Chapter 303: Way More Useful Than a Therapist
On the set of "Pegasus," Bai Liang stared at Han Han with a speechless look.
He pointed at the beat-up manual-transmission car nearby still bearing the words "So-and-So Driving School." "You're really going to let me drive this?"
Han Han looked utterly innocent. "Yep, I just said I'd let you drive a car. I never said anything about a race car."
Crap!
Bai Liang felt he had a point, because when the guy had invited him for a cameo, he really had only said to come drive a car.
He hadn't specified what kind.
But the bastard had dropped keywords like "Phoenix of the Track" and the like, so Bai Liang had assumed he was going to the Bayinbuluke track to go up against the film's male lead, Zhang Chi.
Winning or losing didn't matter—Bai Liang didn't have any "undefeated" aura. His aura was "tough life."
So when he came, he was actually pretty excited to drive a rally car.
Now at first glance it seemed about the same—indeed, there was racing involved.
Just not on a track, but at a freaking driving school.
A driving school did, admittedly, build technique.
This scene was the one where the film's male lead, Zhang Chi, wants to return to the track, and his first step is to get a driver's license and practice Subject Two.
Subject Two really does need solid practice—it's brutally hard.
When Bai Liang arrived, the crew was pretty much all there.
Shen Teng, Yin Zheng, Tian Yu.
Huang Jingyu wasn't around, though—he seemed to still be on a variety show looking after kids.
Variety shows these days really come in every flavor; kids are way harder to handle than their moms.
Bai Liang was pretty close with Tian Yu, because Tian Yu had played Wang Qinian in "Joy of Life"—a pretty important supporting role.
And Tian Yu was also close with Shen Teng and the others; one of his breakout moments in the last couple years was playing Teacher Wang in "Goodbye Mr. Loser."
Rounding up, everyone was basically a friend.
So even though Han Han had only arranged a driving-school cameo, Bai Liang could still take the initiative.
"Come on, Mr. Teng, I'll teach you how to completely trash this car's engine."
Shen Teng:???
Clearly, fame pales next to meeting the man in person!
He'd long heard this new-generation ten-billion-box-office Mr. was something else, and seeing him today confirmed—he really was wild.
But then again, who wouldn't want to learn a little trick for trashing a car engine~
Men, after all.
So he decisively scooted over to the passenger seat, ready to study up.
Then he heard Bai Liang muttering: slowly release the clutch, gently feed the gas.
At that moment, Han Han suddenly had a bad premonition, especially after Bai Liang got his hands on the steering wheel—he felt his own heartbeat slipping out of his damn control.
"Don't do anything crazy!"
"You only let me drive a driving-school car—how could I do anything crazy?"
Han Han: Fair point~
True, with these beat-up driving-school cars, what could Bai Liang possibly pull off?
Sure enough, the next second he had the car stalled.
Just then a crew member came running over. "Director, Boss Yu is here."
Yu Dong was here?
Han Han found it odd—why show up now?
But Bona was also one of the producers and distributors of "Pegasus," so dropping by the set was hardly strange.
Just as Han Han ran over to greet Bona's boss Yu Dong, Bai Liang finally got a complete feel for the driving-school car's condition.
He glanced at Shen Teng. "Ready?"
Shen Teng looked completely baffled. "Huh? Ready for what?"
"Hold on tight~"
Though he had no idea what this kid Bai Liang was up to, Shen Teng's "survival instinct" still made him grab the car's handle and double-check his seatbelt.
With a roar of the engine, the training car shot out like a hound off the leash.
Han Han wasn't around now, and the rest of the crew couldn't stop Bai Liang from messing around like this.
Yin Zheng and the others hadn't yet grasped the gravity of the situation—they were clapping and cheering.
"That's awesome! You can drive a training car like that?!"
"It didn't even fall apart—this car's solid~"
Yin Zheng suddenly added, "I heard that Da—is it Da Xian? He supposedly rides motorcycles really well too. We should hit the track together sometime."
"Don't bring that up in front of Director Han. Didn't you see how nervous he was just now? I feel there's something going on here."
"Holy crap! A training car can drift?! Mr. Teng isn't gonna puke, is he?"
"No way—he learned before he got into film."
"Really!"
At that moment, Shen Teng in the passenger seat was gripping the handle tightly—not because he was scared by the drifting or the speed.
He felt something was off about Bai Liang.
Why did this kid look so excited?
That smile was making him uneasy!
