Chapter 4: Roommates arguing, I'm eating melon

~7 min read 1,372 words

Lu Yan He opened the door and realized the noise outside was Yan Liang and Li Zhibai arguing.

If Yan Liang was in the second tier of popularity in the Fengzhi group, then Li Zhibai was in the first tier.

The key was that his family ran a company, his family background was good, he had money, and when he was in the talent show, his family spent a lot of money on marketing for him. After his debut, there was no shortage of marketing, and he had a hot search every month without fail—a "money-power" player among entertainment artists.

Nowadays, out of ten people who come to be artists, nine have good family backgrounds.

Without a certain amount of capital, you can't afford to be in this talent show artist circle.

Or like Lu Yan He, who got lucky—he was able to debut by the skin of his teeth because his life experience was too tragic, attracting a wave of fans who sympathized with him and voted for him.

But after he debuted, these fans slowly drifted away. After all, they didn't really like him as a person, so the feelings faded quickly.

And setting aside the "money-power," Li Zhibai was actually a person with quite a bit of personality charm. To use current words, he was very self-centered, did his own thing, no matter the occasion or what show he was recording, he didn't hide his emotions, and many people bought into that. Plus, he was very confident, even to the point of narcissism, so while many people hated him, a group of people also liked him very much.

He was considered a very controversial person.

"It's not like I didn't let you go to 'Supernova Games,' so why are you losing your temper at me?" Li Zhibai sprayed Yan Liang very unhappily. "Go settle the score with Zhou Ping'an."

"Supernova Games" was a variety show that Tencent Video was doing, imitating the Olympics to create a sports-themed program. It was very popular, and every year many young artists went on this show.

Yan Liang was indeed suitable; he was a fitness enthusiast himself and had strong athletic ability.

For the past two years, the company had arranged for Yan Liang to go, and this year was planned the same way. Why was Yan Liang suddenly not allowed to go?

Lu Yan He walked out of the room in confusion.

The two people arguing noticed him come out, glanced at him, and then withdrew their gaze.

Lu Yan He's presence was usually very low, basically the type who didn't speak much.

Yan Liang glared at Li Zhibai and said, "If it wasn't for you, this show was originally supposed to let me go. How did it become you?"

Li Zhibai looked irritable: "Go ask Zhou Ping'an. How the hell would I know? Do you think I want to go?"

Yan Liang got up angrily and left.

Li Zhibai kept a straight face: "Brain has a big illness."

Lu Yan He sat down in front of the coffee table and glanced at the wall clock; it was already noon.

Outside the window, the intense sunlight declared that today was a clear day with no signs of rain.

He scratched his head, feeling a bit of a headache, but today was Tuesday, and there were classes in the afternoon. According to the normal schedule, he should go to school.

Li Zhibai suddenly looked at him.

"Yan He, where did you go last night? I couldn't find you in your room."

Lu Yan He came back to his senses, said "ah," and before he could speak, Li Zhibai continued impatiently.

"Wasn't it your birthday yesterday? I bought you a gift. There, it's that box." Li Zhibai gestured to the box under the coffee table.

Lu Yan He took it out.

Huh, it was actually the latest model phone.

Li Zhibai looked disgusted: "Your phone screen was about to shatter into a spider web; it should have been replaced long ago. I bought you a new one."

Lu Yan He thought of his old, scrapped phone, and his eyes lit up.

"Timely rain."

"Huh?" Li Zhibai looked at him, not understanding.

Lu Yan He laughed: "I fell into the river yesterday, and my previous phone was scrapped. I was just worrying about it."

If he were to go buy a phone now, he wouldn't have the money—the money was in the old phone.

Li Zhibai sat up straight.

"You fell into the river?"

Lu Yan He nodded.

"When did this happen? Damn, you didn't come back all night yesterday because of this?"

"Yes, very miserable." Lu Yan He excitedly took out the new phone, went to the old phone, removed the card, and installed it.

Li Zhibai watched Lu Yan He excitedly turn on the new phone and said, "No, wait, wait a minute. You fell into the river, and then?"

"And then? Then I swam to the shore myself," Lu Yan He said.

"Don't you not know how to swim?" Li Zhibai asked.

"I don't—" Lu Yan He suddenly realized. From the original owner's memories, he really didn't know how to swim.

"I was lucky. There happened to be a piece of wood floating by, I grabbed it, and then I paddled to the shore." Lies came easily.

But Li Zhibai believed it.

He looked at Lu Yan He in surprise and said, "You're quite lucky. If it weren't for that piece of wood, wouldn't you..."

"Yes, without that piece of wood, I would have drowned." Lu Yan He's mood suddenly became heavy. No, he had already drowned.

Who pushed him into the river?

Lu Yan He frowned hesitantly.

Until now, he actually didn't have a very real feeling that he had almost been murdered—because the person who died wasn't the real him.

But if he hadn't transmigrated, the Lu Yan He of this world would have really died.

Li Zhibai patted Lu Yan He's back, full of surprised smiles, and said, "Awesome, Old Lu. Fortunately, you grabbed a piece of wood. Damn, you actually experienced such a thrilling thing."

Lu Yan He scratched his head, not knowing what to say.

Li Zhibai was impulsive, had a big temper, was spoiled by his family since childhood, and sometimes lacked a brain.

This was the original owner's impression of him.

Despite this, he was also the person the original owner was most grateful to.

Because only this person remembered everyone's birthday every year and gave gifts, and every gift he gave was exactly what Lu Yan He needed.

Including this phone.

He sighed and said, "Fortunately, I grabbed a piece of wood."

Li Zhibai said categorically: "A disaster survived, there must be future blessings. Let's go, I'm hungry, let's go out to eat."

Lu Yan He shook his head: "I have no money."

Li Zhibai clicked his tongue.

"When have you ever had to pay when going out to eat with Brother?" Li Zhibai waved his hand, "Brother will treat you to a big meal."

Lu Yan He: "..."

Passing by Yan Liang's room, the door was tightly closed.

Lu Yan He thought Li Zhibai would ignore Yan Liang directly, after all, the two had just had an argument.

Just as he was thinking this, Li Zhibai had already walked to Yan Liang's door and knocked three times.

"Yan Liang, let's go eat."

"Go eat your own!" Yan Liang said angrily through the door.

Li Zhibai immediately raised his voice: "Damn, I told you that crappy show has nothing to do with me, how long are you going to nag!"

Lu Yan He thought to himself, Li Zhibai's temper, he's probably going to be beaten by Yan Liang.

Yan Liang's door was slammed open.

He glared at Li Zhibai angrily.

Lu Yan He: "..."

It looked like he was really going to move.

Yan Liang glared at Li Zhibai: "Get out of the way! Blocking my door, how am I supposed to go out!"

Li Zhibai moved aside.

Yan Liang went to the door to change his shoes.

Lu Yan He, who had watched the whole process, continued: "..."

That's true, just angry, not moving his hands.
