"This is impossible..." Hamilton muttered to himself, "Long Country cannot possibly have this kind of anti-aircraft capability."
But the facts were right before his eyes; he could not help but believe them.
The ones he sent were all the most elite reconnaissance planes, equipped with the most advanced equipment, with flight altitudes far exceeding ordinary fighter jets; theoretically, they should have been able to complete the mission safely.
Yet they just... disappeared.
"Sir, a call from the rear," the adjutant said cautiously, "Headquarters... is very dissatisfied."
"I fucking know Headquarters is dissatisfied!" Hamilton roared, then immediately realized his loss of composure, took a deep breath to calm his emotions, "Put it through."
On the phone, the voice of the Headquarters officer was full of sarcasm and anger:
"Hamilton, I am starting to doubt your command ability. First, the loss of twenty-three fighter jets, and now four reconnaissance planes? What on earth are you doing?"
Hamilton clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms:
"Sir, the situation is more complex than we imagined. The Long Country military is indeed equipped with some kind of highly efficient Anti-aircraft System, capable of detecting and shooting down our high-altitude reconnaissance planes. This can no longer be explained by a simple command error."
"So you are sticking to that ridiculous claim? Long Country has some magical weapon?" The other party scoffed,
"Perhaps you should consider whether your pilots are undertrained, or if there is a problem with your tactics?"
Hamilton took a deep breath, suppressing his anger: "Sir, my pilots are all top-tier, and the tactics have been repeatedly verified. The fact is, Long Country possesses some kind of anti-aircraft capability we have never encountered before."
The other end of the phone was silent for a moment, the tone softening slightly: "Fine, Hamilton, assuming you are right, then where do you think these weapons came from? The Polar Bears?"
"Not sure, sir. Logically, the Polar Bears do not have this level of technology either, at least our intelligence department has never reported it. But the possibility of Long Country developing it themselves... is almost zero."
"Then someone is supporting them," the other party's voice became serious, "This matter is getting more and more complicated. I will report to the superiors and simultaneously send intelligence personnel to investigate thoroughly. Before that, stop all air strikes against the Long Country military, switch to high-altitude reconnaissance, and try to preserve your strength."
Hanging up the phone, Hamilton let out a long sigh of relief.
At least Headquarters was starting to face the problem squarely, instead of blindly blaming his command errors.
"Sir, the intelligence department sent some news," the adjutant walked in and handed over a document, "According to reports from agents in Sun Country, the Long Country military is indeed equipped with a new type of man-portable anti-aircraft rocket, with an appearance completely different from ours, and the combat effectiveness is astonishing."
Hamilton quickly browsed the document, his brow furrowing tighter and tighter:
"It says here... an ordinary soldier can operate it after simple training, and the shoot-down rate exceeds 70%? This is impossible!"
"The agent saw it with his own eyes, sir. He also said the Long Country military has some kind of Multi-barrel rocket launch system, capable of covering a large area of airspace simultaneously, forming a 'death zone'."
Hamilton put down the document, his expression grave. These descriptions matched Wilson's testimony; it could not be a coincidence.
The Long Country military indeed possessed some kind of revolutionary Anti-aircraft Weapon System.
This realization made him feel a chill.
This meant the battlefield landscape of Sun Country might have completely changed; the air superiority the Di Guo was proud of was no longer overwhelming.
If Long Country could deploy this kind of Anti-aircraft System to the front lines on a large scale...
Hamilton dared not imagine the consequences.
"Adjutant, contact the intelligence department immediately; I want to know the source, quantity, and distribution of these Long Country weapons. At the same time, notify all fighter squadrons to reformulate tactical plans and suspend all low-altitude combat missions."
He walked to the map in the operations room, staring at the area in northern Sun Country marked as "Long Country Military Activity Zone."
That place should have been the hunting ground for the Di Guo air force, but now it had turned into a testing ground for Long Country's anti-aircraft weapons.
The situation was spiraling out of control, and he still had no plan to deal with it.
……
In Mocheng, inside a secret conference room of the Kremlin, the high-ranking officers of the Polar Bears sat around a huge round table, the atmosphere heavy.
"Comrades," a burly general knocked on the table, "Today we are going to discuss a strange phenomenon: the Long Country military on the Sun Country battlefield seems to... have mastered some kind of highly efficient anti-aircraft technology."
"What anti-aircraft technology?" an officer with graying hair asked.
"According to our intelligence," the general opened a folder, "In the past week, the Long Country military has shot down at least twenty-seven fighter jets and reconnaissance planes of the Di Guo, including twenty-three 'Sabres'. Even stranger, the Long Country military's advance in Sun Country is exceptionally smooth, almost without encountering effective strikes from the Di Guo air force."
There was an uproar in the conference room.
Everyone knew the strength of the Di Guo air force; being able to shoot down so many advanced fighter jets in a short time was simply incredible.
"Wait, is this data reliable?" an Intelligence Officer in plain clothes questioned,
"We know the Long Country military's equipment all too well; most of it is still old stock from their civil war period, and their anti-aircraft capability is extremely limited."
"The data is correct," the general said firmly, "Our agents in Sun Country witnessed several air battles with their own eyes; Long Country indeed used some kind of advanced man-portable anti-aircraft rocket capable of effectively tracking Di Guo fighter jets. Furthermore, they also deployed a Multi-barrel rocket launch system, and the coverage effect is astonishing."
"This is impossible!" a military industry expert slammed the table and stood up,
"This kind of weapon system requires extremely advanced guidance technology and Fire Control System; the Long Country industrial level absolutely cannot produce it!"
"Unless..." an officer in a black uniform spoke slowly, and everyone's gaze immediately turned to him, "Unless it was provided by us."
The conference room suddenly went quiet. Everyone looked at each other, and no one dared to respond directly.
"But we have not provided any such weapons to Long Country," the general said cautiously, "At least, not through official channels."
The officer in black sneered: "Then someone provided it privately? Or could it be... Long Country developed a weapon system that surpasses ours on their own?"
This hypothesis was too ridiculous, causing a burst of low discussion.
"There is another possibility," the Intelligence Officer suddenly said, "Long Country might have obtained technical support from some... third party."
"Third party?" the general frowned, "Who could provide anti-aircraft technology more advanced than ours?"
The conference room went quiet again; everyone had their own guesses in their hearts, but no one dared to say it out loud.
"Regardless," the officer in black finally broke the silence,
"This situation deserves our high attention. If Long Country has truly mastered some kind of revolutionary anti-aircraft technology, and it did not come from us... then we need to re-evaluate the entire Yuandong situation."
The general nodded: "I suggest sending a technical delegation to Long Country under the name of 'aid' to observe the performance and principles of these weapons at close range."
"Agreed," the officer in black said, "But we must select the top experts, especially in the fields of Missile and Radar. I want to see what tricks Long Country is playing."
The Intelligence Officer added: "At the same time, we must strengthen our intelligence network in Long Country and closely monitor their military production. If they really have any technological breakthrough, we must know immediately."
When the meeting ended, the attendees left the room, each with their own thoughts.
On the surface, they are allies of Long Country, but deep down, no one truly believes that Long Country could achieve such a technological leap in a short period of time.
There must be something happening that they do not know about.
