Chapter 717 - 725: No Crying Allowed

~4 min read 636 words

Even in her high heels, Jane Sampson didn’t fall behind and kept pace all the way until she re-entered the Emergency Room. The first thing she saw was the doctor.

"Where is my husband?" Jane Sampson asked breathlessly as she stood in the doorway.

"He’s here, he’s here," responded the nurse at the door, quickly making way for her to enter.

The doctors there also stepped aside, watching the woman in her formal dress enter, while muttering to themselves about how she looked somewhat familiar.

As soon as the deity-like doctor stepped away, Jane Sampson walked a few steps inside and immediately saw James Black lying on the sickbed.

He heard her footsteps, turned his head, and looked towards her.

Just that one glance.

Jane Sampson’s tears began to fall silently.

"Where did you get hurt? Why are you covered in blood?" Jane Sampson ran over, stood next to the bed, trembling all over. Her hand gently touched James Black’s blood-stained white shirt, then she looked down at the blood on her fingertips, nearly sobbing uncontrollably, "Weren’t you fine before we left?"

"I’m fine," James Black’s voice was weak, and he frowned slightly at the sight of Jane Sampson crying like a pear blossom battered by the rain.

Jane Sampson also wanted to believe that James Black was alright, but seeing the white shirt that had been dyed red, she couldn’t fool herself into believing he was unharmed.

"Jane Sampson, I really am fine." James Black’s eyebrows furrowed deeper, but his words seemed to have no effect as Jane Sampson’s tears continued to fall, one by one.

"Jane Sampson, you are not allowed to cry!" James Black scolded in a low voice, his expression somewhat stern.

Perhaps startled by his tone and expression, Jane Sampson stopped crying, but the tears still uncontrollably fell one by one without a sound, making her look even more pitiful.

Though there was no sound of crying, her body was still shuddering.

"I won’t cry," Jane Sampson croaked, then stubbornly wiped away her tears with her hand, "I can’t cry. The more I cry, the more you panic. I can’t add to your troubles."

As she spoke, she rubbed vigorously, even smearing the makeup on her face.

But the more she wiped, the more fiercely her tears fell, and the harder she wiped, until the corners of her eyes grew red and swollen.

Seeing Jane Sampson like this, James Black’s heart suddenly ached.

"Forget it, go ahead and cry." James Black’s voice was gentle, "It’s okay, if you want to cry, then cry."

Jane Sampson shook her head with her lips pursed, "I won’t cry."

But tears don’t lie, and as she spoke, they kept falling heavily, landing directly on James Black’s bloodied white shirt.

One second.

Two seconds.

On the third second, her crying voice finally broke out.

"I’m sorry, James Black, I can’t help it." Jane Sampson wished she could swallow all her tears.

Seeing James Black covered in blood, she was really very afraid.

Aside from fearing the lightless ruins and flinching from the pain of being hit by stones, she was more panicked by the feeling of James Black gradually losing his life and warmth while lying on top of her.

Seeing James Black covered in blood at that moment, panic overwhelmed her like a deluge.

Jane, she was afraid that James Black might die.

"Don’t hold back." James Black wanted to lift his hand to wipe Jane Sampson’s tears, but with his hands injured, he couldn’t lift them at all.

She cries, he feels panicked, he feels heartache.

She holds back, he still feels hurt, still feels panic.

"Doctor, how bad are his injuries? Weren’t you going to operate? When will the surgery be? Are there any risks?" Jane Sampson’s hand gently touched James Black’s face.
