Chapter 244: Secrets Make Women More Beautiful
Calvados hadn't finished speaking when he suddenly froze.
Through his scope, he could see Vermouth's hands handcuffed behind her back.
Her fingers seemed to move, transmitting information in code: "Two minutes from now, rendezvous at the back door of the commercial building ahead."
Calvados hesitated for a moment. Without notifying Gin, he shouldered his sniper rifle and ran toward the back of the commercial building.
Akai Akai Shuichi watched Camel and the others leave. He leaned against the wall at the entrance of a small goods store, the muzzle of the gun in his hand pointed upward.
His deep green eyes remained fixed on the window from which the bullet had just been fired, his brow furrowed.
"The person who fired just now was a woman. Was it Chianti?"
"I heard she was one of the helpers Gin used in the previous attack on the Ferris wheel. If that's the case, Gin must be nearby too."
"If they are both aiming at me from the surroundings with sniper rifles, that would be troublesome."
Akai Akai Shuichi pondered, then suddenly raised his pistol and fired two shots in succession toward the muzzle flash where Chianti was, waiting for her response.
In the blink of an eye, half a minute passed. Akai Akai Shuichi did not see any response from the other side. His heart suddenly trembled, and he felt a vague sense of unease.
"But Camel is no weakling, and with Vermouth as a hostage, once a firefight starts, if I rush over to support, I will definitely get bogged down in a stalemate. They might all be dragged here and unable to escape. Unless..."
Akai Akai Shuichi suddenly thought of a possibility. He turned his head to look at Camel, who was running in the distance while dragging Vermouth, and his heart skipped a beat.
At the same time, Camel, dragging Vermouth, happened to escape to the front entrance of a commercial building.
*Swish. In an instant, the lights of the entire commercial building went out simultaneously.
Screams from countless people erupted in the darkness, creating chaos.
Camel was distracted by the sudden turn of events and turned his head to look.
In that split second, his grip suddenly loosened, and Vermouth had already broken free.
She slammed violently into the glass door beside her.
After the sound of shattering glass, Vermouth's figure disappeared into the dark commercial building.
Not long after, in the alley behind the commercial building.
Vermouth rushed out from the back door.
A car screeched to a halt beside her. The driver was covered up tightly, making it impossible to see their face.
Vermouth opened the passenger door and sat inside.
The car sped away, leaving the dangerous area.
Vermouth let out a long sigh of relief.
Thinking that Akaso Kaze had only helped her turn off the lights in the commercial building and opened a spatial gate leading directly to the back door, she couldn't help but feel that this deal was a bit of a loss.
Looking at the direction the car was heading, Vermouth was slightly stunned.
"Calvados, what are you..."
Vermouth turned her head and suddenly her eyes narrowed.
The person driving removed their disguise and smiled slightly at her.
"Vermouth, we meet again."
"Jodie! Why is it you?"
Vermouth was shocked.
Before she could make a move, a pistol was already aimed at her.
Half an hour later, the car stopped at the pier.
Jodie pointed her gun at Vermouth and brought her out of the car.
Looking at the moon in the sky emitting an eerie glow, Jodie said coldly:
"This is just as round as the moon in America twenty years ago, isn't it, Vermouth? Or should I call you Chris, or Sharon?"
Vermouth's eyes narrowed. "Who exactly are you?"
"Who am I?"
Jodie raised her finger and placed it to her lips.
"Remember? A secret makes a woman beautiful! That was the last sentence you left for me!"
"You said this to me, told me my father was asleep, let me stay by his side, and then burned down my house!"
Speaking of this, Jodie slowly narrowed her eyes, as if recalling those blurred, painful memories that sometimes woke her up from nightmares!
"Hoo."
Jodie took a breath and widened her eyes again.
"But, you didn't kill me back then. Perhaps that was the biggest mistake you made."
"I thought my mom and dad were asleep, and I wanted to do something for them, so I ran out to buy things!"
"Heh heh." Vermouth tossed her long golden hair. "So you were that little girl. A cute little sister."
"Little sister? That's right, twenty years have passed in a flash. In front of you, I really am just at the age of a little sister."
Jodie smoothed her glasses.
"Do you still remember these glasses?"
"Twenty years ago, in order to fake the scene and make it look like my father committed suicide, you put these glasses, which had fallen on the ground, on him."
"Unfortunately, you inadvertently left fingerprints on the lenses. If it were you now, you certainly wouldn't make such a mistake."
"After I caught you, I conducted a comparison. It's truly unexpected; that fingerprint was exactly the same as yours!"
A strange light flashed in Jodie's eyes.
"In other words, the person who killed my father twenty years ago was actually you! This conclusion surprised me, because you are so young."
"So, are you Chris..."
"You really are worthy of being an FBI agent; just because of one catchphrase of mine, you've figured out so many things!"
The corners of Vermouth's mouth curled up slightly.
"No wonder Gin and the others were able to obtain my transport route in advance; it was probably you who provided it to them, wasn't it? Was your goal to take my life?"
Jodie gave a cold snort and said with an expressionless face:
"I've already heard that you reached an agreement with the FBI's top brass: as long as you are sent to the United States, you will agree to become a witness."
"If you are rescued by the organization, you remain a high-ranking member, but if you truly reach the United States, you can successfully break free from the organization's control and become an FBI witness."
"You really are worthy of being the thousand-faced witch, Vermouth, having even prepared an escape route. It's just a pity that you probably didn't expect to fall into my hands."
"Heh." Vermouth laughed.
"I have more than one escape route."
"Did you think I would really get into the car without confirming the driver's identity?"
"I knew it was you a long time ago; I let you take me away on purpose."
"And what could be easier to escape a dangerous place than having an FBI investigator lead the way?"
"As for now..."
A gust of wind blew by, Vermouth's long golden hair fluttering with the wind, a smile of certain victory appearing on her face.
"Do you think I would have come with you alone? Little sister, you miscalculated."
She extended her fair right hand, forming it into the shape of a gun and aimed it at Jodie.
"Our reunion after twenty years ends here; it's time to say goodbye! Come on, give me a smile and thank me for sending you to see that father of yours who is far away in heaven!"
At the same time, on the high rooftop, Calvados's sniper rifle was aimed at Jodie.
Seeing Vermouth's posture, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and he pulled the trigger.
Bang.
The bullet spun as it flew out of the muzzle, passed through a small, pitch-black door that had suddenly appeared, and then flew out from another door in reverse, drilling into the space between Calvados's eyebrows.
The smile on Calvados's face hadn't even faded when a spray of blood mist exploded from the back of his head.
The luster in his eyes vanished instantly, his body went limp, and he slid down along the slanted roof.
Looking at the falling corpse, Vermouth's face turned white instantly.
She screamed in shock: "Cal?"
"So that's how it is."
Just as Vermouth finished speaking, a door opened in front of her.
A tall figure walked out.
"So that guy's name is Cal! A sniper rifle, a shotgun, and three handguns—I thought he was an arms dealer?"
Different firearms floated around him, thin spider threads guiding them, all aimed at Vermouth simultaneously.
