Chapter 588
Sunlight lazily spilled onto the city streets, yet Li An's heart felt not a shred of ease. Having concluded his clash with Nether, the brief respite had not made him forget the immense crisis brought by the world-line shift. To uncover the root of it all, he decided to head for the Future Gadget Lab, where perhaps lay the key clue to unraveling the mystery.
"An, are you really going?" Guo Yao tightly held Li An's hand, her eyes full of worry. Her fingers trembled slightly, and her voice carried a quiver too. "I heard SERN is looking for you everywhere; that place is too dangerous." Tears sparkled in Guo Yao's eyes; she feared Li An might meet with misfortune.
Li An gently stroked Guo Yao's cheek and said softly, "Yaoyao, I must go. Only by finding the cause of the world-line shift can we truly resolve the crisis. Trust me; I will be fine." His gaze was firm yet warm, trying to reassure Guo Yao.
Guo Yao nodded slightly. Although her heart remained full of worry, she knew Li An's resolve; she could only silently pray in her heart for his safe return. "Then you must be careful; I will wait for you to come back." Guo Yao's voice carried a slight sob.
Li An took a deep breath, turned, and walked toward the direction of the Future Gadget Lab. Along the way, his gaze scanned the surroundings alertly, missing no suspicious sign. As the distance to the lab grew shorter, his heartbeat involuntarily quickened.
When he finally arrived near the lab, he immediately sensed something amiss. The streets seemed calm, with pedestrians coming and going, but his keen intuition told him that countless eyes were hidden nearby. SERN agents had already filled this area; if he so much as slipped up, he would fall into danger.
Li An carefully hid in a corner, his gaze fixed tightly on the lab's entrance. He saw several people in black suits pacing back and forth at the doorway; their eyes were cold, and they gripped communication devices tightly in their hands, maintaining constant vigilance.
"It seems getting in won't be easy," Li An thought to himself. His brows furrowed, and a hint of contemplation showed in his eyes. He knew a direct assault would definitely not work; he must find a way to avoid these agents.
Just then, a familiar figure appeared in his line of sight. It was Okabe Rintaro, still wearing his usual white lab coat, his hair somewhat messy, and a hint of anxiety on his face.
"Rintaro!" Li An lowered his voice and called out to Okabe Rintaro.
Hearing the voice, Okabe Rintaro immediately turned his head and saw Li An hiding in the corner. Surprise flashed across his face, and he hurriedly walked over quickly.
"Li An, you've finally come!" Okabe Rintaro's voice carried a hint of excitement. "We have been waiting for you."
Li An looked at Okabe Rintaro and said helplessly, "Look around you; it's full of SERN agents. How can we get in?"
Okabe Rintaro's expression changed slightly; he glanced around, and a hint of tension showed in his eyes. "Damn, they really moved fast. But it's fine; I have a way." Saying this, he took a small device out of his pocket.
"This is a new jammer I invented. Once activated, it can disrupt their communication devices and temporarily cut off their contact." Okabe Rintaro said proudly.
Li An looked at the device, and a hint of hope flashed in his eyes. "Will it really work?"
