Xiao Bai reached out and sliced through the void, and at once a gateway appeared in the empty air. "Do the two of you sisters have the courage to follow me in?"

The Green Snake glanced at the White Snake, saw her nod, and only then followed after her.

"This is the Earth Immortal Realm," Xiao Bai explained. "But it isn't the Earth Immortal Realm of your world — it's the Earth Immortal Realm of the Grand Mystery Realm."

"The Grand Mystery Realm?" The Green Snake and the White Snake were baffled.

Xiao Bai waved her hand, and three meditation cushions appeared in her palm. She sat down on one herself and handed the other two to the Green and White Snakes. Only then did she begin to speak at length, recounting the affairs of the myriad heavens and worlds, and laying out the situation of the Green Snake's world.

"You mean to say that the Dao of the Heavenly Immortals is about to flourish in our world?"

The White Snake frowned. "If that's the case, won't the demon races be in danger?"

Xiao Bai said calmly, "I haven't finished yet!"

As she spoke, she laid out that whole scheme of nurturing the enemy to keep oneself in power.

"Strengthening the demon race to temper the human race — isn't that just pushing us outsiders into a pit of fire!" the Green Snake said, somewhat indignantly.

The White Snake was also baffled.

How could such a kindly elder sister do something like this?

Xiao Bai sighed. "Heaven and earth are not benevolent; to them, the myriad things are as straw dogs. Humans are straw dogs, and so are demons. Even if I do not strengthen the demon race, the Heavenly Dao will strengthen the demon race's power."

"Rather than saying the demon race is tempering the human race, it would be truer to say the two races are tempering each other."

"To the Heavenly Dao, humans are not important, and neither are demons. It only cares about the result. That is why my actions in that world went so smoothly, and I was even rewarded with a merit spiritual treasure by the Heavenly Dao."

The Green Snake and the White Snake listened, utterly spellbound, and for a long while could not come back to themselves.

In their way of thinking, doing good deeds ought to bring good reward, and doing evil ought to bring evil reward.

Heaven's will has never changed on account of good or evil.

"Then may I ask, Elder Sister, what is it you want us to do?" the White Snake steadied herself and asked.

Xiao Bai cast the White Snake a look laden with meaning and said, "I want you to become one of the Four Sovereigns of that world, to rule over the demon race and keep the demon race under control, so that it does not throw the order of heaven and earth into chaos."

"This…" the White Snake was somewhat stunned.
