Chapter 33: Regarding Weekend Self-Study
Lu Yan He asked, "Art exam? What are you testing for?"
"Directing or something like that, I guess," Li Pengfei said. "Anyway, with my grades being this rotten, I can only treat a dead horse as if it were alive. My dad even wants me to repeat a year. I'm honestly speechless. I've studied for so many years and my grades are just like this; would repeating a year really make them better?"
Lu Yan He was silent for a moment, then said, "That sounds quite reasonable."
"Right? That's what I told my dad, and he ended up blowing his top and yelling at me for an hour." Li Pengfei sighed. "To be honest, who doesn't want their grades to be good? It's not like I want my grades to be bad. If I can't absorb the material, what can I do? You know what I mean?"
Lu Yan He: "You sound pretty righteous about not being able to study."
"You think everyone is like you, saying you'll study hard and then immediately doing it?" Li Pengfei suddenly pulled his hands out again, clasped them behind his head, and said, "Studying is something that relies on talent. I don't have that talent."
"It's not really appropriate for you to say that, is it?" Lu Yan He retorted.
"Why?"
"How much effort does one have to put in to be able to say that this thing relies on talent? Have you ever tried?" Lu Yan He said bluntly.
Li Pengfei suddenly didn't know what to say.
Lu Yan He's words hit his weak spot—he really hadn't put in much effort, but wasn't that just something said off the cuff? Why was Lu Yan He being so serious?
Li Pengfei wanted to retort.
However, he really couldn't find words to refute someone like Lu Yan He, who had genuinely surpassed him after just a few days of effort.
"Wait, then let me ask you, which university do you plan to apply to?" Li Pengfei asked.
Lu Yan He shrugged and said, "We'll see. I don't know how well I'll do in the end. It would be best if I could get into Zhenhua or Yuming."
"I... I really don't know what to say. You really dare to dream." Li Pengfei was shocked by Zhenhua and Yuming, and for a moment, he was speechless. "Even others wouldn't dare to dream such daydreams, but forget it, reality will teach you a lesson."
Lu Yan He curled the corners of his mouth.
"But, tell me, Lu Yan He, why did you suddenly start studying?" Li Pengfei asked.
After asking, he waved his hand.
"I don't mean it like Chu Saiying does, although many people on the school forum are saying you couldn't make it in the entertainment industry anymore. Is that true? You rarely came to school before, and now you suddenly appear every day. Everyone finds it strange."
Lu Yan He nodded, not hiding it.
"That's pretty much the reason."
"Damn." Li Pengfei was shocked by Lu Yan He's honesty. "You actually admitted it. I thought what you told me last time was just angry talk."
Although Lu Yan He didn't know why Li Pengfei kept following him around asking questions, he didn't feel that much aversion toward him.
The bet also made Lu Yan He feel that Li Pengfei was actually a man of his word, not someone who would get angry and renege after losing.
In fact, Li Pengfei had good relationships with everyone in the class. Apart from being lazy and not studying, he only caused trouble for himself and didn't really affect anyone else.
After returning from the restroom, Chu Saiying was still surrounded by a group of people, looking like a star who had just encountered her fans.
Seeing this scene, Li Pengfei suddenly teased, "When you go out, are your fans as enthusiastic about you as they are about her?"
Lu Yan He: "…It's been a long time since I was enthusiastically recognized by fans."
Li Pengfei's mouth twitched: "Is it that miserable?"
"Yeah."
"Tsk, your entertainment industry isn't easy to survive in either." Li Pengfei glanced at Lu Yan He's face. "I thought that as long as you had a pretty face like yours, you could just lie back and make money."
Lu Yan He: "If you don't know how to talk, then don't talk, you little dark-face."
In all fairness, Li Pengfei wasn't very dark; it was just that he played ball outside every day, tanning himself to a wheatish color, especially his face, which was several shades darker than the average person. Standing next to Lu Yan He, he looked even darker by comparison.
"Who are you calling a little dark-face?" Li Pengfei exploded, his eyes unfriendly.
"Then who are you calling a pretty boy?" Lu Yan He immediately retorted.
Li Pengfei was suddenly speechless.
Fine, he was the one who started it, so he lost the confidence to continue picking a fight.
At this moment, the class bell rang.
The commotion in the classroom caused by Chu Saiying's sudden return finally came to a temporary end.
In the afternoon, after school, Lu Yan He was packing his bag and about to leave when Lin Yu suddenly walked over and said, "We're planning to come to school for self-study this weekend. Do you want to join us? We can discuss any questions we have together."
Hearing this, Lu Yan He was a bit surprised and said, "Weekend self-study?"
"Yes," Lin Yu nodded. "If everyone studies together, there's more of an atmosphere for learning."
Lu Yan He frowned hesitantly.
For Lu Yan He, the problem of not being self-disciplined at home didn't really exist.
It was just that studying with Lin Yu and the others had its benefits; at least for some questions he couldn't figure out, he could really discuss them with Lin Yu and Chen Qin.
"Sure." Lu Yan He nodded after hesitating for only a few seconds.
Lin Yu smiled and said, "Great, then I'll have my mom prepare bento boxes for everyone."
"Hmm? Wouldn't that be too much trouble for your mom? We can just order takeout or go out to eat."
"It's fine. My family runs a restaurant anyway, so preparing bento boxes for everyone is just a small thing."
Lin Yu went back and said to Chen Qin, "He agreed."
Chen Qin, who had been nervously waiting for the news, immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Lin Yu asked curiously, "You've always been impatient with Lu Yan He, so why did you suddenly suggest studying together on the weekend?"
"Isn't it... like you said, we should repay him. Since he finally made progress, studying together on the weekend will allow us to continue urging him to actually study. Otherwise, who knows if he's reading books when he goes home?" Chen Qin immediately gave a high-sounding reason, not mentioning the bet he made with Li Pengfei at all. "Also, I feel that studying in the classroom is more comfortable. Every weekend when I study at home, my parents act like they're performing surgery in my room; they're afraid to even make a sound when walking, afraid of disturbing me. Sigh, although I know they're afraid of delaying my studies, the more they act like this, the more uncomfortable I feel."
Lin Yu smiled.
"You don't want to affect your parents, right?"
"It's all the same," Chen Qin said. "Besides, doing problems at home really doesn't feel as good as in the classroom."
Lin Yu said, "Got it. Let's study at school every weekend from now on."
Chen Qin: "Will your parents agree?"
"No problem. I would have gone to the library or a cafe to study on weekends anyway," Lin Yu said.
