Chapter 1747: The Fast-Growing White-Feathered Chicken Farm

~10 min read 1,847 words

Hidden deep within Tu Ying San Yi's soul, Jiang Ding was not simply dormant and concealed — at the same time he was conducting all manner of scientific experiments, comprehending the rules of this heaven and earth, testing various rule data and divine soul data, recording the results, and transmitting them back to the Ancient God world cluster at set intervals.

This was his dull life of lurking in a foreign realm.

Lurk, lurk, wait for fate to pass, until he met the being he wished to wait for — a living creature thousands of years hence.

The sun at noon, its light vicious.

Tu Ying San Yi stopped his work, found a shady spot, set out incense and a candle stand, and prayed in a low voice: "…Command all things, subdue demons and hold the mountains…"

Jiang Ding instantly cast his gaze over.

This was a prayer scripture, seemingly addressed to a god of extremely high status. In Tu Ying San Yi's memory he had long known it — just a hymn of praise, nothing remarkable. The only oddity was that it was overly long, overly complex.

These religions love to make a mystery of nothing — no surprise.

That had been Jiang Ding's original thought.

But now, his thinking changed at once.

As Tu Ying San Yi chanted the scripture, this heaven and earth changed along with him. Vast invisible spiritual currents gathered here through the omnipresent incense network, falling upon Tu Ying San Yi's ancestral aperture between his brows, beginning to baptize his divine soul and strengthen it.

This — was unmistakably a scripture for cultivating the soul.

And from the very start it had deceived Jiang Ding, making him completely overlook it, assuming it was nothing but ordinary religious prayer ritual.

Jiang Ding's face grew solemn as he fell into thought.

A long while.

"What is this,"

"a Gong Fa for cultivating the divine soul alone?"

Jiang Ding sank into contemplation, and slowly saw it clearly: "Drawing on the incense network, gathering spiritual currents, refining them — even mortals can refine them and strengthen the divine soul. No wonder these mortals can survive for years beneath this strange sun."

"This is plainly an entire procedure — the prayer scripture gathers spiritual currents, the sun tempers the divine soul…

but all the spiritual currents are used to strengthen the divine soul, not a single thread leaking into the body; even the divine soul itself is fixed in place, unable to display any miraculous power."

"This is why Tu Ying San Yi is a mortal."

"It is not that he has some unique opportunity — every mortal in this world is the same."

Jiang Ding gradually understood.

The stronger the divine soul, the more incense power it produces.

But the stronger one is, the more of a strong one, the more steadfast one's Dao heart — the less likely one is to sincerely worship certain gods, to kneel in true devotion.

Beings too weak are devout enough, but the quality and quantity of incense power they produce are unsatisfactory.

This is the contradiction.

The gods here seem

to have successfully resolved this contradiction.

In this world of the Divine Dao, generation after generation of selective breeding — every mortal can cultivate. Through the incense network, vast spiritual currents from heaven and earth are poured into mortals, driving their divine souls to grow ever stronger, and while they grow ever stronger, they are given no power at all.

On the surface, Tu Ying San Yi is a mortal.

But if one dissected his divine soul, one would find that, if those deliberately blocked-up crystal seas of consciousness were cleared away, a cultivator's divine soul at the third or fourth layer of Qi Refining would appear.

"This entire world is a farm."

"A chicken farm."

Jiang Ding seemed to grasp something: "One white-feathered chicken after another, trapped in cages. Every day the farmer pours feed through the inlet to fatten them. In just fifty years they can be sent to market — a harvest of divine souls at the fifth or sixth layer of Qi Refining. Occasionally one mutates into a divine soul at the eighth or ninth layer of Qi Refining, and in extremely rare cases even a Foundation Establishment or Jin Dan divine soul appears."

"This is a fast-growing white-feathered chicken farm."

"Above the fast-growing white-feathered chicken farm, there should be higher-grade farms for raising more expensive white-feathered chickens — ones possessing Nascent Soul, Soul Transformation, or even Dao Merging divine souls. These white-feathered chickens can live far longer before they are slaughtered."

"Worthy of a great-thousand-world-level god — breeding has reached the leading level of the endless starry skies…"

Jiang Ding's gaze turned cold.

Above enslaving people is treating people as livestock.

Raise, send to market, slaughter — efficient and brimming with the aesthetic of immortal-Dao technology.

These self-styled gods should pay the price they deserve for their deeds.

Jiang Ding's heart gradually calmed. He closed his eyes and continued comprehending the rules of heaven and earth.

Within heaven and earth, cause and effect shift, the myriad things unfold.

Unknowingly, several years passed.

A snap of the fingers — so brief a time — Jiang Ding opened his eyes once more and looked outward: "The node where cause, effect, and fate shift has arrived."

In the future he had calculated, the first step would appear here — the first step guiding him to appear before the Divine Son.

He, who commanded the Law-Destroying rule, possessed an extremely high priority in the deduction of heavenly secrets. Standing at a higher vantage, he could more easily see the future's heavenly secrets and cause-and-effect.

