Chapter 396: Yuli Finally Broke Down—Have I Broken Too? (2/7, please subscribe)
The end of the world.
Yuli was dressed in a dark-green military uniform, with a yellow ahoge fluttering in the wind, when her stomach suddenly growled, and she blinked her eyes.
The next moment, her expression changed.
"Battalion Commander, I think I've joined an amazing organization!"
The Battalion Commander glanced at her, heart aching inside, yet said with an expressionless face: "Food is running low, we have to ration it, okay? Yuli, go to sleep. Once you're asleep, you won't feel hungry."
"Battalion Commander, I mean I've joined a really special organization!!"
Yuli excitedly repeated what she had just said.
The Battalion Commander found a spot to lie down and said: "No matter what, you can't eat any more, Yuli!"
Yuli was speechless: "I'm not asking for more food. I mean, I've really joined a really amazing organization."
"Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm!" The Battalion Commander nodded perfunctorily and closed her eyes.
As for Yuli, she knew her too well!
Every day she was always scheming to eat a little more.
But!!!
But, food really was running low. If they couldn't find any more, they'd run out of provisions in the next few days!
Even in the apocalypse, the Battalion Commander still didn't want to die, still wanted to find a future hope together with Yuli!
Every extra day those rations could last, the greater the chance of finding hope.
"Battalion Commander, I'm telling the truth!"
Yuli stepped forward and shook the Battalion Commander's shoulders. "I've really joined a supernatural organization."
The Battalion Commander was speechless and opened her eyes.
She had clearly still wanted to sleep and conserve a bit of energy!
"Bang!"
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Yuli wave a hand, and a huge pile of glittering golden things crashed onto the ground, making a tremendous noise.
"Gold?" The Battalion Commander was surprised. "Yuli, can you do magic? You actually conjured up this much gold all at once!!"
As for the gold, the Battalion Commander wasn't surprised.
This was the apocalypse, after all.
With no industrial demand, gold was no longer needed; it had long since become trash that wouldn't be picked up off the ground.
As for exchanging it for money?
In this apocalypse, currency had also become wastepaper.
"By the way, how come I didn't know you'd picked up such a big chunk of gold somewhere, eh?"
Yuli said anxiously: "No, this gold wasn't picked up. I got it after signing in."
"Signing in?"
The Battalion Commander was puzzled.
Yuli grew smug: "Battalion Commander, I just joined an amazing organization. There are so many people in it, everyone's really nice. There's a goddess, an Emperor, and a shrine maiden…"
"It's over, Yuli's finally broken!" The Battalion Commander's eyes reddened, and tears fell like pearls off a broken string. "Is the final road one I can only walk alone?"
She threw herself forward and hugged the endlessly chattering Yuli.
"Yuli, don't worry, I will absolutely never leave you behind!"
"Uh…" Yuli's expression stalled. "Battalion Commander, what are you doing? You're holding me so tight, I can barely breathe."
"Also, what do you mean you'll absolutely never leave me behind? Are you saying you'd actually leave me and go off on your own?"
The Battalion Commander shook her head: "No. You just said you joined an amazing organization, and then what?"
Yuli was too pitiful.
The Battalion Commander decided to just go along with her for now!
Her companion had gone mad. To expose her and force her to face the cruel reality would be too cruel.
"Then, everyone shared the story of me and the Battalion Commander. Wow, it actually recorded so many places from our past!"
"And the Bunny Girl senpai, that's so nice. That was a world where civilization hadn't been destroyed, with so many delicious things."
"And the Big Frog, it even swallowed a god."
Yuli said somewhat excitedly.
The Battalion Commander listened but felt Yuli was already talking incoherently—probably a person on the verge of breaking down.
Lowering her head so Yuli wouldn't see her sorrowful expression, her voice a little dry: "And then? Yuli, it must have been wonderful there!"
"Mm." Yuli, still carefree and in high spirits, kept talking. "Wow, a really nice person sent me a food red packet. Huh, smells so good."
"So good!"