"Hey, Mr. Teng, how about I show you something cool?"
"Huh? How handsome?"
"Look at that slope over there. I can drive the car right onto the roof of the house beside it."
"Really?" Shen Teng blurted out instinctively.
As soon as he said it, he realized something was wrong—he instinctively glanced down at the passenger-side brake.
He only looked once, and Bai Liang immediately warned: "Don't step on the passenger brake—it'll ruin the car's balance at its limit."
"Huh?!"
"My bad!"
Shen Teng: These damn words are all mine!
Something's off! Extremely off! Twelve times off!
When Han Han accompanied Bo Na's CEO Yu Dong, chatting and laughing, they arrived at the driving school set—and saw a car "fly" into the air.
Crossed mountains and seas, passed through crowds of people
One drift, a sharp tailslide out of the driving school track, leaping over a ditch via a small slope, spinning slightly, then landing perfectly on the roof of the adjacent house!
Yu Dong:???
Say nothing—just clap!
That was so cool!
He clapped while praising: "Director Han, our stunt team's level is amazing~ Such imagination!"
After complimenting, he glanced around: "Hasn't Bai Liang arrived yet? Wasn't he supposed to make a cameo today?"
Han Han rubbed his face, pointing at the car parked on the roof: "If nothing went wrong, that's him driving."
"Huh?!" Yu Dong felt for the first time that he didn't understand Chinese.
When he finally processed it, his gaze at Han Han turned strange.
That's Bai Liang—you're letting him do that?
If anything happens, Bai Liang's fans might literally show up to give Han Han a beating.
Han Han: I went to such lengths to guard against this—I should've never let him touch even the instructor's car. I should've just given him a kiddie ride.
And he was gone for just a moment—yet Bai Liang pulled off something like this?
Of course, there's an even "worse" piece of news.
"Director, Brother Teng was also in the car—passenger seat."
Han Han nearly blacked out.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew had gathered around, marveling at the car perched on the roof.
"I'm convinced! I'm truly convinced—this skill is insane!" Yin Zheng exclaimed.
Tian Yu glanced at him in surprise: "You call this skill?"
"Just tell me if it landed steady."
"It landed perfectly—square and level."
"As long as it lands steady, no matter how wild the middle, it's a move."
"Makes sense."
"Why don't these two get out?"
"Probably exchanging tips~"
At this moment, Shen Teng was still calming his nerves—his heart was beating too fast! This was way too intense. But his character was Zhang Chi, not a driving instructor—shouldn't Tian Yu have been sitting here?
As for Bai Liang right now—
He was on the phone.
Coincidentally, right after he "parked" the car, a call came in.
It was Huang Jingyu.
He was currently filming a Tencent video parenting variety show called "Let Go of My Baby."
The cast was full of fresh-faced idols: Wang Jia'er, Huang Jingyu, Chen Xuedong, and Zhou Zhenan.
All "fresh meat."
Chen Xuedong would "graduate" into the "newcomer" category in two years—after years away, he returned still a rookie.
This guy was unlucky—he kept partnering with people already blacklisted, about to be blacklisted, or even jailed.
After all these years in the industry, he'd accomplished nothing.
But now Huang Jingyu felt equally unlucky—caring for kids was too hard.
So he couldn't help but call for "external assistance."
!
He knew Bai Liang was guesting on "The Fast and the Furious" today, and since he himself wasn't there, he figured he'd just say hello.
"Great Immortal, save me."
"Why are so many people suddenly yelling 'save me' to me?" Bai Liang muttered, puzzled by the opening line.
But Huang Jingyu's cry lacked the emotional punch of Mango TV's cast—it felt overly performative.
"I really need saving—aren't you good at everything? Can you handle kids?"
"Heh, I actually can. What's going on? What's wrong with your kid?"
"Don't joke around—I'm filming! You'll cause a misunderstanding!" Huang Jingyu quickly warned.
Bai Liang's remark instantly excited the other cast members of "Let Go of My Baby"—they felt they'd just heard a juicy scoop.
But the guest star Zhang Bicheng, upon hearing this, suddenly changed expression and instinctively touched his own stomach.
Oh right—the previous two episodes' guest star was Hua Chen Yu.
Tsk, a parenting variety show~
Huang Jingyu: What the hell did I just see?!
He quickly withdrew his gaze, daring not to look further, and turned to the few other "fools" still eager to feast on his drama, silently vowing to stay far away from Zhang Bicheng during this episode.
