Chapter 23: Meeting Yoko in Yotsuba, the Yin-Yang Eye!
"Should we deal with these ghosts?" Li An asked again.
"No need. As long as ghosts don't actively attack humans, there's no need to eliminate them. After all, they were human in life, and eliminating vengeful spirits isn't our Onmyoji's responsibility; that's the Exorcist's task," Kurahashi Kyoko continued explaining.
Hearing her words, Li An finally remembered Zenin Maki had told him this.
The Land of Cherry Blossoms has three major organizations, each corresponding to one of the three major supernatural disasters.
Cursed Technique users are responsible for eliminating curses and Cursed Spirits.
Onmyoji are responsible for eliminating yokai and demons.
Exorcists are responsible for eliminating vengeful spirits and evil ghosts.
Under these rules, the three organizations generally do not interfere with one another.
Currently, the Cursed Technique users, due to Gojo Satoru's existence, have overshadowed the Onmyoji and Exorcists.
But the number of Cursed Technique users is too small, while the number of Cursed Spirits is too great, leaving Cursed Technique users in a state of constant high pressure.
The Zhoushulian Alliance also wanted to ask the Onmyoji for help; after all, the Onmyoji are numerous, and if they assisted in exorcising Cursed Spirits, the Cursed Technique users could find much relief.
However, due to government regulations, the Onmyoji Bureau did not agree.
They also have to deal with various yokai and demons, so naturally they are unwilling to divert energy to help the Cursed Technique users.
This made the Zhoushulian Alliance very angry, causing the two organizations to dislike each other.
In contrast, the Exorcists of the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Office work tirelessly.
Whether they encounter vengeful spirits, Cursed Spirits, demons, or other monsters outside, they do their utmost to eliminate them.
Even if their strength is inferior to the enemy, they will try every possible means.
This also resulted in the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Office having the highest casualty rate among the three organizations.
Li An found the Land of Cherry Blossoms' approach very puzzling; dividing things too finely can sometimes be counterproductive.
Since the Onmyoji are so numerous, they could easily mobilize some to work for the Zhoushulian Alliance.
Just like a company: if all employees are crowded into one department while others lack staff, the company will soon collapse.
Then there is the attitude toward ghosts: why wait until a ghost attacks a human and becomes a vengeful spirit before eliminating it?
By the time that happens, can the attacked human still survive?
It would be better to strike at the root and eliminate all ghosts wandering the human world!
However, Li An only thought this; he had no intention of stepping in to solve these problems.
Besides, this is the Land of Cherry Blossoms; if the dead are people from the Land of Cherry Blossoms, he simply doesn't care.
"Then let's ignore it and go buy some wagashi," Li An said indifferently.
"Mm!" Kurahashi Kyoko nodded.
Afterwards, the two walked together toward the shop selling wagashi.
However, a strange scene appeared: as Li An entered the shopping district, the ghosts that had been wandering seemed to sense something terrifying and were all frightened, scattering in all directions and fleeing far from Li An.
Seeing this, Kurahashi Kyoko's small mouth dropped open in surprise, her face frozen in a daze.
"You... what exactly are you? Why are these ghosts so terrified of you?" Kurahashi Kyoko asked, her face filled with shock.
"If I say I am not human, but a god, would you believe me?" Li An asked back with a smile.
"Impossible! There are no gods in this world!" Kurahashi Kyoko shook her head like a rattle drum, completely disbelieving.
The education she received since childhood told her there are no gods in this world!
Li An chuckled, posing a question: "Since this world contains mysteries, with ghosts, Cursed Spirits, yokai, demons, and reincarnation, why can't there be gods?"
Kurahashi Kyoko was stunned again.
That's right; if this world has all those things, then having deities is perfectly reasonable!
Seeing her pained expression of deep thought, Li An stopped teasing her.
"Don't think about it too much. Let's go buy some wagashi and head home early," Li An said, taking her small hand and continuing toward the shop.
Kurahashi Kyoko's small face flushed red; she did not pull her hand away but let Li An hold it.
As the two walked, ghosts scattered and dodged.
However, this scene was witnessed by a girl wearing a khaki school uniform.
The girl had a head of smooth, black hair, delicate features, and a beautiful appearance.
Her golden eyes were full of liveliness, though her dark circles were quite severe, making her look listless.
But this also added a touch of tragic beauty to the girl, making her look pitiful, as if one would want to hold her in one's arms and protect her.
When she saw the ghosts dodging out of fear of Li An, it was as if she had seen a savior.
"That person can definitely save me!" the girl thought with delight.
Without any hesitation, she quickly approached Li An.
As long as she got close to him, she wouldn't be harassed by ghosts.
Although the girl's actions were not obvious, Li An still noticed her.
In fact, not just him; even Kurahashi Kyoko had spotted the other party.
"Someone is following us," Kurahashi Kyoko transmitted via her Cursed Technique.
"No need to worry about her; let's see what she wants to do," Li An transmitted back.
"Mm!" Kurahashi Kyoko nodded slightly.
Soon, the two arrived at the shop selling wagashi.
Li An told Kurahashi Kyoko to pick whatever she liked; she could take as much as she wanted.
Kurahashi Kyoko was overjoyed, selecting a large bag full of them.
While she was buying wagashi, Li An glanced at the girl who had been following him.
One look, and it was a familiar face again.
"Those eyes—she must have awakened the Yin-Yang Eyes, and the highest grade at that." Li An saw through all of the girl's secrets in a single glance, and so recognized her identity.
Yotsuya Miko!
She's the female protagonist of *The Girl Who Sees*!
Just as he'd guessed, this Comprehensive Anime World had fused together many anime series—this was already the sixth one.
If it was Yotsuya Miko, then Li An has already understood why she was following him.
Because there were no ghosts around him!
The moment he pictured the anime scene of Yotsuya Miko being scared by a ghost into wetting herself, the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up slightly.
Since he'd run into her, he definitely couldn't let her slip away.
Besides, Yotsuya Miko was exactly his type.
Li An swept his gaze around, then looked toward a ghost in the distance.
With a flick of his finger, he directed a stream of cursed energy saturated with negative emotions into the ghost's body.
The next instant, the ghost went berserk.
Its body was stretched out without limit, and rows upon rows of arms sprouted from it.
In no time its appearance had become a human-shaped centipede, deeply unsettling.
The thing had already become a fusion of a vengeful spirit and a cursed spirit, its strength comparable to a Grade 2 Cursed Technique user.
Then, under Li An's control, the human-shaped centipede lunged straight at Yotsuya Miko.
Yotsuya Miko clearly noticed that thing too, and was instantly scared out of her wits; a stream of yellowish liquid trickled down from her snow-white thighs.
Seeing this scene, Li An himself felt he was being utterly disgusting.
