Chapter 759 - 767: The Result of Careful Consideration
But the problem was, if she bought it, she would really be left with less than a hundred bucks.
What can you do with a hundred bucks these days?
Not enough for a few cups of milk tea, and a couple more ice creams would break the bank.
Frustrated!
Jane Sampson tossed her mobile phone back on the sofa, continuing to vent her frustration on the backrest at her feet as if it were James Black oppressing her.
It’s so annoying, why did he suddenly get the urge to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?
Even more annoying is that he’s threatening her with the promise of not celebrating it for the rest of their lives.
Angry! Angry! Very angry!
Jane Sampson grumbled to herself, "It’s just that I don’t want to celebrate this year, but I want to every year after."
If it weren’t for the gift that James Black wanted being too expensive, Jane Sampson would like to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.
As a married woman who’s lived practically no different from being single for over 20 years, it was rare that James Black took the initiative to propose celebrating Valentine’s Day; Jane’s heart was all in for it.
She’s grown up only ever celebrating Spring Festival.
Valentine’s Day, Chinese Valentine’s Day, they always seemed unrelated to her.
She’s well-grown and yet she has never received roses!
Jane Sampson tossed and turned on the sofa for a few minutes before finally making up her mind, picking up her mobile phone, and opening the browser to enter the official website customer service.
About ten minutes later, Jane Sampson returned her mobile phone to her pocket and went back upstairs.
Once upstairs, Jane first went to the bedroom to find James Black, but he wasn’t there.
She called out a few times in the passage, "James~ James~"
After calling out twice and not hearing a response from James, she began opening each room one by one, finally hearing what sounded like James on a phone at the study doorway.
Because he couldn’t hold the phone while making a call, he had it on speakerphone.
Jane Sampson eavesdropped at the doorway for a few seconds and heard him seem to mention something about an auction event.
Just as Jane was about to listen for more, James noticed her and hurriedly said to the person on the call, "That’s all for now, we’ll talk later."
After quickly hanging up the phone, James turned to Jane at the doorway, "Come in."
Jane gave an "Oh" and pushed the door open to walk in, giggling, "Were you talking to Alexander Forest on the phone? What were you saying about some auction event? What auction event?"
"You don’t need to know so much." James Black lightly pushed the phone with his fingertip to the inner side of the desk to prevent it from falling off the table.
"What a drag~" Jane Sampson pouted and then shuffled into the room, naturally pulling a chair over to sit opposite James, resting her arms on the table, her head propped up on the back of her hands, and staring straight at him.
"Made up your mind?" James asked.
Jane Sampson nodded, "Made up my mind."
Seeing James look up at her, she smiled mischievously, "But, Valentine’s Day, what’s the big deal? It’s a holiday for lovers, not for an old couple."
"Is that the result of your deep contemplation downstairs for twenty-some minutes?" James breathed in deeply, frustrated, "Jane Sampson, you really are something."
"Don’t praise me like that, you’re making me blush," Jane Sampson joked, burying her face in her palm, "Who makes me so thrifty and frugal."
Jane waited a few seconds for James to respond, but when she looked up again, he was nowhere to be found; she couldn’t find him anywhere in the study.
She had no idea when he left, but the spot where he had been standing felt as though the air itself was still cold and solidified.
