Chapter 442: Interesting Treasure
Kid the Thief stood with his hands in his pockets, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly into a confident smile. "Haha, how could something this exciting happen without me? Who knows, I might even find some interesting treasure." His eyes glittered with excitement, filled with anticipation for this adventure.
Haibara Ai crossed her arms over her chest and said coldly, "I hope you won't be too reckless. This mysterious organization isn't that simple." A trace of worry showed in her eyes, along with a deep wariness toward the mysterious organization.
The group drew a deep breath and carefully moved closer to the mysterious organization's stronghold. All around was deathly still; only their light footsteps stood out with unusual clarity in the silent night. The castle walls were covered in moss, giving off a damp, rotting smell, as if telling of the vicissitudes of time. Moonlight filtered through the broken windows onto the ground, forming eerie patches of light.
"Be careful, there are traps everywhere here." Li An reminded them in a low voice, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, not missing a single detail. His steps were light and cautious, each one seeming to test the ground.
Suddenly, Li An stopped walking. His gaze fixed tightly on the ground ahead, where there was an ordinary-looking stone slab, but he keenly detected something off about it. "Everyone stop, there's a mechanism here." His voice was low and tense.
The group immediately halted, staring tensely at the stone slab. Kid the Thief leaned forward curiously, wanting to take a closer look. "Oh? Let me see what interesting thing this is."
"Don't touch anything!" Haibara Ai hurriedly stopped him, her brows tightly furrowed, a hint of anxiety showing in her eyes. "This kind of mechanism is very likely trigger-activated; the slightest carelessness will bring danger."
Just then, a sinister laugh echoed from deep within the castle, reverberating through the empty corridor and raising the hair on one's neck. "Welcome to my territory. Did you really think you could break in this easily?" The voice of the mysterious organization's leader came from all directions, full of mockery and playfulness.
Li An's eyes instantly turned icy. He gripped the weapon in his hand tightly and said angrily, "Don't get cocky. Today is your end!"
However, just as his words fell, the ground beneath their feet suddenly began to shake violently. Sharp spikes burst from the ground, thrusting toward them. "Careful!" Li An shouted, swiftly pulling Guo Yao and leaping aside.
Kid the Thief, like an agile monkey, flipped in the air and easily dodged the spikes. Haibara Ai was not to be outdone either; she quickly took out a small device from her waist and fired an energy wave at the ground, temporarily halting the spikes' attack.
"This is only the appetizer. There's something even more exciting coming next." The mysterious organization's leader's voice rang out again.
Immediately after, the torches on the walls suddenly went out, plunging the entire space into darkness. In the darkness, it seemed countless pairs of eyes were watching them, chilling them to the bone. Suddenly, beams of laser shot out from all directions, moving so fast there was no time to dodge.
"Everyone scatter!" Li An shouted loudly. His figure flashed and vanished into the darkness, weaving through the gaps between the lasers with his keen perception.
Guo Yao breathed nervously, forcing herself to stay calm. Following the method Li An had taught her, she dodged the laser attacks. "Li An, where are you?" she called softly into the darkness..
