Chapter 766 - 774: Raising the Cards
This jade hairpin is of tremendous significance to the O-Young Family, enduring through so many years, surviving wars one after another, and still being preserved intact is indeed rare.
Without Alexander Forest saying so, James Black knew even more about the origins of this hairpin.
"Raise the card," James Black said to Alexander Forest.
"Oh, okay!" Alexander Forest subconsciously responded, but only after he’d lifted and held up the card did he pause, looking surprised, "After all that, you came today for the stuff from that woman’s family, huh?"
Alexander Forest was astounded, "I flipped through the catalogue just now and thought you were here for something else. Turns out, you’re just after this hairpin?"
"Is there a problem?" James Black shot back a question.
"How could I dare." Alexander Forest shook his head and continued to ask, "I’m just a bit curious, who are you buying it for?"
Upon hearing Alexander’s question, James Black simply gave him a look that said ’are you an idiot’, "I only have one wife, Jane Sampson. If I don’t give it to her, who else could I give it to?"
"..." His logic was so sound, it left one without a comeback.
Alexander Forest changed tactics, "Why would you think of giving your little Jane this hairpin out of the blue?"
"Valentine’s Day is approaching," James Black responded this time to Alexander Forest, but as for why he thought of giving Jane Sampson this hairpin, he didn’t answer.
For someone not particularly attentive to Jane Sampson’s preferences, that question shouldn’t make much sense even if answered.
After Alexander Forest raised his card, three more people followed suit. Alexander Forest glanced at James Black, understanding his intent, and continued to raise his card. When the price hit 6.9 million, two out of the three people gave up, leaving one woman, who seemed very keen on the hairpin, shouting a price of 7.5 million directly.
Alexander Forest clicked his tongue three times, "That’s impressive."
James Black, with furrowed brows and without even looking at the woman not far away, directly said to Alexander Forest, "8 million."
Alexander Forest’s hand trembled, but seeing that James Black didn’t seem to be joking, he then raised the card in his hand, shouting, "8 million."
Alexander Forest could clearly feel that right after he called out the price, a group of people around them glanced in their direction.
And 8 million was clearly beyond the initial estimated price set by most people for this jade hairpin.
million could truly be considered no bargain.
The woman over there thought for a moment, then decided not to continue.
The host on stage waited nearly one minute, called out "8 million" three times, and then declared, "Number 12, 8 million, sold!"
Upon hearing the word ’sold’, Alexander Forest subconsciously turned back to look at James Black and was startled to see a smile on his face that shocked Alexander.
So, the always stoic and unsmiling Mr. Black actually smiled after spending money on his wife.
"Come with me to pay; I want to take it with me right away," James Black lost interest in all subsequent auction items, urging Alexander Forest, and got up to leave.
"What’s the rush? The company will personally deliver the stuff to your place later," Alexander Forest muttered, but James Black had already left, so he could only follow.
Unnoticed by either of them, the woman who had previously given up also followed them out as soon as they left.
