of water.
After locking the door, Jane followed the filming crew to the dining hall.
When she arrived, Mair Williams and a few others were there. Mair and Hibiscus Wood were discussing the matter of the director giving back their cosmetics.
Jane listened for a moment and then exclaimed, "Does that mean we have to go on stage with makeup tonight?"
"This is the thriftiest program crew I’ve ever seen, the kind that even cuts out makeup artists," Mair nodded and then turned to call the director who was sitting at the next table, "Director, isn’t that right, huh?"
The director glared at Mair and then said, "I pick people based on their looks, naturally cutting out the need for a makeup artist."
"The director sure has a way with words!" This time, Jane’s compliment came from the heart.
"Society praises the director, handsome man, handsome words," Hibiscus Wood nodded in agreement.
After waiting a while, Hugo Edwards and the others arrived as well. No one asked about the gifts everyone had prepared for the instructor; instead, they brought up the afternoon’s rehearsal.
