Chapter 755 - 763: Impractical
For someone who spends every year living like a single dog, there’s never any concern about when the Qixi Festival rolls around each year.
"When is the Qixi Festival? Maybe you’ll still be with the guard team," Jane Sampson muttered as she circled around James Black, preparing to go up the stairs.
James Black stretched out a leg to block her path to the stairs, "Did I say you could go?"
"..." Jane stood there and glanced at James Black, thinking this guy was really bossy to a whole new level.
"No matter what day of the week it is, I will definitely come home in the evening," James said.
Jane racked her brain but couldn’t figure out why James suddenly brought up the Qixi Festival. How could a man who was first in the world at being unromantic suddenly become so interested in celebrating such a cheesy festival like Valentine’s Day with her?
"I know, I know, it’s just about buying you a gift," Jane pouted, her face clearly showing indifference.
James’s expression soured, "Jane Sampson, this is our first Valentine’s Day since we got married, so watch your expression, and don’t let me see any hint of indifference."
"Yes, Chief," Jane stood there with a smile that was a model of insincerity.
"So, have you thought about what you’re going to get me as a gift?" James asked smoothly.
"It hasn’t even been one minute since you said you wanted to celebrate Valentine’s Day, has it?" Jane raised a thumb, "In this one minute, what do you think I could have thought of?"
At this, Jane paused, then spoke, "How about I buy you a pair of cufflinks as a Valentine’s Day gift?"
"Not practical," he snorted, "I’m with the guard team, and I mostly wear team uniforms and training gear. I hardly wear formal clothes. What use would I have for cufflinks as decorations?"
Jane felt that there might be a little bit of sense in what James said.
She thought about it and then said, "Then should I buy you clothes? Pants, shoes?"
"Don’t need them," James shook his head, "For the same reasons as the cufflinks, not practical."
Jane had the eerie feeling that James was deliberately being difficult with her.
She took a step back, then stood on a step so she was level with James, the height of the step making her not look so short next to him.
"Then how about I buy you a big gold necklace, as thick as my pinky finger?" Jane showed off her small white teeth with a cheeky grin, her mind instantly filled with her past image of James as a ’Big Brother’ type.
With a cigarette in his hand, a patterned shirt, black leather jacket, bell-bottom jeans, riding a motorcycle, and of course, if he wore a big gold necklace, it would add a tag of wealth to his coolness.
Jane’s mind spun, and she giggled, thinking perhaps during Chinese Valentine’s Day, she could prepare such an outfit as a gift for him. She might not have seen James dressed like that in their youth, but now, it might just make up for what they missed back then.
"Jane Sampson, are you asking for a cleanup?" James’s tone changed, cold and stern.
Fantasy shattered.
Jane knew James wouldn’t like it.
She playfully stuck out her tongue at James, "Not this, not that, so tell me, what do you want?"
Men are so troublesome!
Jane huffed.
Women are so much better!
How easy it is to please a woman, right? If a lipstick doesn’t do the trick, just add a purse, and if that doesn’t work, throw in a pair of shoes, and if that still doesn’t work, just add a set of jewelry. You could celebrate every day of the year, and never have to repeat a gift to keep a girl happy every day.
