Chapter 1: 001. The Monsters of the Dead‑Bone Forest (Part 1)

~6 min read 1,198 words

It's been almost five months since I crossed over here, and this morning Wang Wu was building his doorframe at the entrance of his cave, stacking the stones he had gathered during this time and tamping them with earth.

Although he lives in a cave, the conditions inside are actually quite good—ventilated and dry, pretty nice.

"Wang Wu! Wang Wu!"

At that moment, a lively voice came from behind the busy Wang Wu. He stopped his work, turned his head, looked at the voice's owner, and asked:

"Shu Niang? What's up?"

The person who came from behind Wang Wu was a very beautiful girl: peach‑blossom eyes, eyebrows like willow leaves, a jade‑like nose, vermilion lips, and a slender, graceful waist.

Calling her flower‑like and moon‑beautiful would be no exaggeration.

Yet this flower‑like girl was dressed in an old, thin men's short brown coat, with only a ragged pair of trousers on the lower half, barefoot, and her hair casually tied into a bun.

Her attire was undeniably casual—almost shabby—but it didn't diminish her charm in the slightest.

It is now deep autumn, and the forest temperature is already low—around ten degrees Celsius during the day, dropping close to zero at night.

But the thin clothes seemed to affect her not at all; she remained full of vigor.

"Winter's coming soon; do you still have leisure time to build your doorframe here?"

Shu Niang walked over, carrying a rabbit in her hand. She bumped into Wang Wu, then lifted the rabbit and said to him with a giggly smile:

"Here, you don't look like you've prepared anything. I caught several rabbits today and will give you one."

Looking at the rabbit in Shu Niang's hand, Wang Wu smiled, "This rabbit won't fill you up; there's hardly any fat. You should keep it for yourself. When I went to your house a few days ago, I didn't see you had much stored grain either."

After speaking, Wang Wu turned back around and continued with his own work.

"Well, that's still better than you, right?" Hearing Wang Wu's words, Shu Niang immediately became displeased and said to him:

"I haven't seen you go hunting these past days; you're either staying at home all day or running to Wu Er Niang and Zhu San Niang. Do you expect them to have any surplus grain to share with you?"

"You just don't get it," Wang Wu replied with a smile. "I have my own way to stock up for winter; you'll see in time."

"Tsk, you don't appreciate kindness..." Shu Niang pursed her lips and didn't press the issue. Yet she didn't leave; she stayed by Wang Wu's side, watching him work.

"If you don't have anything else to do, help me out, and I can finish faster."

After tinkering for a while longer, seeing that Shu Niang hadn't left, Wang Wu turned his head toward her and said:

"Oh, fine." Shu Niang nodded, placed two wild rabbits on the ground, and stepped forward.

"What should I do?" she asked.

"Help me with this, and also this..."

Time passed quickly; in the blink of an eye, an hour had gone by.

"Done."

Wang Wu clapped his hands, looking at his newly built doorframe, feeling a surge of accomplishment. The door itself wasn't finished yet, but that was for tomorrow. He still had other matters to attend to today.

"Finished?" At that moment, Shu Niang stood beside Wang Wu, looking at the stone‑built doorframe, turned her head and asked.

"It's done," Wang Wu nodded. "The rest will be done tomorrow; today just..."

Wang Wu's words were cut off as Shu Niang grabbed his hand and kept pulling him deeper into the cave.

"What are you doing? What are you doing?" After being almost dragged into the cave, Wang Wu looked at the impatient Shu Niang and asked, a bit puzzled.

Shu Niang said nothing, only began to loosen the belt around her waist. Seeing this, Wang Wu immediately understood what was happening without needing a reply.

This woman—no, this female monster—her craving has resurfaced. Ever since she tasted the marrow and fulfilled the one thing every monster must do in this lifetime on herself, she basically shows up at me every two or three days.

There's no helping it; after all, Wang Wu is the only male monster within a hundred‑plus li of this area.

Actually, Wang Wu only shed his wizard identity after arriving in this world, becoming a male, and it was because of the monster called "Shu Niang" right in front of him.

Shu Niang is very beautiful—extremely beautiful. Before meeting any other monsters, she is definitely the most beautiful woman Wang Wu has ever seen in reality, and perhaps the prefix "in reality" is unnecessary; she is simply the most beautiful woman he has ever seen.

She stands at 1.75 m, with a perfect figure; not huge, but by Earth standards back home, that's above average.

However, in this region where Wang Wu lives, there are only three female monsters nearby: Shu Niang is one, and there are two others.

One is called Wu Er Niang, the other is Zhu San Niang.

Compared with them, Shu Niang may not be inferior in appearance, but… um, anyway, each has its own strengths. Those two are especially long.

If it were the first month after arriving, Wang Wu might have been very restrained and shy about such matters, but now it's almost five months—rounding up, about half a year.

After such a long time, he has long been assimilated, becoming a standard monster.

Yes, Wang Wu is a monster, even though he didn't think so at first.

But after he was nearly killed by those "humans", nearly annihilated by a formation the human village uses to repel demons, and after the energy waves emitted by the Monster-detecting Stone gave him a splitting headache, he gradually accepted the fact.

He crossed over in a mortal body, so to the humans of this world, he is a monster.

A genuine monster.

Monstrous nature is inherently lewd; male‑female love is as natural to monsters as eating and drinking.

Moreover, monsters eating humans is also considered perfectly natural.

From total denial to full acceptance of the fact took just a little over a month; in that sense, Wang Wu's capacity to adapt is quite strong.

Of course, this doesn't refer to cannibalism; Wang Wu does not eat people.

"Wuwuwu! Pff! Didn't we just do this a few days ago? Why are you in such a hurry?"

At this point, Wang Wu was pinned to the bed, and after Shu Niang had fiercely nipped his mouth, he finally got a chance to speak.

He looked at the woman just inches away, at the face that could have launched a career in his previous life, feeling the warm breath on his face, and said:

"I still have things to do today; I don't have that much time. Another day, okay?"

"It won't take much time!" Shu Niang's cheeks flushed as she panted. After saying that, she was about to continue, but Wang Wu pressed his arm against her chest and grabbed one of her hands.
