Chapter 50: The Preciousness of Destiny, The Lightness of Destiny (Part 1)
"And those corpses…" Wu Er Niang said, a greedy glint in her eyes, "Shall we…"
"I don't eat people, Er Niang," Wang Wu patted Wu Er Niang's forehead; at his height he could finally reach her head, since he stood nearly five meters tall.
He said affectionately, "If you want to eat them, go ahead; let's see if Shu Niang and San Niang want any."
Wang Wu himself does not eat people, but he is not particularly opposed to monsters eating humans. Because that's just a link in this world's food chain: humans eat monsters, monsters eat humans; it's merely a cycle.
He Dong Xian sells monster meat, and it's not cheap. Monster and beast meat is far superior to ordinary animal flesh, extremely delicious.
However, monster meat is a bit cheaper than beast meat, and the reason is simple:
Monsters, after shapeshifting, look just like humans; even when dead their true form is exposed. Yet for some humans it's still a bit unsettling, and some monsters retain human traits after death, making it even more awkward.
When given a choice, beasts are naturally the better option.
Moreover, beasts' energy isn't fully stored in a demon core, since the core hasn't fully condensed, so their meat's nutritional value is naturally higher.
Also, lacking shapeshifting, they possess some spirit intelligence but can't compare to shapeshifted monsters, so eating them poses no psychological barrier.
Good taste and high nutrition make them naturally more popular.
Wang Wu does eat beasts, but he doesn't eat monsters; having fully awakened, he wouldn't if he knew. He can't find beasts in Wang Gu Lin, but he has eaten them in He Dong Xian.
Monsters are few, yet their meat is cheap. Beasts are many, yet their meat is expensive. It's rather interesting, actually.
"Huh?" Upon hearing Wang Wu, Wu Er Niang froze, then immediately said, "Then I won't eat either, Wu Lang."
"Ha ha, Er Niang, you're really kind," Wang Wu laughed, walked over and nuzzled her head.
Tsk…
On the other side, a disdainful voice of a female cultivator sounded. Wang Wu didn't mind; after all, she was already doomed.
Scanning the surroundings, as Wang Wu prepared to touch the cultivators' corpses again before leaving, he suddenly realized: when he transformed earlier, he seemed still clothed and wearing a spatial ring.
But now, those items were all gone.
"My clothes!! My ring!!!!"
"It's over!!!"
Wang Wu let out a howl of grief.
Yet when he reverted to human form, a smile also appeared on his face.
For reasons unknown, his clothes remained intact, and the ring sat perfectly on his hand.
Wu Er Niang beside him was even more astonished, because she had clearly seen Wang Wu's clothes completely torn when he transformed.
But now, how did they revert back again?
Wang Wu was a bit puzzled, but the doubt soon vanished. He recalled the annotation in the cultivation manual he was studying at the time:
"Note: This method's Heavenly Demon Body has undergone many iterations; now it no longer damages clothing during transformation. Regardless of visual effects, original garments will restore after the transformation ends."
"Join the Supreme Heaven Vajra Sect to obtain more advanced realm techniques and cultivation aids; see details at www. jtjgm. co"
"Purchase the Supreme Heaven Vajra Sect's self‑developed cultivation supplement here"
"Wu Lang, your clothes…" Wu Er Niang pointed at Wang Wu, asking in shock.
"Ha ha." Wang Wu kept patting his clothes and pants, a grin on his face: "I don't know, maybe it's some divine skill of mine? Ha ha, this feels great…"
"Indeed…" Wu Er Niang nodded, her face also full of envy.
No longer fussing over the clothes, Wang Wu and Wu Er Niang, the two monsters, continued cleaning the battlefield; they had to hurry and not waste time.
Many people died here, all powerful cultivators. So whether for the sake of incoming human reinforcements or the danger of vengeful ghosts formed from their grudges, they could not linger.
Though it was only early afternoon, the sun would not stay in the sky much longer.
During the Mid‑Autumn season, the sun sets around 3:30 p. m. each day, and by about 5 p. m. the sky is completely dark. As daylight shortens, night becomes increasingly dangerous.
All sorts of things emerge, no longer confined to Si Hun Shan and its immediate vicinity, but also the area where Wang Wu and his group reside, even farther out.
In winter, temperatures plunge and daytime becomes fleeting like a white horse passing a crack, and those nights are the most dangerous of the year.
"All cleared?" After touching the last cultivator's corpse on his side, Wang Wu looked up toward Wu Er Niang in the distance.
"All good!" Having reverted to human form and dressed, Wu Er Niang waved from there. Then she pointed at Zhao Xingyue lying over there, "That's the only one left."
A moment later, the two approached Zhao Xingyue beneath a tree. The woman wasn't dead yet but grew increasingly weak; she forced herself to open her eyes, glanced at the two monsters, then closed them again.
She even propped herself with both hands, shifting her body upward, but her facial expression showed obvious pain.
Wang Wu stared at her without speaking, yet he didn't move. Wu Er Niang, seeing Wang Wu stay still, also remained motionless.
Seeing her like that, for some reason Wang Wu suddenly recalled the story Wu Lian told him, about how, twenty years ago, she was aided in the forest by Sun Da, then an outsider from the city.
"Enough," after a moment of silence, Wang Wu looked at Zhao Xingyue and said.
"What's wrong, Wu Lang?" Wu Er Niang asked.
"I'll still give her a hand, it's a life after all," Wang Wu said while squatting, tearing off the remnants of her abdominal clothing, carefully inspecting the horrific gaping wound in her belly.
Saving her is fine; after all, the Yin Extreme Divine Sect's Ninth Rank technique includes the Disguise Technique, since that sect is a hit‑man organization.
The Disguise Technique's effect is a total head‑and‑face makeover, essentially reshaping the face. However, the genes remain unchanged, so any child born still bears the original face.
With that, his concealment improves. That face might not be usable nearby, but that's fine; after all, being too good‑looking makes entering the city draw unwanted attention.
"But in her state…" Wu Er Niang had no objection, but looking at the horrific wound, she said, "I'm afraid she can't be saved, right?"
"I'm just trying it out," Wang Wu said, "I haven't dealt with this kind of wound on a human before, so it's a good practice."
"It'll also serve as compensation for taking the companion's human pill from this woman."
