Chapter 873 - 881: Are You Waiting for Me to Eat?

~4 min read 705 words

After seeing off that team member, Jane Sampson closed the door and returned to the kitchen, immersing herself in the significant task of preparing dinner.

The purpose of Jane’s visit was to appease James Black, so, tonight’s dinner dishes were all catered to James’s taste.

Having married James Black for many years, before and after her rebirth, Jane Sampson might not have grasped what kind of temperament James had or what he mostly thought about, but she did understand what he liked and disliked eating.

Old Master Black had joined the guard team when he was young and had a strong taste in food; James Black, raised solely by Old Master Black, inherited the same tastes.

They both preferred strong flavors.

They could handle spicy food and loved dishes rich in oil and salt.

Jane was busy in the kitchen, and time seemed to pass without her even noticing.

Over at the practice field, James had stayed until 6 o’clock before he returned to his office, grabbed his mobile phone without looking at it, slipped it into his pocket, and was ready to head to the dining hall for a meal.

Along the way, James was thinking about whether he should go home after the meal.

Lost in thought, he unconsciously arrived at the doorway.

"Chief, hello!" Just as he was walking towards the dining hall, a team member who had just changed shifts was surprised and casually asked, "Chief, didn’t your sister-in-law say she was making dinner for you? Why didn’t you go home to eat?"

James stopped as he was stepping up the stairs, turned his head to look at the subordinate who was talking to him, and asked, "Did your sister-in-law come to the guard team?"

Hearing James’s question, that team member guessed that the chief had come straight here from the practice field without checking his mobile phone after returning.

"Your sister-in-law has been here for a while now." That team member glanced at his watch, made an estimate, and said, "It’s been so long, she probably has the meals ready and is waiting for you to come home."

No sooner had the team member spoken than James had already turned neatly and left the dining hall, quickly heading back to the dormitory.

Just as that squad member had said, by this time, Jane Sampson had already prepared a table full of dishes and was waiting for James to return.

Logically, James should have come home earlier, but Jane waited and waited and he didn’t return, so she directly leaned against the balcony, stood on tiptoe, and looked outside.

As soon as James arrived at the building downstairs, he saw the figure on the balcony.

His vision was excellent; he looked up and could see that Jane Sampson, who initially had her lips pursed as if a little upset, immediately smiled very happily upon seeing him, and though she didn’t call out to him, she still stretched out her hand and waved to him.

James took two steps at a time up the stairs, and before he had a chance to pull out the keys, the door opened from the inside.

Inside the door, Jane Sampson stood barefoot in the entryway, clenching her small face as she stared at him and asked, "Why have you come back only now?"

There seemed to be a hint of grievance in her voice.

James raised his hand and pressed it on top of Jane Sampson’s head, "Waiting for me to have dinner?"

It seemed she had indeed been waiting a long time; he could smell the aroma of the meal coming from inside while standing at the door.

"Yes." Jane nodded her head, and once James had changed into his slippers, she directly reached out and held his uninjured hand, pulling him toward the dinner table while saying,

"I made a lot of dishes you like, braised chicken wings, sour soup beef, green pepper beef, spicy dried small fish..."

James listened as Jane recited the menu all the way to the dinner table and, indeed, almost every dish was one of his favorites.

Glancing down at Jane Sampson whose eyes were sparkling, a phrase inexplicably popped into James Black’s mind.

Unsolicited favors beckoned trouble.
