Chapter 125: Preparation Complete, Launch!

~6 min read 1,185 words

Li Shouzheng nodded: "The enemy is very cunning, but fortunately our Radar Station has been monitoring them around the clock." He turned to the communicator beside him,

"Notify the Triangulation System immediately and prepare to receive signals. At the same time, order all anti-aircraft units to enter the highest state of combat readiness."

The communicator quickly picked up the phone to relay the order.

Xiao Wang ran from the Radar Station into the command post, his face full of excitement:

"Engineer Li, the Radar System is working normally! The enemy plane formation is clearly visible! This is the first time I've seen the radar actually come in handy!"

Li Shouzheng was also very excited: "This is just the first step. What follows is the real test—whether we can accurately locate and shoot down the enemy planes."

As the enemy plane formation continued to approach, the Triangulation System also began to receive the roar of engines.

"East Station reporting: Sound signals from enemy planes received!"

"South Station reporting: Signal is clear, currently recording the time difference!"

"West Station reporting: Sound wave characteristics locked, starting calculations!"

After receiving the data from the three stations, the calculator at the command post performed calculations on the spreadsheet and quickly arrived at the result:

"Target location: azimuth 287 degrees, elevation 42 degrees, distance 120 kilometers, margin of error 400 meters!"

"It's amazing!" a young officer couldn't help but exclaim, "It really can calculate the exact location of the enemy planes!"

The veterans also looked at each other, clearly both surprised and excited by this "hit them without seeing them" method of warfare.

Li Shouzheng had no time to immerse himself in the sense of achievement and immediately turned to the rocket launcher commander:

"The enemy flight path has been predicted; set the launch parameters according to the calculation sheet. Remember, our targets are those large bombers; they are slower and easier to hit."

The atmosphere in the command post was tense and fervent; everyone could feel the arrival of a historic moment.

High in the sky, the enemy plane formation was flying at a speed approaching the speed of sound.

The sun had just crossed the horizon, draping the silver fuselages in a layer of golden radiance.

"Truly perfect weather," the captain of the B-29 Bomber said to the communicator, "Visibility is excellent; bombing accuracy will be very high."

"Is there any movement from the Long Country ground forces?" the communicator asked.

"None at all," the captain laughed, "I reckon they haven't woken up from their dreams yet. By the time they react, we will have already dropped our bombs and be on our way back."

A relaxed and confident atmosphere permeated the entire cabin.

The pilots chatted, discussing the victory party after the bombing and the potential rewards they might receive.

The escorting F-86 Fighter planes circled around the bomber formation, and the pilots were even more unscrupulous in showing off their flying skills, diving and climbing, as if performing stunts.

"Hey, watch this!" an F-86 pilot shouted over the radio, then immediately piloted his fighter to perform a beautiful roll, "I'm saving this move for those junk planes of Long Country!"

"If they even dare to take off!" another voice responded, triggering a burst of laughter.

Just as the enemy plane formation was immersed in arrogant confidence, the Long Country anti-aircraft units on the ground had already completed all preparations.

"Rocket launchers ready!" the fire commander reported, his voice revealing tension and excitement.

General Zhou looked at Li Mingyuan, and after receiving a confirming nod, took a deep breath: "Fire!"

"First batch of rocket launchers, fire!"

Following the order, twelve modified Tianluo Rocket Launchers sprayed orange-red flames almost simultaneously, and twelve Rocket Shells loaded with Tungsten Alloy Fragmentation Warheads rushed toward the high sky with a whistling sound.

These Rocket Shells were different from standard models.

Their warheads were larger, and their tails were equipped with simple Pre-guided System wings, which could adjust the flight trajectory according to the parameters set before launch.

Although they lacked real-time guidance capabilities, this "Pre-guided System" had already greatly increased the hit rate.

"Second batch of rocket launchers, fire!"

Another twelve Rocket Shells soared into the air, forming a dense web of fire.

Li Shouzheng stood at the entrance of the command post, looking up at the rocket trajectories cutting through the sky, feeling both nervous and expectant.

"Triangulation System, continue tracking the enemy plane positions!" he ordered loudly, "Be ready to adjust launch parameters at any time!"

The soldiers at the anti-aircraft positions all looked up at the sky, expecting a miracle to happen.

Many were seeing such a large-scale rocket salvo for the first time; beyond the shock, some held doubts: "Can these Rocket Shells really hit such high-flying enemy planes?"

They soon got their answer.

High in the sky, the enemy plane formation was still flying without any precautions, completely unaware that danger was approaching.

"Estimated arrival over the target in 20 minutes," the navigator of the B-29 Bomber reported, "Starting to prepare the bombing system."

The captain nodded and was about to issue the preparation order when, suddenly, the alarm in the cabin rang out piercingly!

"What's the situation?" the captain was startled.

"Radar shows... multiple unidentified objects approaching rapidly!" the Radar Operator shouted in terror, "It looks like... it's artillery shells!"

"Impossible!" the captain flatly denied, "The Long Country people don't have such advanced artillery technology! It must be a radar malfunction!"

Just as he finished speaking, a massive explosion erupted on the left side of the formation!

A Rocket Shell exploded in mid-air, forming a dense cloud of Tungsten Alloy Shrapnel.

An F-86 Fighter happened to fly into this "death zone" and was instantly torn to pieces by countless Tungsten Alloy Shrapnel, turning into a fireball and falling from the sky!

"Holy crap!" the captain of the B-29 widened his eyes, finally realizing the reality of the danger, "Evasive maneuvers! All planes, evasive maneuvers immediately!"

But it was too late.

More Rocket Shells exploded one after another, forming a dense Metal Storm in the high sky.

Those fighter planes that had once proudly soared in the sky were now like they had fallen into an inescapable nightmare.

Although the F-86 Fighter was fast and had good maneuverability, it still appeared incredibly fragile when facing the overwhelming Tungsten Alloy Shrapnel.

One fighter after another was hit; some exploded on the spot, while others fell while emitting black smoke.

"This is impossible! This is impossible!" an F-86 pilot screamed hysterically over the radio, "How could they have this kind of weapon?!"

Because of its massive size, the B-29 Bomber became the easiest target to hit.

The left wing of the first B-29 was struck by dozens of pieces of Tungsten Alloy Shrapnel, tearing apart instantly.

The massive Bomber lost its balance and began to spiral downward, finally exploding on the ground to form a huge Mushroom Cloud.

"Emergency evasion! Abort mission!" the B-29 formation commander issued the final order, "All aircraft return to base immediately!"

But for many of the aircraft, this order had already come too late.
