Chapter 991 - 999 I Opened
"How is that possible! If I had hit the tree trunk, then how would Henry Bright have fallen!" Jane Sampson thought James Black was teasing her, "I said I wanted the truth! I want the truth!"
James Black burst into laughter.
Was the little fellow being unreasonable now?
She had just requested the truth, and now she’s not happy, pouting unhappily?
"Jane Sampson," James Black called out, "no playing games."
"I’m not!" Jane Sampson stomped her foot in frustration, "If I didn’t shoot accurately, how did Henry fall?"
Seeing Jane Sampson like this, James finally understood; did Jane genuinely believe she was the one who had lethally shot Henry?
"Come on, tell me." Jane Sampson gently urged James.
Only then did James slowly begin to speak. "It was me who fired."
After saying this, he explained, "When I got there, I saw Henry going towards you with a dagger while you held the gun. Given the positions, it was too late to stop him before he got to you, so I fired my gun."
Seeing his young wife’s astonished face, James’s voice contained a smile, "It’s curious, our shots fired almost simultaneously, so the sounds overlapped, and you thought you had fired just one. If you don’t believe me, you can ask James Chip; they were standing over there. As long as their vision is good, they should have seen the shot I fired. And there’s also the fact that bullets don’t turn corners. From where you were, you couldn’t have hit Henry at the spot where he was shot."
"..." Jane Sampson froze, blinking her eyes.
So, she wasn’t the sharpshooter today?
Jane thought that explained why James Chip had been praising her all day but never complimented her marksmanship because he knew she didn’t fire the shot.
And Jane had always thought it was she who had fired, anxiously waiting next to James Chip today for him to compliment her shooting skills. If she had been a bit more shameless, she probably would have reminded him to compliment her right then and there.
Jane turned her head away from James.
Should she dig a hole and crawl inside, what should she do?
Luckily, she hadn’t been too shameless in asking James Chip to praise her shooting skills; otherwise, she would have truly embarrassed herself all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
Coco Edwards sat there, laughing uncontrollably, "Oh dear, my little Jane, you are so cute! No worries, it’s not embarrassing. Husband and wife are one body; there’s no you or me. Your husband fired, it’s as if you fired, no difference."
"Go away, just go away." Jane Sampson was furious. Was this Coco’s idea of comfort? It was clearly mockery.
"Angry out of embarrassment." Coco grabbed a few wild fruits, waved her hand, "I won’t disturb you two, I’m going back to my room."
That person left with laughter that didn’t cease even as she walked out the door.
After Coco had closed the door and left, James walked over to Jane, pressed his palm on her head, "Unhappy now?"
"So embarrassing." Jane pouted.
"You insisted on hearing the truth." James pointed out that it was Jane’s own choice.
"I really thought it was me who had fired!" Jane wrinkled her nose, so naturally, she had insisted on hearing the truth then.
James’s laughter was soft, then he pulled the awkward Jane into his arms.
"You were reluctant to hold me just now, and now won’t you even after cleaning up?" He said so, but his hands were already wrapped around Jane’s waist, holding her tightly.
