Chapter 249: Electronic Warfare Aircraft, SCR-584 Jian-6E

~7 min read 1,235 words

Li Mingyuan explained patiently: "Simply put, it is using electromagnetic waves to interfere with and deceive the enemy's communication, radar, and navigation systems. On the modern battlefield, information superiority often determines victory or defeat. Whoever can grasp more information while simultaneously interfering with the enemy's information acquisition occupies a decisive advantage."

He drew a massive radar dome on the body of the Jian-6: "The SCR-584 Radar System will be installed here, covering the 200Hz frequency band, and can perform three key tasks simultaneously."

Li Mingyuan held up one finger:

"First, it can detect enemy radar and communication signals, helping us grasp the enemy's movements and deployment situation."

He then held up a second finger:

"Second, it can interfere with the enemy's Radar System, making their air defense network 'blind' and creating safe corridors for our Bombers and fighter jets."

Finally, he held up a third finger:

"Most importantly, it can interfere with the enemy's communication systems, severing their command chain and throwing enemy troops into chaos. Imagine, what would the scene be like if the Di Guo tank units suddenly could not receive orders from headquarters and could not communicate with each other?"

Lao Liu suddenly realized, a mischievous smile appearing on his face:

"Wouldn't those Di Guo fellows be left groping in the dark? The tanks wouldn't know where to fire, the infantry wouldn't know where to walk, and the artillery wouldn't know where to shell... Haha, is it really that wicked?"

Li Mingyuan nodded: "That's right. The power of electronic warfare lies in the fact that it can significantly diminish the enemy's combat capability without firing a single shot. This is more economical and efficient than directly destroying their equipment."

He began to design this special fighter jet in detail, now called the "Jian-6E" (E stands for Electronic).

First is the exterior design.

To accommodate the massive SCR-584 Radar System and related electronic equipment, the fuselage of the Jian-6E is slightly longer than the standard model, and a large pod containing various electronic devices has been added under the belly.

"These devices will increase weight and affect maneuverability," Li Mingyuan explained,

"but the Jian-6E's primary mission is not to dogfight with enemy planes, but to perform electronic reconnaissance and interference missions from a safe distance, so this compromise is acceptable."

Next is the design of the internal systems.

The SCR-584 Radar is the Hexin of this fighter jet; it not only covers the 200Hz frequency band but also possesses frequency scanning and directional emission capabilities, allowing it to precisely identify and lock onto enemy signal sources.

"The working principle of this Radar System is very interesting," Li Mingyuan said, pointing to the key components on the blueprint,

"it can receive signals emitted by enemy radar or communication equipment, analyze their frequency and pattern, and then emit signals of the same frequency but opposite phase to interfere with it. It's a bit like the 'noise cancellation' principle of sound waves; the two waveforms cancel each other out, ultimately leaving the enemy unable to hear or see anything."

Lao Liu nodded, half-understanding:

"In that case, the Jian-6E is like an 'electronic trickster' that can make the enemy's radar and communication systems 'misjudge'?"

"That's right," Li Mingyuan smiled, "In the field of electronic warfare, there is a saying: 'Whoever controls the electromagnetic spectrum controls the battlefield.' The emergence of the Jian-6E will allow us to occupy an absolute advantage in the electromagnetic space."

In addition to the Hexin Radar System, the Jian-6E is also equipped with a set of complex signal analysis devices that can automatically identify different types of enemy signals and generate the best interference plan.

This set of devices is controlled by a dedicated Computer and was named "Electronic Countermeasures Center" by Li Mingyuan.

"The Electronic Countermeasures Center can record and analyze the enemy's radar characteristics and communication patterns to build a detailed 'Electronic Feature Database'," Li Mingyuan explained,

"Once a matching signal is discovered, the system will automatically select the most effective interference method. For example, to deal with enemy Search Radar, one can use 'noise jamming' to fill the radar screen with clutter; to deal with communication systems, one can use 'insertion jamming' to insert false information into the enemy's channels."

Lao Liu listened, dumbfounded:

"Chief Engineer, are you saying that we can not only make the enemy 'blind' but also insert fake orders into their communication channels? Like ordering them to retreat or kill each other?"

Li Mingyuan shook his head with a smile: "Theoretically, it is possible, but in practice, it is not that easy. Enemy communications generally have encryption measures and cannot be cracked simply. However, even just creating interference and making the enemy unable to communicate effectively is enough to greatly reduce their combat efficiency."

Finally, Li Mingyuan designed the weapon system for the Jian-6E.

Unlike the standard model, the Jian-6E removed two 30mm cannons and replaced them with more electronic equipment and jamming shells.

At the same time, it retained two hardpoints that can carry air-to-air Missiles for self-defense.

"The Jian-6E was not designed for air combat,"

"its main role is to create a safe airspace for other fighter jets and Bombers while interfering with the enemy's command system. It should never act alone but should have fighter jets escorting it."

With this, the basic design of the Jian-6E was completed.

Although this fighter jet looks little different from an ordinary Jian-6 on the outside, it is loaded with advanced electronic systems capable of changing the landscape of the battlefield on the inside.

"If everything goes smoothly, the modification work can be completed within two weeks," Li Mingyuan calculated the time, "At the same time, we can begin the preliminary production preparation for the Hong-5."

He looked at the battlefield map on the wall, a light of confidence flashing in his eyes:

"With the Jian-6E and the Hong-5, we will completely control the sky, and the enemy's armored advantage and air defense network will both lose their meaning."

Lao Liu rubbed his sleepy eyes and laughed:

"Chief Engineer, I understand now why those Di Guo fellows are so afraid of you. You aren't just fighting a war; you are playing a grand game of chess. Before the Di Guo fellows have even reacted, you have already checkmated them."

Li Mingyuan shook his head: "Don't be happy too soon. The Di Guo's scientific research strength is very strong. Once they analyze the principles of our weapons, they will soon develop countermeasures. We must maintain innovation and continuously introduce new weapon systems to maintain our technological advantage."

He walked back to the workbench, picked up a pen, and continued to refine the details on the Hong-5 blueprints:

"Now, we need to consider the production of the Hong-5. This type of large aircraft has high requirements for manufacturing processes; we must simplify the design to make it adapt to the existing industrial conditions of the Long Country."

Li Mingyuan began to modify the blueprints, deleting some non-essential complex structures, adding more standardized parts, and reducing the use of special processes as much as possible.

"The key lies in the Engine," he muttered to himself, "The Hong-5 needs two high-thrust Engines, but our current production capacity is limited. Perhaps we can consider using four low-thrust Engines instead..."

He continued to bury himself in his work, his pen moving rapidly across the paper, and a brand-new Bomber design gradually took shape.
