Chapter 412: Directional Antenna Array

~7 min read 1,212 words

Walking out of the conference room, Li Mingyuan took a deep breath. The data on Synthetic Aperture Radar he had seen online in his past life had finally come in handy; this technology, which only truly matured in the seventies, had now been brought to this world by him more than twenty years ahead of time.

"Next, it is time to prepare the Electronic Interference System." He whispered to himself, his mind already beginning to conceive the next "black technology."

The success of the Synthetic Aperture Radar shocked the entire base, and overnight, Li Mingyuan became a "technical magician" in everyone's eyes. But he did not immerse himself in the glory; early the next morning, he locked himself in the laboratory and began a new round of research and development.

"Interference system, the Hexin of electronic warfare." Li Mingyuan wrote this line in his notebook, then began to draw a series of circuit diagrams and antenna designs. In modern warfare, electronic warfare capability often determines victory or defeat, and in the fifties, this field was still in its primary stage.

At lunchtime, Professor Chen from the radio group came to find Li Mingyuan and found a pile of circuit diagrams spread out in front of him.

"A new project?" Professor Chen asked curiously.

Li Mingyuan looked up, his eyes flashing with excitement: "An Electronic Interference System, capable of effectively suppressing enemy Radar and communication systems."

Professor Chen leaned over to look at the drawings and frowned: "This power amplifier circuit... what is the designed output power?"

"5 kilowatts peak, 2 kilowatts continuous." Li Mingyuan answered calmly.

"How much?!" Professor Chen was so shocked he nearly jumped up, "This... is this meant to burn out all receiving equipment? Existing Vacuum Tubes simply cannot withstand this kind of power!"

Li Mingyuan smiled mysteriously: "Who said we were going to use traditional Vacuum Tubes?"

He took a small box out of a drawer and opened it cautiously; inside were several electronic components that looked extremely special.

"This is a high-power amplifier I designed based on a new theory, using a Vacuum Tube array with a special structure, capable of withstanding extremely high power output."

Professor Chen carefully picked up a component and examined it closely: "This cooling structure... and the electrode arrangement... I have never seen this kind of design."

"This is just the beginning," Li Mingyuan said, "I need you to help me assemble a team, the best radio experts and antenna designers; we must complete the assembly and testing of the prototype within one month."

Professor Chen wanted to ask something else, but seeing Li Mingyuan's firm gaze, he finally just nodded: "Alright, I believe you. After all, the Synthetic Aperture Radar has already proven your ability."

In the days that followed, Li Mingyuan led the newly formed team to fight day and night. Their work area was strictly isolated, and only those with special permission could enter. Even the high-level leaders of the base only knew that Li Mingyuan was developing "some kind of electronic equipment," with specific details kept completely confidential.

"High-frequency band transmission circuit assembly complete!"

"Directional antenna array test passed, gain meets design requirements!"

"Modulation and demodulation system joint debugging successful, frequency spectrum coverage meets expectations!"

Every breakthrough by the team made Li Mingyuan more certain: he was about to create an electronic warfare system that was completely ahead of this era.

One month later, in the early morning, Li Mingyuan stood in the center of the test field, in front of him was a strangely shaped piece of equipment—a cabinet filled with electronic components, connected to a set of steerable antenna arrays. This was the result of their days and nights of hard work: the prototype of the Electronic Interference System, codenamed "Storm."

"Prepare for testing!" Li Mingyuan shouted into the walkie-talkie, "All personnel confirm positions!"

Around the test area, dozens of technicians were at their stations, holding various communication devices and monitoring instruments, ready to record the test results.

"Warning! The first full-power test is about to begin; it may affect all radio communications in the area, duration is five minutes!" Li Mingyuan gave one final warning, then began the countdown: "Three, two, one, start!"

He pressed the red button on the console.

The equipment started up, emitting a low humming sound. The antenna array began to rotate, aiming at the designated test area.

Almost instantly, all communication equipment in the test area lost signal. There was only harsh static noise in the walkie-talkies, the needles of the radio receivers swung wildly, and even the encrypted communications on the Military's special channels fell into dead silence.

Li Mingyuan observed the interference effect through the monitoring equipment and nodded with satisfaction. The "Storm" system did not just simply emit high-power noise, but was able to intelligently analyze the characteristics of enemy signals and conduct targeted interference and deception. This technology was simply as advanced as magic in the fifties.

The test lasted for a full five minutes, and when Li Mingyuan finally turned off the equipment, the communication systems in the test area gradually returned to normal.

After a moment of dead silence, enthusiastic applause and cheers erupted.

"It's incredible!"

"It completely blocked all communications!"

"Even the Military's encrypted channels were interfered with!"

Military Representative Colonel Lin walked quickly toward Li Mingyuan, his expression complex: "Chief Engineer Li, this... this is simply the ultimate weapon on the battlefield! If we can equip this on aircraft, the enemy's Anti-aircraft System will be completely ineffective!"

Li Mingyuan smiled: "Not just the Anti-aircraft System, Colonel Lin. The enemy's communications, navigation, Radar... all systems relying on electromagnetic waves will be affected. Moreover, this is just a prototype; there is still a lot of room for power improvement."

Colonel Lin was so excited he was incoherent: "This... this is too amazing! Chief Engineer Li, do you know what this means? In modern warfare, whoever controls the electromagnetic spectrum controls the battlefield! If we can deploy this equipment on a large scale..."

"To be precise, this is a type of Active Defense System." Li Mingyuan added, "We don't need to compete with the Star-Spangled Country or Beijixiong Guo on the number of nuclear bombs, we only need to ensure that we can effectively interfere with their Guidance System."

Colonel Lin widened his eyes, as if he had only just realized this point: "You mean... even if they launch a Missile..."

"A Missile relies on radio navigation and Radar guidance," Li Mingyuan said calmly, "If these systems fail, even the most advanced weapon is just a pile of expensive scrap metal."

This statement caused everyone present to fall into deep thought. In an era where nuclear weapons were developing rapidly, Li Mingyuan provided a brand-new line of thinking—not competing over whose fist was bigger, but finding a way to make the opponent's fist miss.

Minister Zhang was the last to arrive at the test site; he watched the test footage from start to finish, the expression on his face shifting from shock to awe, and finally to deep contemplation.

"Chief Engineer Li, you have changed the rules of the game once again." Minister Zhang finally said, "I will immediately report this breakthrough result to my superiors. But there is one question: is mass production possible?"