Unless a Supreme Being deliberately concealed things and laid traps, even a five-step limit-path Divine Son could not easily escape his calculations.

As for the possibility of a Supreme Being concealing and interfering with heavenly secrets?

"The Human Race's Heaven's Dao…"

Jiang Ding murmured.

In the surrounding heaven and earth, countless threads of cause and effect flashed and vanished — epic as a saga, surging as tides. Innumerable scenes of human living beings multiplying and thriving, of glorious splendor, of shameful survival, surfaced and faded.

This was the Human Race's Heaven's Dao.

Cold, cunning, heartless, icy and cruel —

?? everything exists for the existence of the human race.

This great-thousand-world heaven and earth of the Divine Dao brutally suppresses the human race's living beings — this is the price. The Human Race's Heaven's Dao has always been hostile, always seeking an opportunity.

Now, the opportunity has come. Countless blessings have appeared upon this newly arrived human living being.

In truth, even if this new human living being had not appeared, the Human Race's Heaven's Dao might not have been unable to turn the tables in the future — but the time would perhaps be exceedingly long, requiring one to wait until the gods themselves rotted before a true opportunity would appear; otherwise it would only be the same tragedy of slaughter repeated generation after generation.

Now, this new human living being has arrived.

The Heavenly Dao of the human race favored him.

This meant that this new human lifeform would encounter almost no obstacles in divining the secrets of Heaven, no fog to obscure the way—even a Supreme Being could not achieve such a thing.

This was the Heavenly Dao of the human race, the overlords of the Endless Starry Sky!

It offered no power whatsoever; it had always only offered a possibility, a future.

Knowing of such an existence, Jiang Ding swiftly formulated such a bold plan, and believed that he would encounter the Divine Child in the future.

"This sovereign truly misses you,"

"What is your name, Divine Child whom I have never met…"

Jiang Ding Qi said longingly.

He looked outward through Tu Ying San Yi's eyes.

It was now nighttime.

A campfire crackled as it burned, illuminating bright sparks.

The villagers of Kaoshan Village gathered together, looking angrily and fearfully at the center.

Bound there was a pretty-faced woman; around her were piled stacks upon stacks of firewood soaked in oil. The village's temple warden, a kindly-faced white-haired elder, raised a torch and sternly looked at the several hundred villagers around him, saying sharply: "Zhou Xiaocui actually dared to worship demons and monsters!"

"This is blasphemy!"

"She deserves death a thousand times over!"

"The gods only bestow upon us food, bestow upon us peace, bestow upon us life—and this wretched creature actually, actually blasphemed the gods!"

"What should we do?"

The temple warden asked kindly.

"Burn her!"

"Burn her!"

Roars came from the crowd, the masses seething with fury.

"Burn her!"

Tu Ying San Yi was also among the crowd, feeling a little sad, unable to bear it, yet he too angrily roared.

This was what his late parents had taught him—one must revere the gods.

Over these past years, he had been toiling at farming, barely scraping by, and was not very clear about the Zhou family's affairs; he only knew that Zhou Xiaocui had gone away for a fairly long stretch of time, and after returning had become somewhat strange, spouting odd talk all day long.

"Burn her whole family!"

"The whole family!"

"Her whole family are wretched spawn, they should—"

"Descend to the eighteenth layer of hell!"

Another person roared ferociously.

If a heretic who worshipped demons and monsters appeared in a village and was not dealt with swiftly, the entire village would suffer disaster, and in the future even their ancestors would descend to the eighteenth layer of hell.

"Burn her whole family!"

The masses seethed with fury, each villager beside himself with rage; the Earth God Temple was about to boil over.

The temple warden revealed a look of satisfaction.

He clapped his hands, and sturdy warriors pushed through the crowd, escorting terrified people out one by one—it was Zhou Ye and their entire extended family.

"Burn…"

Tu Ying San Yi's voice unconsciously grew quieter.

"Burn them!"

"Burn them…"

The villagers shouted fanatically.

Amid this extraordinary fanatical devotion, Zhou Ye's family was sent to the pyre; one by one their mouths were gagged, and they twisted in terror, yet could not struggle free in the slightest.

"Wretched creature, do you know your crime?"

The temple warden looked at Zhou Xiaocui and said with authority.

"Fools."

"You pigs and dogs!"

Zhou Xiaocui cursed loudly: "All the gods and Buddhas in the heavens are nothing but demons and monsters who devour our human race in disguise. You fawn like this, and in the end you'll only be sent to the gods' dining table—better that my family alone is clear-headed."

"My one day is better than your entire life!"

She showed not the slightest trace of fear.

"You wretched creature,"

"You are beyond saving!"

The temple warden's face darkened; the torch in his hand was thrown down, landing on the oil-soaked firewood pile.

A wisp of flame emerged, instantly igniting the entire pile of firewood, generating a raging great fire that engulfed the entire Zhou family; terrible wails and the crackling of bursting oil rang out.
