Chapter 707: Show Me What You've Got
The phantom was tall and imposing, its face twisted and savage, like a demon that had crawled out of hell. In its hand it gripped an enormous scythe, and every swing was accompanied by a shrill, grating wind.
Li An knew this phantom was no ordinary foe. He would have to give everything he had to defeat it.
"Come on, let me see what you've got!" Li An roared, his body shooting toward the phantom like an arrow loosed from its string.
The phantom refused to back down either, brandishing its scythe and meeting Li An in a fierce clash. Every collision was accompanied by a deafening boom, as if even space itself were trembling.
After a few exchanges, Li An realized he could not gain the upper hand at all. The phantom's power was overwhelming, and his strikes seemed to have no effect on it whatsoever. Li An's heart sank; he knew that if things went on like this, he would eventually lose. He had to find a way to turn the situation around.
Just then, he suddenly recalled his experience from previous trials. He remembered facing similar situations in those trials, and the reason he had been able to defeat his opponents back then was that he had adjusted his tactics in time and found their weak points.
Thinking of this, Li An clenched his teeth hard, his body tracing a strange arc through the air. Then, the instant the phantom swung its scythe again, he suddenly appeared at its flank, his weapon thrusting out like a bolt of lightning.
"Puchi!" A soft sound rang out as Li An's weapon successfully pierced the phantom's body. The phantom let out a wretched shriek, and its form began to blur.
Li An seized the chance to launch a fierce assault, every strike as violent as a raging storm. The phantom was driven back step by step under his attacks, finally dissolving into a puff of black smoke that scattered into the air.
Li An gazed at the scene before him, a surge of triumph welling up in his heart. He knew he had passed this trial successfully, and that he could now truly master the power of the Xukongzhi Sect.
Just then, the trial space suddenly began to collapse. Massive boulders crashed down from the ceiling, as if intent on destroying the entire space.
Li An's heart jolted; he immediately realized this was the trial's final stage. He had to get out of here fast, or he would be smashed into mincemeat by the falling rocks.
He grabbed Guo Yao's hand in one swift motion, then his body shot toward the exit of the trial space like a bolt of lightning. Just as they were about to burst through the exit, an enormous boulder crashed down from the ceiling, blocking their path dead.
Li An clenched his teeth hard, swung his weapon, and smashed it viciously into the boulder. But the boulder did not budge in the slightest, as if it had been forged from steel.
"Damn it! What do we do?" Guo Yao stared at Li An in panic, her voice trembling with fear.
Li An, however, did not give up. He stared fixedly at the boulder, trying to find its weak point. Just then, he suddenly noticed a hairline crack on its surface.
His heart stirred, and an idea struck him at once. With a sudden sweep of his hand, a powerful wave of energy burst from his palm and slammed hard into the crack on the boulder.