Don't accidentally bump or scratch her.
At the same time, his understanding of Bai Liang's ability to stir up trouble reached a new level.
Great Immortal, Great Immortal, are you really a Great Immortal now?!
"You say you can take care of kids—what if I have a little one here who's lost his appetite and won't eat?"
"Easy. KFC Hospital specializes in pediatric anorexia. Go get a registration—it's cheap."
"What hospital?"
"KFC. Buy a kids' meal."
Awesome!
The crew of "Let Me Go, My Baby" secretly gave a thumbs-up, thinking: this guy really lives up to the rumors—total showstopper.
They knew this call wasn't pre-arranged; Huang Jingyu had just dialed a friend out of boredom.
And on the other end was Bai Liang—pure luck for the show.
Many shows that had invited him knew just how hard he was to get.
Unless he had a promotional obligation, he basically never appeared on variety shows—except for that one time with Rebi on "Running Man," Meng Jie's "Grade One," and that whole season of "Little Fresh Meat 3" with Na Zha.
In short, this call made "Let Me Go, My Baby" hit the jackpot.
But after hanging up, Huang Jingyu's mood grew strangely heavy—he'd accidentally uncovered a huge secret.
This made him off-balance for the rest of the filming.
Fidgeting, he secretly sent Bai Liang a message.
"The female guest on the show seems pregnant—it's making me feel restrained. What do I do?"
"Yours?"
"I didn't even know her before."
"Then it's tricky. You've fallen for a pregnant woman. I can't give you advice—I'm no Cao Cao."
"Fuck! I'm not either!"
"Then let her give birth! Let her give birth! Let her give birth!"
"You bastard, Bai Liang!"
After this banter, Huang Jingyu realized: huh, he wasn't nervous anymore.
After all, the baby in her belly wasn't his—why stress over it?
Worrying about accidentally bumping her was pointless; these "little monsters" on the show were far more likely to pull something like this.
The Great Immortal really knows his stuff! Better than a therapist~
Yeah, Huang Jingyu had actually seen a therapist after "Addicted"—felt a bit scared, figured he ought to get it checked.
The fees were ridiculously high, and it didn't seem to help much.
The therapist told him to adjust his mindset and control his emotions.
Later, after Bai Liang's "Great Immortal" reputation spread, Huang Jingyu just went straight to his best buddy for advice.
Bai Liang's "fee" was low—just a milk tea.
After taking the milk tea, he'd immediately cast his magic: change your Weibo profile picture—the old one was cursed you.
Bai Liang was, of course, pure bullshit—but after Huang Jingyu actually did it, he really felt less stressed.
Meanwhile, Bai Liang felt a quiet admiration: this kid's got something.
No wonder he's the type who plays soldiers and cops in films—this observational skill? Perfect for a sniper or detective.
He checked who the female guest was on Huang Jingyu's episode.
Zhang Bicheng.
Impressive. This kid got to eat the gossip two years before everyone else would.
From a donghua perspective, Miss, you wouldn't want your fans to find out you got pregnant before marriage, right?
After wrapping up Huang Jingyu's side of things, the crew finally brought a ladder and rescued Bai Liang and Shen Teng from the roof.
Han Han stared at the car parked on the roof and fell into silence and dilemma.
We'll need a crane to get it down, right?
Luckily, the crew's cameraman suddenly said: "Director, we've captured all the previous camera angles."
"Huh?!" Han Han blinked. "Really?!"
Correct. Bai Liang's cameo was essentially over.
After filming one more dialogue scene, his role as the driving school's nightmare ended.
What about the car?
Just leave it on the roof.
The driving school's later scenes can use it as a backdrop.
At dinner, Shen Teng looked at Bai Liang and said, as if helplessly: "If it's not necessary, don't meet again."
"No way. I love hanging out with the military academy's hunk."
"Who else have you tormented?"
"Yang Yang~"
"I'll raise a toast." Shen Teng shook his head with a smile, finally giving up—this kid really does precision strikes?
He now understood why no one in the entertainment industry's younger generation could outmaneuver Bai Liang.
Who could possibly outplay him?
Even when Big Brother Cheng was filming, at most it was just an in-the-moment reaction to certain scenes, and he was very cautious when it came to dangerous ones.
And what about Bai Liang?
This kid's clinical reactions are entirely based on his mood.
He says fly to the rooftop and he flies to the rooftop!
