Volume End Summary

Sigh~~

Take a deep breath, light a cigarette, and have a good long chat with the brothers.

I've been holding it in for quite a while.

I've always wanted to find a chance to talk about the plot with the brothers, and I guess the moment has finally come.

How should I put it

Compared to the Eastern Han volume, the Warring States volume really was a lot harder to write.

Not only because this stretch of history has long been etched into people's hearts, but also for various other reasons.

No matter how I write it, I can't possibly satisfy everyone.

And the author just happens to be someone who's easily affected — how should I put it — the pressure of writing this volume really did weigh the author down.

In my original conception,

honestly I hadn't thought that much about it. My very first idea for this volume was to pull together a large ensemble cast around one core expectation.

But how should I put it — I can only say I overestimated my own skill.

A large ensemble cast is a difficulty I just couldn't handle.

That led a lot of people to flame me for padding at the start. I could only adjust, return to my old Spring-and-Autumn brushwork, revise the specific plot, and refocus the spotlight on the Gu clan.

Setting aside whether it was well-written or not, I can only say there was at least some sincerity.

I wonder if the brothers noticed — actually, the whole arc of Gu Xi's later years together with this stretch of Warring States plot forms one whole.

In the original conception,

the reform ideas Gu Xi put forward — Gu Chen would be the one to carry them out.

This stretch was meant to emphasize the family's inheritance.

Not just on the surface level of assets, reputation, and status, but also the inheritance of certain ideas and spirit — to make the whole clan feel more flesh and blood.

As for this stretch of plot,

when I was conceiving it before I even opened the book, I'd already set down the specific outline.

The Three Revivals of the Great Han is the main theme.

It's just that for the decline of the Eastern Han and then the end of the chaos, there were originally two plot directions.

The first plot direction was — Gu Xi establishes Liu Bei during the Yellow Turban uprising, changes the national policy, but unfortunately dies a natural death; after his death, the world falls into great chaos, and Gu Chen sweeps the realm clean.

The second is the current approach, placing greater emphasis on the inheritance of Gu Xi's ideas, with Gu Chen carrying them out.

These are the two plot directions I mentioned to the brothers before.

From the very first setting,

Gu Chen was always a figure who would "fight until no one in the world dares call himself sovereign."

I'd dropped a lot of hints before — including what I said in the last volume's afterword, 【Rising from ruin, reviving from extinction】, including declaring myself a fan of Brother Dong.

That was hinting at 【Three Revivals of the Great Han】, and at Gu Chen's identity positioning as one who fights until no one in the world dares call himself sovereign.

This stretch of plot is bound to rub readers who don't like Shu Han the wrong way.

But how should I put it

creating history still needs a bit of conviction.

For many small matters I'll still listen to the brothers' suggestions and revise the outline and plot.

But for the big picture, only by sticking to it can I truly see it through from start to finish.

Same old line.

No matter what, I'll do my best to write this book well and leave it with a perfect ending.

Mm. This time I won't drop any hints.

Actually, everything that needed saying I'd already said to the brothers in the author's notes before.

I definitely won't keep choosing to make things up out of thin air.

The Flame Han arc won't be too long — besides the foreign affairs, there'll also be a bit of modern-change plot, and a pretty big change at that.

Everything everyone's looking forward to is in the next volume's plot.

The volume title is "Flame Han's Splendor, Glory Through Ten Thousand Generations."

Mm. That's about it.

And then the usual — asking for monthly votes.

Thanks for the support, brothers — Yu is deeply grateful.
