Chapter 771 - 779: Here it Comes

~4 min read 617 words

The traffic flowed smoothly all the way, and since Alexander Forest was starving, the car did not drive slowly, and the two of them arrived at eight o’clock.

Jane Sampson, who had been eagerly awaiting James Black’s return in the living room, immediately jumped up from the sofa as soon as she heard the sound of the car in the courtyard. She had turned on the TV for the whole afternoon, and at this point, Jane had not heard a single line of what was being shown. Jane hurried out to the courtyard, and right as she got next to the car, Alexander was helping James open the car door. Jane stepped back to give James space to get out, her eyes sparkling as she blurted out, "You’re back!"

Only after stabilizing himself did James turn to look at Jane, her smiling face so radiant that it easily lifted his spirits, and he gently curved the corners of his mouth into a faint smile back at her.

"Yeah," James nodded, then asked, "Have you eaten?"

"No, didn’t I say I’d wait for you guys? But I’ve cooked everything that should be cooked and it’s warming in the pot. We can start the meal after I stir-fry some green vegetables." As Jane spoke, she kept her eyes on James’s hands, expressing her concern, "Was everything smooth tonight? No one bumped into your hand, right?"

"Little Jane, with me around, why worry?" Alexander grabbed Jane’s shoulder, steering her towards the house, "I’m starving to death. Please, great chef little Jane, work your magic for us."

It was precisely because it was Alexander accompanying Jane that she felt uneasy; after all, he seemed unreliable no matter how you looked at it.

If it had been Kane Forest instead, Jane definitely wouldn’t have worried.

A dish of green vegetables would only take three minutes to reach the table. After setting out the dishes, Jane went back to the kitchen for bowls and chopsticks, calling out to the two men, who had gone upstairs for some reason, to come down and eat.

But the two men were on the third floor and didn’t hear her. After Jane set everything up, she headed upstairs, and hearing voices coming from the study, she walked toward it, knocked gently on the door, and softly said, "James Black, Alexander Forest, it’s time to eat."

"Coming right now!" Knowing of Jane’s culinary talent, Alexander quickly answered and, two seconds later, burst out of the study door, leaving James behind and jogging down the stairs.

Jane waited by the door for James to come out, not asking what the two men were doing in the study. Seeing that James was still in his suit, she asked, "Do you want to change your clothes first? Isn’t it inconvenient to eat in that?"

"It’s fine, let’s eat first." If his hands had been fine, the first thing James would have done upon returning was to change clothes, but if he needed to change, he would require Jane’s help, and being extremely careful would take a long time.

It was past 8 o’clock already, and knowing Jane hadn’t eaten anything, James shook his head and decided against it, a bit worried that Jane might be starving.

Alexander Forest was certainly not someone who would be polite to James Black. By the time the two men got downstairs, the famished Alexander had already started slurping down a bowl of soup, though he hadn’t touched the vegetables yet.

"Little Jane’s cooking skills are amazing; having it once, you’ll yearn for a lifetime," Alexander sighed, "If Old Master Black hadn’t promised you to James Black so early on, I’d definitely have snatched you up."
