Chapter 215: That Is Too Terrifying

~7 min read 1,207 words

Johnson gave a bitter smile: "Evidence? Are the wrecks of three armored regiments not enough?"

"They want samples, sir," the Intelligence Officer added, "the physical objects or fragments of that weapon, so they can analyze its structure and principles."

Johnson nodded and turned to the Chief of Staff: "Organize a special squad to attempt to collect the wrecks of that weapon from the battlefield. You must act carefully to avoid being discovered by the Long Country people."

The Chief of Staff saluted to accept the order, but his eyes were filled with worry—this was an almost impossible mission.

The enemy army's fear of the Long Country had now reached a level bordering on superstition; finding people brave enough to face that "Death Maker" was by no means an easy task.

Johnson stood before the window, looking into the distance, his expression grave.

……

In the Sun Country military camp, the atmosphere was unprecedentedly enthusiastic.

The soldiers gathered together, excitedly discussing that earth-shattering Victory. Those warriors who had once been suppressed by the enemy army to the point of being unable to lift their heads now had eyes flickering with the light of hope.

"Did you see it? Those tanks melted like candles!" a young soldier gestured excitedly, "The Di Guo bastards didn't even have time to run before they were burned to ash!"

"The Long Country's weapons are too powerful!" another soldier echoed, "I originally thought they were just bragging; I didn't expect them to be truly that strong!"

A veteran also couldn't help but join the discussion: "I've been in the war for so long, and I've never seen the Di Guo soldiers get beaten so miserably. Aren't they usually quite arrogant? Now they've gotten a taste of their own medicine!"

Laughter and exclamations filled the entire camp; the gloom that had once shrouded the soldiers' hearts was swept away, replaced by unprecedented fighting spirit and hope.

"With the support of the Long Country, we will definitely win!" a soldier shouted, drawing a chorus of agreement.

However, in this optimistic atmosphere, some people also revealed different emotions.

In the corner of an officer's tent, several Advanced Sun Country officers were whispering, their expressions complex.

"That weapon... is too terrifying," a Colonel said in a low voice, "It almost violates the basic rules of war. That isn't defeating the enemy; it is... annihilating them."

"Agreed," another officer nodded, "I have seen all kinds of brutal battlefields, but today's scene... is simply like hell descending. Those Di Guo soldiers, no matter what crimes they have committed, should not die in such a way."

"But this is war, isn't it?" a third officer retorted, "Didn't the Di Guo people use Napalm and Incendiary Bombs too? They burned our villages and slaughtered our compatriots; now they are just tasting their own bitter fruit!"

The tent fell into silence, and everyone was lost in their own thoughts.

"I am wondering," the Colonel finally spoke, his voice very low, "if this kind of weapon continues to develop, where is the limit of war? Today it is a Cloud Bomb, but what about tomorrow? Will even more terrifying weapons appear? By then, will humanity push itself toward extinction?"

No one could answer this question, and an inexplicable sense of oppression filled the air.

Jin Zhengzhe walked into the tent, breaking the silence: "Everyone, I just received news that General Li Yunlong is coming to our camp tomorrow to discuss the next joint operation plan."

The officers quickly composed their emotions and turned to business.

……

Among the ordinary soldiers, the discussion about Long Country weapons also gradually changed from simple admiration to more complex reflection.

"Do you think this kind of Long Country weapon is too... excessive?" a young soldier asked cautiously.

"Excessive?" his companion retorted, "When the Di Guo bastards were killing us, they didn't think it was excessive!"

"I know, but..." the young soldier hesitated, "that weapon gives almost no chance of survival. It's not like a Bullet or a shell, from which at least some people can survive. But that cloud of fire... it devoured everything."

"War is meant to eliminate the enemy," another soldier interjected, "is there any difference?"

"The difference lies in... the bottom line." The young soldier struggled to organize his words, "If every country starts developing these weapons of mass destruction, what will happen in the end? Will there come a day when a single button can destroy a city, or a country?"

The surrounding soldiers quieted down, and a look of contemplation appeared on everyone's face.

They had all witnessed the cruelty of war, but the scene they saw today truly exceeded the cognitive range of many people.

"Regardless," a veteran finally broke the silence, "today's Victory is a fact. With the support of the Long Country, we have finally seen hope. Perhaps... perhaps the war will end soon, and we can all go home."

This beautiful wish drew a chorus of agreement, and the brief philosophical reflection on the battlefield was quickly replaced by the joy of Victory.

For most soldiers, being able to defeat the enemy and defend their homeland was the most important thing; as for the moral issues of weapons, that was for generals and politicians to consider.

……

At night, Jin Zhengzhe and Li Yunlong met at the temporary command post to discuss tomorrow's operation plan.

"General Li, we in the Sun Country will forever remember today's Victory," Jin Zhengzhe said sincerely, "Without the support of the Long Country, we could not have achieved such brilliant results."

Li Yunlong waved his hand and laughed: "Don't be so polite; we are allies, and it is only right to fight against the Di Guo aggression together."

He pointed to several key positions on the map: "Tomorrow we should press our advantage and capture these strategic strongholds. The enemy's morale is low now, which is a good opportunity for us to expand our results."

Jin Zhengzhe nodded in agreement, but then hesitated: "General Li, there is a question I have always been curious about... was that Cloud Bomb developed by the Long Country itself? Its principle is..."

Li Yunlong laughed and interrupted him: "Lieutenant Colonel Jin, don't ask about military secrets. I can only tell you that this is indeed a masterpiece of Long Country scientists, and there are even more Advanced weapons currently under development."

Jin Zhengzhe seemed to want to ask something else, but in the end, he just nodded: "Understood. Regardless, with this kind of weapon, the scales of war have already begun to tilt."

"That's right," a sharp light flashed in Li Yunlong's eyes, "The Di Guo people thought they were invincible, and today we have already shattered that myth. Next, we will make them even more terrified!"

The two commanders continued to discuss specific tactical details, but a lingering doubt remained in Jin Zhengzhe's heart:

How did the Long Country, a newly established emerging nation, manage to develop such Advanced weapon systems in such a short time? What kind of secret was behind this?

……

Long Country, General Headquarters.

"What? Annihilated three enemy armored regiments in a single day?" The Frontline Commander-in-Chief looked at the telegram in disbelief, his voice even rising several degrees, "Is this confirmed news?"
