Chapter 238
Akai Shuichi Akai and Toru Amuro finally stopped fighting.
Both of them listened intently.
Mixed in with the sound of the wind was the sound of a military helicopter's propellers.
It should be very close by.
Could it be?
Akai looked up into the night sky and then raised his sniper rifle.
Through the night-vision scope, he saw a massive, pitch-black helicopter flying in, covered in various weapons.
Are those guys crazy? Are they really planning to pull something this big?
The military helicopter hovered above the aquarium, and Gin gave the order: "The ground is already surrounded by darkness; begin the descent immediately and snatch Curacao back!"
"Understood." Chianti, sitting in the cockpit, pushed the control stick forward, and the military helicopter slowly began to descend.
After hanging up Vermouth's call, Curacao sat back in her seat, staring blankly at the night sky through the pod's glass.
The sound of the helicopter's propellers grew louder in her ears.
As long as she waited, she could return to the organization and live the same life as before.
Curacao took a dolphin keychain out of her pocket and watched it quietly, a strange luster reflecting in her transparent eyes.
The military helicopter arrived directly above the pod Curacao was riding in and then began to descend slowly.
Chianti, sitting in the cockpit, moved the control stick while watching the indicator.
"Body control is good! 20 meters from the target; is this okay? I'm continuing the descent like this!"
"No problem!" Vodka pressed both hands on the two levers on the computer's touchpad: "Continue like this, just like this, we're almost there."
Vodka moved the joystick for the crane arm up and down, and the claws at the end of the arm opened and closed repeatedly.
Akai Shuichi Akai, holding his sniper rifle, aimed at the military helicopter.
He observed carefully through the night-vision scope, searching for a shooting point.
"This sniper rifle isn't enough to pose a threat. Damn it, am I just going to have to watch?"
Akai Shuichi Akai gritted his teeth, searching for a flaw in the helicopter.
He had to find a way to stop their actions.
But where was the weak point?
If he shot at the propeller section, he wouldn't be able to hit it accurately due to strong winds and other factors.
Akai Shuichi Akai shifted his position slightly and climbed onto the steel beam in front of him.
"I'll risk it!"
Just as Akai Shuichi Akai aimed and prepared to fire, a violent vibration suddenly occurred.
Akai Shuichi Akai, his body swaying, quickly used his sniper rifle as support to stabilize himself.
He looked up in surprise and saw a massive crane arm extending from beneath the military helicopter; the four claws at the end of the arm firmly gripped the steel beams at the top of the pod.
Accompanied by a clattering sound, the steel beams bent and then snapped, and the exposed top of the pod was firmly gripped by the claws.
The Ferris wheel shook violently, and the broken steel beams struck the LED screen, sending sparks flying.
"What's wrong?"
"What happened?"
The police officers standing by at the Ferris wheel all looked up in terror.
Confirming that the claws had gripped the pod securely, Gin smiled slightly.
Things were going unexpectedly smoothly.
In his heart, he felt a little bit of disappointment.
That Onmyoji hadn't appeared after all.
What a pity; the equipment he had gone to such great lengths to prepare couldn't be put to use.
However, no rush; I'll come looking for you soon!
Gin smiled and gave the order: "Retreat!"
"Understood!" Chianti pushed the control stick.
"Something is moving on the Ferris wheel at the eight o'clock position."
Korn, sitting to the side, suddenly spoke up and leaned his head out of the cockpit to look outside.
"Escaping police? Scan the pod with thermal imaging!" Gin frowned slightly.
Hearing Gin's instruction, Vodka began typing on the keyboard at his side.
The computer screen displayed the image of the inside of the pod captured by the thermal sensor.
Inside the blue pod, there wasn't a single person.
Curacao had long since run out, and Yuya Kazami had been tossed onto the grass below by Kaze Akaso.
"Boss, Curacao isn't in the pod!" Vodka exclaimed.
"What? Has Curacao... betrayed us?"
A cold expression appeared on Gin's face, and then he gritted his teeth and said: "Drop the pod immediately!!"
"Understood!" Vodka hurriedly typed on the keyboard, operating the touchpad.
A clattering sound rang out, and the claws gripping the pod opened to both sides.
The pod slid out of the claws, crashed through the track, smashed through who knows how many passages, and finally stopped in the center of the Ferris wheel.
"No way!"
Seeing the smoke erupting from the center of the Ferris wheel, Vermouth couldn't help but press her face against the window to look out.
The other people in the restaurant also crowded toward the window in surprise.
Vermouth sat back at the table and pressed the button on the communicator hanging on her ear.
"Gin, what happened? I saw over there..."
"Curacao is gone!"
"What?" Vermouth was shocked.
"Operation plan changed; eliminate Curacao."
Gin's frantic voice came through the headset.
"Isn't that too hasty? If she hasn't betrayed us..."
"Leaving the pod—is there any other reason besides running away?"
Gin hung up the call with Vermouth and issued a series of orders.
"FLIR activated."
"Find Curacao for me immediately!"
"Chianti! Retract the crane arm from the Ferris wheel. Korn! Prepare the ID-WS!"
"Understood!"
"Understood!"
Korn operated the control panel on the upper left, lowering the ID-WS heavy machine gun stored in the lower part of the aircraft.
Curacao, having escaped from the pod, landed on the passage below, then immediately flipped over the guardrail and moved toward the lower passage.
She looked down.
Near the long handle in the middle of the Ferris wheel, large amounts of thick smoke were constantly rising.
The military helicopter continued to circle and move around the Ferris wheel.
"Haven't you found her yet? Haven't you found Curacao yet?"
Gin began to grow restless and anxious.
Vodka carefully checked the image displayed on the infrared surveillance device.
On the black-and-white screen, white shadows were moving in three places inside the Ferris wheel.
As the focus expanded, Vodka frowned.
"There are three people... huh?"
Seeing the location of one of the people, Vodka shouted.
"Boss, there seems to be someone near the detonator!!"
"What?!"
