Chapter 150: The Powerful Radar

~8 min read 1,410 words

On the oscilloscope, wave after wave pulsed steadily.

"It's a success..." someone said softly, their voice trembling with excitement.

Immediately, the entire laboratory erupted in thunderous cheers. People hugged and high-fived each other; some even wept with excitement.

"We did it! The core of Long Country's first transistor Computer!"

"I can't believe it, we actually did it!"

"Wait, the vacuum tube Computer over there has lit up too!"

Just as everyone was focused on the transistor computing core, the vacuum tube Computer on the other side had also quietly completed its assembly and testing.

This behemoth occupied an entire hall; thousands of vacuum tubes were arranged neatly, and the cooling system hummed, emitting astonishing heat.

Two computers running simultaneously—this was a spectacular sight, unique even in the world.

On the day of the launch ceremony, high-level leaders from the Military, the Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Industry all attended in person.

Li Mingyuan stood between the two computers, appearing exceptionally small, yet exceptionally dazzling.

"Today, I will demonstrate the basic functions of these two computers," Li Mingyuan's voice was calm and confident, "starting with the vacuum tube Computer."

He walked to the console and entered a complex integral equation.

The machine immediately roared to life, and thousands of vacuum tubes flickered with blue light, as beautiful as a starry sky.

The entire hall fell into Silence, everyone holding their breath as they stared at the massive machine.

One minute later, the printer began to work, and lines of results were printed out.

A mathematics expert was invited onto the stage to verify the calculations.

The old man wore his reading glasses, carefully checking every step of the calculation, then suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with disbelief.

"The results are completely correct! There isn't a single error! And it's a hundred times faster than ten of us mathematicians calculating overnight!"

The entire room erupted in thunderous applause that lasted for a long time.

Next, Li Mingyuan demonstrated the transistor Computer.

This time, he entered an even more complex matrix operation problem, the kind that usually takes a team of mathematicians several days to complete.

The transistor Computer ran quietly, without the roaring sound of the vacuum tube Computer, yet it provided the answer in just thirty seconds.

The verification results were once again completely correct.

Everyone present was deeply shocked; many even forgot to applaud, just standing there blankly, their eyes filled with incredulity.

"Comrades," Li Mingyuan's voice cut through the applause, "this is only the first step. Next, we will apply these technologies to the actual battlefield, develop real fire control systems, and raise our national defense power to a whole new level!"

……

Deep in the Taihang Mountains, in a shaded valley.

At three in the morning, the valley was in complete Silence.

Suddenly, a low humming sound broke the stillness, and immediately after, a piercing green light swept across the night sky.

"Target detected, distance 53 kilometers, altitude 8200 meters, speed approximately 530 kilometers/hour, heading 12 degrees east of northeast." The report sounded in the temporarily erected tent.

The tent was crowded with people; over a dozen individuals in military uniforms and white lab coats were gathered around a strange piece of equipment.

Above the equipment was a rotating disc-shaped antenna, connected below to a box filled with electronic components; in front of the box was a green fluorescent screen, on which a bright light spot flickered.

This was the prototype of the new Duopule Maichong Radar developed by the "Red Star Electronic Research Institute" Radar Group.

Li Mingyuan stood behind the crowd, arms crossed, observing the precisely moving light spot on the screen, the corners of his mouth slightly raised.

When he proposed developing a Radar capable of simultaneously measuring distance, altitude, and speed, many experts thought he was daydreaming.

And now, the dream had become reality.

"Report the data again." Radar Group Group Leader Lao Zhou stared fixedly at the screen, his tone filled with tension and anticipation.

"Target distance 53.2 kilometers, altitude 8210 meters, speed 582 kilometers/hour, heading 11.8 degrees east of northeast."

"The difference is within five thousandths, the precision is perfect!" Lao Zhou's cheeks were flushed with excitement; he turned to Li Mingyuan, his eyes flashing with unbelievable light.

"Mingyuan, your design is too divine! Traditional Radar can only roughly measure distance; it's completely unable to measure speed and altitude. This... this is simply a qualitative leap!"

Li Mingyuan smiled without a word.

"Let's conduct another test, this time with a more complex target." Li Mingyuan said.

Ten minutes later, three planes appeared in the sky, flying at different altitudes and speeds, and changing directions from time to time.

This was a complex target arrangement specifically for testing Radar performance.

Traditional Radar would be helpless in this situation, with signals overlapping and impossible to distinguish.

But on the new Radar's screen, three independent light spots were clearly visible, with detailed data marked next to each one.

"Three targets tracked simultaneously, data clear and without interference, this... this..." Radar expert Lao Liu was speechless; he was a top-tier talent who had studied abroad in the Polar Bear country and knew Radar technology like the back of his hand, but at this moment, facing this device, he was completely shocked into incoherence.

"The most critical part is the anti-interference capability," Li Mingyuan said, pointing to the screen, "Traditional Radar fails when encountering metal foil interference, but our Duopule Maichong Radar system can easily distinguish between metal foil and real targets."

Lao Liu slapped his thigh hard: "My goodness! This function is too critical! I remember when they were conducting exercises in the Polar Bear country, the enemy scattered a handful of aluminum foil, and their Radar was like a blind man, unable to find north."

As they were speaking, a middle-aged man wearing a general's uniform walked into the tent, and everyone immediately stood at attention and saluted.

This was General Wang, the Group Leader of the technical observation team sent by the Military, responsible for evaluating the combat value of the new Radar.

"No need for formalities, continue the test." General Wang waved his hand, but his gaze remained fixed on the display screen, his eyes full of curiosity.

"Chief, you've come just in time, we are conducting a complex target test." Li Mingyuan explained,

"These three light spots represent three different planes; we can not only track them simultaneously, but also measure their distance, altitude, speed, and even heading changes in real-time."

General Wang widened his eyes and asked skeptically: "Really? How high is the precision?"

"The error is less than five thousandths, at least 5 times higher than the precision of old-style Radar." Li Mingyuan answered confidently.

General Wang was speechless for a moment; he was a technical expert transferred from the front line and knew well the critical role of Radar in modern warfare.

No one knew better than him what a Radar System capable of simultaneous ranging, speed measurement, altitude measurement, and multi-target tracking meant in actual combat.

"There is one more important function, please look." Li Mingyuan made a gesture, and the Radar Operator immediately adjusted the equipment parameters.

The image on the screen suddenly became much clearer, and the clutter around the three light spots almost completely disappeared.

"What is the situation?" General Wang asked curiously.

"Anti-interference mode," Li Mingyuan explained, "Even if the enemy uses chaff, electronic jamming, or even terrain cover, our Radar can still precisely lock onto the targets."

General Wang's breathing became noticeably rapid; he was someone who had personally experienced actual combat and knew deeply how easily traditional radar could be jammed in a complex electromagnetic environment.

"Test the small target detection capability again," General Wang ordered, his tone unable to hide his excitement.

Soon, several small reconnaissance aircraft appeared in the sky, their size only one-fifth that of a standard fighter jet.

Such small targets are a nightmare for traditional radar, often being missed or misidentified.

To everyone's surprise, the new Radar not only captured these small targets clearly but could also precisely measure their various parameters and even distinguish their aircraft model characteristics.

General Wang was so excited that his hands were trembling; he grabbed Li Mingyuan by the shoulder.

Taking a deep breath, he made a decision: "Report to the superiors immediately and apply to put this system into small-batch production. No, not small-batch—full replacement! I want every air defense position to be equipped with this Radar!"
