Chapter 621 - 629: Not at Home
Jane Sampson played games on her mobile phone until 9:30 p.m before she went to take a bath. After bathing and completing her skincare routine, she lay back in the bed, and by then it was 10:30 p.m.
Alone, she tossed and turned in the king-size bed she shared with James Black, spending some time lying on his side of the bed, sniffing his pillow like a dog, before rolling back to her own spot.
In her heart, she hesitated. Should she send a text message to James Black to tease him a bit?
With the gift and the self-criticism report she gave him yesterday, would this guy reply to her WhatsAPP messages?
Jane thought to herself that if it had been her, she probably would have blocked him by now.
Seeing that Jane Sampson’s Mr. Black was still properly listed in her contacts, Jane clicked on his chat and sent him an emoticon that said, "I’m just so cute."
After waiting a few seconds and seeing no response from the other side, Jane guessed. Was it that he didn’t have his mobile phone with him and hadn’t seen the messages, or was it that he saw them but didn’t want to pay her any attention?
Just as Jane was about to send another emoticon to probe further, she suddenly heard some noise at the main gate.
Jane was startled, then ran out of the bedroom barefoot. By the time she had passed the living room and reached the entryway, she saw the door to the house ajar, with James Black standing in the doorway, pulling out his keys.
!!!
Damn!
He actually came back just for the self-criticism report!
He actually chased her all the way home!
Jane felt as if she had been struck by lightning, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and for some reason, she found the guts to dash out and, with all her might, pushed James Black, who had just pulled out his key, out of the door.
Then, in the quickest move of her life, Jane swiftly closed the door and locked it from the inside.
Even though James knew Jane was standing in the living room and that she had charged at him, he never would have guessed that Jane would actually push him out of the home doorway.
He listened as the sound confirmed that she had indeed locked the door from the inside.
Trying the key, James verified his suspicion.
"Jane Sampson, open the door!" James’s voice, with veins popping and a cold tone, boomed, "It seems you’ve gotten too bold recently!"
Jane stood foolishly inside, staring at her hands, her face bearing an expression of ’what did I just do.’
Hearing the words from James outside the door, Jane had only one thought in her heart.
Don’t open it, if she opens now, she’s definitely done for!
"Jane Sampson!" James called out again.
Jane shivered and blurted out, "Jane Sampson’s not home!"
After finishing her sentence, she dashed back into the bedroom as fast as she could, slamming the bedroom door shut behind her, blocking out any sound of James calling for her from outside.
Having pushed James out and locked him out, he was bound to be furious by now.
Jane deeply realized she had been impulsive, but to open the door and welcome him back now was out of the question.
All Jane could hope for was that James wouldn’t be able to get in and would just return to the guard team on his own, and by the next time they met, his anger would have subsided.
Or perhaps, in the meantime, she could find a way to soothe him? If she managed to do so, only then would she meet with him.
But James Black is the hardest man to soothe in this world!
With the turtle gift from before, along with the nonsensical self-criticism report she had just made up, plus now having locked him out, the more Jane thought about everything she had done these past two days, the more she felt as if she had been cursed, leading her to do things that even now, seemed unthinkable to her.
