Chapter 720: Staggering to Their Feet in the Void
Li An and Guo Yao swiftly launched a counterattack, their figures lithe and nimble as they darted between the black-robed figures, dodging his strikes. At the same time, they struck back, trying to find the black-robed man's weakness.
However, the black-robed man's strength was extraordinarily formidable, and their attacks seemed to cause him little real harm. Li An and Guo Yao began to feel unequal to the task, their figures staggering to their feet in the void.
"An, what should we do?" Guo Yao asked anxiously, a note of despair in her voice.
Li An drew a deep breath, looked at Guo Yao, his eyes flashing with a steadfast light: "Don't be afraid, Yao. We can definitely defeat him!"
As he spoke, Li An launched another counterattack, gathering all his strength and slashing a sword toward the black-robed man. Yet the black-robed man seemed able to foresee his attack and easily dodged the strike.
After the calm of the Void Divine Palace was shattered by a sudden roar, Li An and Guo Yao's hearts leapt straight to their throats. That roar was like the call of an ancient colossal beast, carrying endless majesty and terror, rising from the depths of the void and trembling their souls.
"Li An, what is that sound?" Guo Yao's voice trembled slightly as she nestled close to Li An's side, her eyes full of fright and unease.
Li An furrowed his brow tightly, his gaze sharp as an eagle's, piercing through the surrounding mist as he tried to pinpoint the source of the sound. "Not sure, but it's definitely no good. We have to be careful."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a massive black figure slowly emerged from the void, like a demon in the night, wrapped in endless darkness and oppression. Its form was enormous, wreathed in eerie black qi, and every breath seemed capable of swallowing the light around it.
"What is this thing?" Guo Yao cried out in shock; she had never seen such a terrifying existence.
Li An did not answer, his gaze locked tightly on that mysterious foe. He could feel that the aura this foe radiated was powerful enough to be suffocating — by far the strongest opponent he had ever faced.
"Careful, it's coming," Li An warned Guo Yao in a low voice, swiftly shielding her behind him while he himself went forward to meet the enemy head-on.
The mysterious foe did not seem in any hurry to attack; it simply hovered silently in the air, those dim, dark eyes seeming able to see straight into a person's heart, staring straight at Li An's soul.
"Who are you? Why are you blocking us?" Li An asked in a deep voice, his words echoing through the void, but receiving no answer at all.
Just then, the foe suddenly attacked. Its form flickered like a ghost and vanished, reappearing instantly before Li An, a massive black hand clawing toward him. Li An dared not be careless; he shot backward and at the same time threw a punch to meet it.
"Boom!" Fist met palm, erupting in a deafening crash. Li An felt only a tremendous force surge through him, his body uncontrollably sent flying backward, slamming hard into a nearby stone wall.
"Li An!" Guo Yao cried out in alarm, rushing to his side, her eyes full of worry.
Li An climbed up from the ground, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his gaze growing even more resolute. "I'm fine, I can still fight."
The mysterious foe gave Li An no chance to catch his breath and attacked again. This time it was faster, stronger, every strike carrying destructive force. Li An could only barely hold it off, his figure flickering ceaselessly in the void as he tried to find an opening to strike back.
