Chapter 721 - 729: Didn’t Go

~4 min read 643 words

"Little Jane, don’t get up so quickly," Coco Edwards said, feeling sorry for Jane Sampson just looking at her. She’d been crouching for so long, and to stand up so abruptly, who wouldn’t feel dizzy?

Jane had just steadied herself when she walked over to the doctor, holding onto the side of the sickbed, her eyes fixated on the person in the bed.

James Black, lying in the bed, was awake. Seeing that Jane had removed her makeup, changed her clothes, and was wearing a mask, he frowned, "Didn’t you go?"

"Does it hurt?" Jane asked, her question off-topic. Her fingertips gently touched James Black’s bandaged hands.

It was very light, as light as a speck of dust landing on them.

"Jane Sampson, what did you promise me? Not listening, huh?" James’s Black’s words lacked the threatening tone, as he had just finished surgery and come out of the surgery room; his questioning "huh" didn’t scare Jane as before.

"It must be very painful, right?" Jane’s eyes reddened again almost immediately.

James hurriedly said, "No crying allowed!"

"I’m not crying!" Jane retorted subconsciously, then, biting her lip, she repeated, "I’m not crying, really!"

After saying that, she turned away, raised her hand to wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes, then turned back, her tone even more assertive than before, "Look! Am I crying or not?"

Even James Black couldn’t help but feel his heart soften at her stubbornness.

"Alright, you’re not crying." He let it be. Scolding her would only lead to more crying afterward.

A wife is made of water, not to be yelled at, not to be scolded.

The doctor next to them couldn’t help but laugh at the couple’s interaction, then removed his mask and reassured Jane, "Don’t worry, the surgery went smoothly, no issues. Your husband needs to rest his left hand for some time, but his right hand is better, and the bandage can be removed in one week."

After the doctor spoke, he turned to James Black in the bed, "You can’t always be so harsh to your wife. Look at how much she worries about you? Such a cute wife, and you still dare to scold her, careful or you might not have her to scold anymore."

"Did you hear that? The doctor said you can’t be harsh with me," Jane said, breaking into a smile, grinning at James before thanking the doctor.

Jane was in the process of accompanying James, helped by the nurse, to the ward when Quincy Forest and her two siblings, along with James Carter, arrived together.

As the three of them arrived, a representative from the police also came bearing fruits to visit James Black.

"What’s going on with you, James Black? I was waiting for you at the conference venue the whole time. The premiere had already begun, you didn’t show up, and little Jane didn’t either. Then John Young told me something happened to you, that you were undergoing surgery in the hospital and little Jane was waiting here. You almost gave me a heart attack," Alexander Forest said in a loud voice to James Black upon entering the room.

After finishing his speech, Alexander noticed James’s hands were bandaged up. He snorted, "Whoa, broke your hands, did you? Come on, let’s take this outside! Time for a duel!"

"You asking for it?" James Black glanced at Alexander, "Believe it or not, I could still pin you to the ground and beat you without using my hands."

Alexander was momentarily silenced, touching his nose tip.

Well, that was embarrassing.

Because he believed it.

James Black had always been a fierce person, ever since they were little.

Forget about needing both legs, he probably could handle him with just one.

Kane Forest followed, looking at his cousin with a steady voice, "How did James Black get hurt?"
